Airfare Sale on Air Canada to Palm Springs

I occasionally get e-mails from Southern Californian readers asking why do I post so many airfare sales from Canada to Palm Springs. But then, when I inform them that we book more room nights year round from Canadians, than we do Californians, they all go "wow we didn't realize that. You're right we always see lots of Canadians at your resort."

Many Southern Californians will pay maybe $5000 for a week in Mexico or the Caribbean, and not always at a nudist resort either (which can cost even more). When you ask them how was your vacation, they all say "all right". When we say why don't you save money and vacation with us like everyone else since you love it here on weekends, we get "Palm Springs is only a weekend getaway for Southern Californians. We can't brag at work if we take a week long Palm Springs vacation."

So here it is, Southern Californians will go vacation to parts of the world where it rains so they can brag about their out of country vacation, yet ignore one of the best nudist resorts in the world in their own back yard.

It is the weirdest phenomenon, the whole world wants to vacation in Palm Springs, and people from around the world fly here, but it is the hardest thing to get a Southern Californian to drive 90 minutes to spend a vacation with us. Go figure...

About 15% of our guests come from Canada. All of our guests love our Canadian guests.
This October ever day we have been averaging about 30-60% Canadians and maybe only 1 or 2 smart Southern Californian guests here. The rest of the guests have been from all over the US, England, South Africa, France, Germany, Sweden, Vietnam, and a few other countries if I check my reservation book.

So this is why I keep posting great Canadian airfare sales.

And here are the details on the Air Canada fall winter airfare sale:

"Fares are valid for travel until January 31, 2010, unless otherwise indicated.
Travel for fares shown is not permitted from December 17, 2009 to January 5, 2010.
Advance purchase and day-of-week restrictions may also apply.
Book by October 28, 2009, unless otherwise indicated."

All nudist resorts are unique especially on occupancy rates

In the textile world people know there are differences between Motel 6's and Ritz Carltons, between nice bed and breakfasts and Best Westerns.

Yet, in the nudist world so many first timers think all places are the same.

It is so untrue.

For instance, here in Palm Springs, we are the place for vacationers. We have guests from around the world stay with us and are busy everyday of the week. Our guests mainly come from all over the US, Canada, England, and Australia. If you enjoy meeting and talking with other nice, fascinating people on a vacation (not just a weekend), we are THE place for you to go to in Palm Springs. When we are full midweek book at a textile hotel and then stay here for day use.

We have discovered with first timers, when we tell them we are full, they almost always ask for the names of other places (which we give). We tell them now they will not be busy like us, so we suggest they come here for day use. We are amazed at how many people figure if we are popular, then that means all nudist places must be busy too. Most first timers don't believe us. When they come to take a tour of our place, they are surprised to see how busy we are.

We have always been the nudist vacation resort of choice in California.

I just came across and article written in a South African newspaper. We probably have 5-8 couples that live in Africa every year vacation with us. Most are South African. The reporter wrote: "In the end, it was midweek and there was almost no one there, except... and his wife [the owners]." To see the article click here

We are always busy midweek. People in South Africa that read that article now probably think no one goes to American nudist resorts midweek, that they are only for locals which is not true. It is too bad that the reporter didn't have a chance to see just how much fun it is to vacation at a truly busy nudist resorts instead of thinking no one goes to them except weekends.

When dealing with the media, I always feel you have to put nudism in a positive light part of which is showing that it is a very popular activity.

When we first opened, we ALWAYS told people when we were slow. Part of the fun of the nudist experience is socializing with other fun naked people. If you are by yourself at a nudist resort, it doesn't seem much different than being in your own back yard. You miss out on the fun experience of social nudism.

For example read the experience that a first time couple at our resort from Louisiana wrote on tripadvisor:
"We look back at the things we talked about before the trip and what we were getting ourselves into and laughed all the way home. We have been to many different places for vacations and have never been somewhere that the staff and vacationers were as nice as they were at the TCI. The People we met there will be the type of people we hope to be friends with for many years to come. We left there feeling rich with new friends from places like Washington, Canada, Arizona, California, S. Dakota, and Colorado." This is the true social nudist experience. This is what we at The Terra Cotta Inn deliver, fun, friendship, and a great nude experience. And that is why we are popular 7 days a week.

Now there are some people that do not like to be around others. We will get calls from people saying they want to stay here when no one else is around, we have to tell them sorry and recommend other places. That is what the hospitality industry is all about, making sure your guest have a great vacation experience, whatever their wants and needs are.

So if you want a fun nudist vacation, where you can meet lots of great guests, then stay at our resort, you will love your experience.

We are the perfect place for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Nudist Organizations you should join in the US

A poll in 2007 from the Roper Organization showed 25% of Americans have gone skinny dipping in mixed company. Earlier this year, the Y Partnership Travel Leisure Monitor showed 10% of Americans were interested in a nude vacation.

That is a lot of Americans who are interested in nude recreation.

There are 2 great organizations that work very hard to promote nudism in the US. They are mainly staffed by hard working volunteers. There is the American Association for Nude Recreation, also known as AANR. They do a fantastic job in promoting nudism as being normal and fun, something for the whole family to enjoy. Their website is http://aanr.com

In my opinion, through AANR's positive public relations programs and messages, especially in the last 10 years, they have shown nude recreation to be wholesome and fun. They are doing a great job making it appear mainstream and normal. We are proud to be a member of this fine organization and have been members since sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's (I forget).

AANR has a legal defense fund. This is very important as many government entities want to take away your rights to enjoy nude recreation. We have donated free room nights to raise money for the AANR legal defense fund and a number of years ago, we donated a free week at our resort as a major fund raiser. I encourage everyone to join AANR and to contribute to their legal defense fund.

The Other major nudist organization in the US is The Naturist Society also know as TNS. Their website is http://naturistsociety.com
We were members since the early 1980's, but no longer.
The Naturist Society does a good job promoting nude recreation and they were the organization that pioneered nude recreation week which is one of the best public relations events showing nudism in a positive light. They also have a legal defense fund. It is here http://www.naturistaction.org/donate/
If you enjoy nude recreation and want to see it flourish in the US, I encourage everyone to join one or both of these fine organizations and contribute to one or both of their legal defense funds.

Gosh, someone wrote about me today

There was a blog post about me today. Gosh, I'm honored.

I guess I have ruffled a few feathers. I did not intend to as I have better things to do in my life than to have to respond to blog posts.

Nudiarst writes: "In a post today, Tom Mulhall claims that I actually agreed with his position on San Onofre based upon a few words he claims I wrote back on July 19 of this year."

He then states: "Pulling a few words out of context is a patently dishonest way to engage in debate. I would hope that Tom would keep this exchange of ideas and positions on a higher level."

This is what I quoted from nudiarst that he wrote on his blog on 7/19/09. I gave him the date yesterday:
"That's why I've said that the NAC should consider abandoning any further lawsuits at San Onofre, and instead seek ways to establish new areas. The California DPR doesn't oversee the entire coast, does it? There has to be several beaches ripe for nude recreation, in jurisdictions that need the revenue.

Sure, the loss of San Onofre is painful, but it doesn't necessarily spell the end of nude beaches in California."

So you can judge if I pulled something out of context, here is his FULL comment:
"I think AANR does have a lot to lose. Certainly the NAC, TNS members, and the Friends of San Onofre Beach are upset at them for undermining their efforts.

AANR has staked its reputation on this deal with the DPR. They have stated quite emphatically that they are not being played for a fool, and if it turns out that the DPR is yanking their chain, they will lose all credibility on the public lands issue.

I think that AANR knows that more free beaches are inevitable, Yes, San Onofre is a setback, but look at what's happening at Key West. Cities and states are desperate for money and there should be a willingness to designate more areas for nude sunbathing and swimming if it can be shown that such a venture can be safe and profitable.

That's why I've said that the NAC should consider abandoning any further lawsuits at San Onofre, and instead seek ways to establish new areas. The California DPR doesn't oversee the entire coast, does it? There has to be several beaches ripe for nude recreation, in jurisdictions that need the revenue.

Sure, the loss of San Onofre is painful, but it doesn't necessarily spell the end of nude beaches in California."

Everyone knows nudiarist does not agree with AANR. That really is real old news and means nothing as far as the Cahill policy being invalidated. What means something is he wrote "NAC should consider abandoning any further lawsuits."

Now once the court of appeals invalidated Cahill, NAC had to take it to the Supreme Court of California in hopes of getting the decision overturned. That was the correct move since the policy was invalidated at the court of appeals level.

I feel the lawsuit was started way to early in the negotiation process.

Later in today's post from nudiarst he writing "Pulling a few words out of context is a patently dishonest way to engage in debate. I would hope that Tom would keep this exchange of ideas and positions on a higher level" is a low blow.

As EVERYONE can see, NOTHING was pulled out of context.

As a matter of fact your whole post
CLICK HERE TO SEE POST was beneath your standards of excellence that you have maintained. At this point in time, I will still say you are the best nudist blogger on the web. I assume you are saddened by the San Onofre results as all nudists are and that is why you lashed out at me, but cheap shots at me does not reflect well on you.

You feel strongly that NAC should have sued, I don't. You got your way, NAC sued and now we all have to live with whatever the results will be with Cahill being invalidated. That is the true injustice here.

Some people think it is romantic, even chivalrous to tilt at windmills. I'm a pragmatist and don't. That is probably where we differ.

Some background info on San Onofre and the Cahill policy

The Metropolitan New-Enterprise which is Los Angeles' daily legal newspaper had an informative article about the San Onofre nude beach case and the Cahill policy today.

Here it is:

Supreme Court Denies Review of Nude Sunbathing Ruling

By STEVEN M. ELLIS, Staff Writer

...The high court on Wednesday declined to review or depublish the appellate court’s ruling that a former policy effectively allowing nude sunbathing at the beach as long as other beachgoers did not complain was never adopted as a regulation, and thus did not have to be formally repealed in order for officials to crack down on the practice.

The Fourth District’s Div. Three in June overturned a writ of mandate that had directed the California State Department of Parks and Recreation to reinstate its “Cahill Policy” pending formal adoption of the department’s plan to begin strict enforcement of its anti-nudity policy in all units of the state park system...

The solution, Cahill said, was that “enforcement of nude sunbathing regulations within the State Park System shall be made only upon the complaint of a private citizen” and that no one should be cited or arrested for violating Sec. 4322 unless efforts to obtain voluntary compliance were unavailing.

The department, however, announced last year that it was repealing the Cahill policy with respect to San Onofre State Beach, which includes a small area, Trail 6, where nude sunbathing has gone on for years. The department said that nearby population growth had increased the number of beachgoers, and there had been complaints regarding nudity, lewd conduct, and sexual harassment of department employees, and that as a result, it would begin strict enforcement of Sec. 4322 after Labor Day...

The case is Naturist Action Committee v. California State Department of Parks and Recreation (2009) 175 Cal.App.4th 1244.

Looks like nude beaches will be OK in California (except San Onofre)

According to the Orange County Register newspaper today, it appears that even with the state Supreme Court striking down the Cahill policy which allowed people to nude sunbathe on certain beaches in California without fear of being cited. That is great news for nudists. Nudist may have lost the use of San Onofre nude beach, but at least it appears at this point in time there will be no enforcement by park rangers where nude sunbathers would be ticketed.

Here's the quote:

"The obliteration of the Cahill Policy essentially means that park rangers no longer need to receive a private citizen complaint before citing someone for nudity at any state beach up and down the California coastline.

Even with the new state-wide ramifications, department officials have said they have no intent of doing proactive enforcement at other traditionally nudist state beaches along the coastline."

For the full story click here

That is such good news for nudists as California has some of the most beautiful nude beaches.

Bloggers nudiarist and academic naturist write about my opinion of the the San Onofre court case

I like http://nudiarist.blogspot.com I think he is the best nudist blogger on the net. Even better than me. I have a lot of respect for him. I don't always agree with him and today, it was obviously vice versa.

Today, nudiarist said I was bashing NAC for disagreeing with their decision to go to court over San Onofre. Yet, the funny thing is Nudiarst agreed with my position back on 7/19/09. He wrote:
"That's why I've said that the NAC should consider abandoning any further lawsuits at San Onofre, and instead seek ways to establish new areas. The California DPR doesn't oversee the entire coast, does it? There has to be several beaches ripe for nude recreation, in jurisdictions that need the revenue.

Sure, the loss of San Onofre is painful, but it doesn't necessarily spell the end of nude beaches in California."

I guess he was bashing NAC too back then? Or he was doing like I was doing, disagreeing with going to court and wanting to work for compromise with CA DPR instead.

Now, I want it to be clear. What I am writing here is MY OWN OPINION. It has nothing to do with any other nudist organizations. I am not a "mouthpiece" for AANR. However when I write things they could be misconstrued as "official" nudist writings. That is why prior to this final court decision, I did not put my disagreement with going to court into writing as I did not want it to be used against nudists by the parks dept.

I never undermined this case and I know of no other nudists that did. In print, nudists supported the lawsuit even if in our hearts many disagreed with it. I for one in this blog supported the Naturists once they decided to sue the California Parks department. For instance, on 7/2/09 I posted the link to a local San Clemente Newspaper for people to vote their support to keep San Onofre nude hoping the results would help their case.

In an e-mail or comment to Nudiarst (I forget which), I invited him to call me to discuss this case as I would NOT put it in writing. Nudiarist nicely e-mailed me back, but we never had the chance to talk.

Anyone can always call me at 800-786-6938. I am happy to talk to them.

In my post earlier today, I wrote "In politics you have to compromise if you want your way. That is normally the best solution as it would have been in this case." Academic Naturist wrote a comment on nudiarsts post today stating, "Tom was on my naughty list the moment he took the AANR job [I am on the AANR WEST board as PR chair]. It was only a matter of time before the brainwashing was complete."

Yet, on a 10/10/09 post he wrote about a women who supports the NRA and is conflicted about flying to the national NRA meeting without her gun. Academic Naturist wrote "The obvious answer is bite the bullet and leave the gun at home, despite her belief that she should be able to take the gun with. She'll have a much bigger impact on the future rights to carry a gun if she goes without it."

Here the obvious answer was bite the bullet, lose San Onofre and work to get other nude beaches in California while maintaining keeping the Cahill policy intact which is the model used throughout the US.

So Academic naturist sure sounds like you agree with compromise which was an option that was offered all nudists concerning San Onofre before the court case.

So once you analyzed what nudiarst and academic naturist have written in the past, they pretty much agree with my position. Thanks guys.

California Supreme Court rejects Naturists lawsuit over Cahill Nude Beach policy

This is a pretty sad day for nudists in America. The Cahill policy that had been in effect for 30 years in California which has allowed nude sunbathing on many California beaches has been found to have been an illegal regulation.

This all started because the California Parks Department wanted to stop nude sunbathing at San Onofre beach.

In earlier negotiatations with the Parks department, Cahill would have stayed in effect at all beaches in California except San Onofre. And room for including more nude beaches was under discussion. This was a good compromise. Nudists would have lost San Onofre to nude sun bathing, but could have gained more beaches.

However, I guess some people do not understand the meaning of hazards of litigation and decided to sue. They put at risk nude sunbathing at ALL beaches in California. That was so obvious in the lawsuit.

Worse, not only was Cahill at risk in California, but Cahill was a model policy used by nudist groups in other states to work on getting legal nude beaches.

I was a past president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and was on the city council finance committee for a 2 year term. In politics you have to compromise if you want your way. That is normally the best solution as it would have been in this case.

I sure hope other nudist groups can work with the California parks department and salvage some safe nude beaches in California.

Here's the story:

"Court rejects nude beach policy

A nude beach advocacy group has lost a bid to the California Supreme Court for reinstatement of an informal state policy of allowing nudity on some state beaches.

The state high court, in an order issued in San Francisco Wednesday and announced today, declined to hear an appeal by the Naturist Action Committee. The action leaves in place a decision in which a Court of Appeal in Santa Ana last summer overturned a 30-year-old state policy of allowing some remote state beaches to be clothing-optional.

Under that policy, the state parks system tolerated nudity at certain beaches unless a citizen complained.

Bay Area state beaches that were allowed to be clothing-optional included Red Rock Beach in Marin County and Gray Whale Cove State Beach in San Mateo County.
But the appeals court said the policy was an illegal "underground regulation" because the California Recreation and Parks Department never completed procedural requirements for public notice and comment.

With the informal policy struck down, beaches are now governed by a state law that bans nudity on all state property....

Stearns said state beach officers will enforce the nudity ban but have "a lot of discretion" as to whether to give a warning, issue a misdemeanor citation or do nothing if they spot nude sunbathing...

The case stemmed from a lawsuit in which the Naturist Action Committee sued the parks department in an effort to block a plan to end nude sunbathing on San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County.
