Virgin America will have nonstop flights from Toronto to LAX and San Francisco

We have a lot of Canadian guests year round at our resort. Although most come from British Columbia and Alberta, we still have a sizable number of guests from Ontario that stay with us.

All of the guests from Ontario say they wish it was easier to fly here. Now Virgin America will be offering 1 nonstop a day from Toronto into LAX.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is 120 miles from Palm Springs. Non rush hour, it is about a 2 1/2 hour drive into Palm Springs. Almost all of our guests from Europe, Australia, and Asia fly into LAX and drive here. I would also estimate about 10% of our American guests (especially those on the east coast) fly into LAX and drive here.

Here's the info:

"VIRGIN AMERICA LAUNCHES 2010 GROWTH PLANS; SUMMER EXPANSION TO ORLANDO, TORONTO
Airline Grows Fleet; Announces New Service to Orlando and Intent to Serve Toronto This Summer

San Francisco – March 18, 2010 – Virgin America today announces network expansion plans that position the new airline for strong growth in 2010 and beyond. Today,...the airline announces its intent to serve Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with daily flights from both LAX and SFO as early as June 2010. Coming on the heels of the Company’s new Department of Transportation-approved ownership structure, Virgin America is poised for major growth in 2010 – with six additional aircraft entering its fleet this year and three additional aircraft scheduled for the first quarter of 2011. By this time next year, the airline’s fleet will have grown by almost one-third.,,...

Also today, Virgin America will file an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) seeking authority to fly from the United States to Canada. If approved, this would become the airline’s first international destination. As set forth in the application, Virgin America, subject to receipt of all operating authority, plans to begin service as early as June 2010..."

We have always found the easier it is for guests to come to Palm Springs, the more often they come. For instance, once V Australia started flying into LAX, our Australian business has really grown.

I will expect our business from Ontario province will start growing even more now.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Facebook's nudity ban includes cute baby pictures

An Australian newspaper reports that some innocent nude baby photos were banned on Facebook's site. Of course the funny thing as the story points out is the F word is used all over Facebook, but show a little too much bare skin and poof the photo is deleted. Facebook obviously prefers vulgarity over nudity.

Here's the story:

Facebook bans nude pics of bubs

...Tobin, aged six weeks, was banned from the social networking site because he bared too much flesh...

Mum Tuscany Attard, 29, posted the semi-nude happy snap of her then three-week-old bub in an album accessible only to friends.

But Facebook last week removed the photo – in which Tobin was wearing his blue singlet but no nappy – and sent Mrs Attard a curt warning over the breach.

"Initially, I didn't know which photograph they were referring to. I was surprised that I could have violated their terms of use," the mother-of-two said.

"I had actually posted this pic accidentally. I almost deleted it but then thought, 'Nah, it's cute', and I left it up there.

"I didn't even consider that I was breaking the rules when I posted it." ...

Mrs Attard is not the only proud mum choosing to share baby photos on social networking sites.

Renee Barnes, 29, who regularly posts photos of her one-year-old daughter Aria to Facebook, said removing the photo was an overreaction.

"I loved Facebook to share my first thoughts and photos of motherhood, but I think it was unnecessary to delete the baby's pic," she said.

Facebook declined interview requests from The Sunday Mail and instead provided an extract from their terms of use, which stated it did not allow photos that contained nudity, drug use, violence or other offensive material on its site.

Please call us if you don't get an e-mail response from Terra Cotta Inn

About once a month, we will get an e-mail from someone asking about availability. I promptly respond and 2 or 3 days later I get the same e-mail asking for info and availability.

Again I will respond and then maybe 1 or 2 more times I get the same e-mail from the potential guest who is now frustrated saying, something like "well if you aren't going to answer our e-mail, I guess you aren't interested in our business."

Many people have their spam filters set very high. I know this from experience with repeat guests who say they don't get our e-mails. It filters out a lot of real e-mails.

If you send us, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa an e-mail and don't see a response in 24 hours, check your spam filters. Also many times if you have a rarely used hotmail, gmail, or yahoo account, you may have accidentally sent your original e-mail using one of those accounts from work instead of a more commonly used e-mail address.

It happens ALL THE TIME, that people blame us for not responding to e-mails. Smart people call us at 800-786-6938 when they don't see a response. And I hear all the time from the people when I tell them I answered their e-mail, "why did I send you an e-mail using that account?"

If you add your phone number to your e-mail, if it comes back to us from a mailbox full account, we can call you. Or when you resend your e-mail, we will know you are having problems receiving our e-mails, and we can call you. repeat guests we can call, new people, obviously, we can't.

We WANT to communicate with you.

I am on vacation this week in Napa and San Francisco. I am answering e-mails on vacation as is our manager at work.

So remember, if you don't see a prompt response, check your spam filters or call us at 800-786-6938.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

A Palm Springs vacation is the destination of the week - They even recommend taking a clothing optional vacation here

Palm Springs is the hot vacation destination of the US this year. Sites all over the internet are telling everyone to take their vacation here. Many sites are even saying one of the reasons to vacation here is because of all the clothing optional resorts in Palm Springs.

Here's the latest recommendation:

"Destination of the Week: Palm Springs, Calif.
Who knew you could indulge your passion for hiking and Mid-Century Modern design all in the same trip? [Tom's note and nude sunbathing].

DESTINATION OF THE WEEK, GREEN TRAVEL

Although Marilyn, Sinatra, Liberace, Dinah and Sonny have long since departed from California’s Coachella Valley, one famous Palm Springs resident is still around and kickin’: Mother Nature.

Palm Springs may be best known for Rat Packers and retirees, architecture and the AARP, golf courses and grannies. However old-school, this sun-drenched — 354 blissful days of sunshine annually — desert oasis isn’t just for older folks (although the patrons of Melvyns may beg to differ). Increasingly, the town has become a hot spot for hedonistic hipsters, Hollywood’s new guard, and those just looking to slow down and soak in truly stunning natural surroundings.

A Mid-Century Modern night’s dream

Whether hiking the Indian Canyons or horseback riding along the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, many visitors to Palm Springs will find themselves communing with Mother Nature a majority of the time … it’s an outdoor recreation kind of town. However, Palm Springs is also a resort town that takes the art of R&R very seriously, so finding the right retro-chic hotel is imperative...

Antique-till-you-drop
For vintage hounds with an eye for Mid-Century Modern style, Palm Springs offers serious antiquing opportunities. On and off of North Palm Canyon Drive, the downtown “strip,” you’ll find stores like the Palm Canyon Galleria, Dazzles, Retrospect and a la MOD where mod 20th century furniture, decorative accessories and art reign supreme. Imagine the set of Mad Men in a consignment shop and you’ve got a good idea of what’s literally in store during a Palm Springs shopping excursion. For stylish secondhand steals that support a good cause, visit one of five Revivals Resale Marts in the Coachella Valley that support the Desert AIDS Project.

Nature boys and girls
With abundant sunshine, minimal rain and breathtaking scenery, nature lovers won’t have a difficult time acclimating to Palm Springs (neither will naturists considering the amount of clothing-optional accommodations in the area). A top destination is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a rotating aerial tramway (the largest in the world) that climbs nearly 6,000 feet from the desert climate of Coachella Valley to the alpine wilderness near the top of San Jacinto Peak in eight and a half minutes. Once on the mountain in Mount San Jacinto State Park, visitors can explore a system of hiking trails and other outdoor activities...

Palm Springs also serves as the ideal starting point for trips further afield to destinations such as the Coachella Valley Preserve, Joshua Tree National Park, and the Salton Sea, a large saline lake/environmental restoration project known for its avian biodiversity, dead tilapia, trailer parks and abandoned buildings. It’s a curious and haunting place to visit that’s particularly jarring after spending time in lush, lovely Palm Springs. And some of most spectacular sights in the Coachella Valley can be viewed from your car (no, not Bob Hope’s former home): the San Gorgonia Pass Wind Farm, where thousands of massive wind turbines dot the natural landscape as far as the eye can see. Like the Salton Sea, it’s a disorienting sight but also a hopeful one leading to reflection on the future of renewable energy.

The future of Palm Springs itself is looking bright despite a reputation for being more gray than green. There’s something for everyone — kitsch-obsessed lounge lizards, eco-conscious hipsters, antiquers, hikers, bikers, golfers, horseback riders, nature photographers and people who don’t like to wear clothes — in a town where Mother Nature, like Mid-Century Modern architecture, never goes out of style."

"I told you it wasn't necessary to buy that new shredder."

Puppies are so lucky that they're so adorable. Even "Jude the shredder" is adorable.

Jude is 12 weeks old today (we estimate as she was a pound puppy.) She had her 3rd round of shots today and decided to celebrate when we got back from the vets by showing us we really don't need a new shredder. She's happily on the job.

When we got her 3 weeks ago, she was 14.7 lbs. She is now 21.0 lbs. She has really grown. She has also lost a few of her baby teeth including a front tooth. She looks so cute when she smiles.

Jude being a black lab mix is extremely friendly. She just LOVES people. Come and meet her at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.

Is nudism for whites only or is it color blind?

There is a very interesting post on the Naturist Review blog Click here to read it He writes, "Is naturism for whites only? When I view images online of naturists, they're mostly caucasian. When I go to nude beaches or resorts, I mainly see caucasians."

Through a lot of history, having a tan was looked down upon as it was a sign that you labored outdoors and were a lower class. Many women used lead or arsenic based cosmetics to bleach their skin white.

In 1903, the connection between suntanning and curing rickets was made official by Niels Finsen who won a Nobel price for his discovery. So the sun was found to be beneficial.

Then in the 1920's it was a combination of Coco Chanel getting accidentally sun burnt and Parisians falling in love with Josephine Baker and her beautiful "caramel colored" skin tone that sunbathing started to become popular with the wealthier leisure class. In the 1940's women's magazines started advertising sunbathing as an activity for the common woman, and sunbathing really took off in popularity.

Now in the '40's, '50's, and '60's there was general discrimination against people of color from baseball, to TV, to modeling, etc. The "mainstream" only used white models. I would assume this discrimination also carried over into nudist publications of that era.

Patty, who is pictured above, has worked for us for 8 years. She has been our manager for the last 3 years. She is a Latina and a great employee and person. And Norma who just started working for us is also a Latina.

We have all races represented at our resort. We have all backgrounds from American whites, Canadians, Europeans, Blacks, Asians, etc.

Yes, white guests predominate, but in the 15 years of being open, I have noticed more and more minorities enjoy nudist resorts and nude recreation. I think as nudism is seen as a more mainstream activity, even more minorities will join in.

Palm Springs Life Magazine picks Terra Cotta Inn as one of the Best hotels in the Palm Springs area

I've been wanting to do a story about how our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa was picked as one of the best boutique hotels in Palm Springs in December but haven't had the chance until now.

In the December issue of our local magazine, Palm Springs Life Magazine, the Best of the Best issue, we were picked as one of the 3 BEST of all boutique hotels in the whole Palm Springs area.

For years, Palm Springs Life Magazine had only 1 category for the BEST hotels and resorts in town. All hotels were lumped together whether you were a 17 room clothing optional resort like ours or a 500 room boring mega chain resort. Naturally, the boring mega chain resorts were always selected.

The local chamber of commerces, hotel association and others kept asking for a 2nd category where smaller hotels could be ranked. Finally in 2009, Palm Springs Life Magazine came up with a boutique hotel category and we were selected #2 of all smaller boutique hotels in the whole Palm Springs area. What is nice is the #1 and #3 hotels are actually small chain hotels with locations all over the US. Both places have Public Relations firms that work very hard to get those places noticed by the press. We truly were the ONLY independent hotel that was honored. And of course we have no PR firm pitching our resort to the press.

I have always said for nude recreation to gain in popularity, you have to be able to compete with regular textile hotels. Since we opened 15 years ago, I didn't want to be just the leader of nudist hotels in Palm Springs, I wanted to be considered the leader of all the small resorts in Palm Springs. And this magazine rating proves we are.

For instance, we were the FIRST of ALL hotels in Palm Springs that invested in a salt water system pool and jacuzzi which feels heavenly on your bare skin. We are still one of only 2 hotels that has invested in a state of the art poolside cooling system so our guests are nice and comfortable in the summer. So while we enjoy a 85-90% occupancy rate in the summer, all other hotels struggle to be busy on weekends, because they haven't invested in the poolside cooling systems.
We were the first small resort to get a spa license to offer massages. And our therapists have consistently been rated some of the best in the area.

We are still the ONLY small resort to serve restaurant grade fruit for breakfast like the larger resorts. It costs from 2-3 times the amount compared to fruit from a Costco or the grocery store, but it is picked ripe so it is fantastic tasting.

And there are lots more things where we are the leader in Palm Springs (for instance we have ALWAYS been considered the BEST VALUE small resort in town), but I won't bore you by naming all of them.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Many women enjoy wearing beach cover ups at clothing optional resorts

Vacationing in the nude is the fastest growing trend in the travel industry. However, many women are still very nervous about vacationing at nudist resorts.

First, everyone should know, ALL nudist resorts are different. They are independently owned. Some like our resort where Norma works, pictured above, are very first timer friendly and very women friendly.

About 90% of our guests had their first topless or nude sunbathing vacation here. Now of course, they are our repeat guests.

Women, are you nervous about your first nude sunbathing experience? Then you will love our resort.

We are one of the few nude sunbathing resorts that let women wear beach wraps, or pareos, or topless bikinis by the pool. You can even wear a topless bikini in the pool or jacuzzi here. We even sell wraps for you to wear.

We find that most women are OK with the idea of topless sunbathing or as it is called European Style sunbathing. Las Vegas even has European pools. Women are nervous about exposing themselves below the belly button. So if you say it is OK to wear a topless bikini or beach wrap, the woman will book. And then when they get here, they see that their fears are for naught. and they feel comfortable nude sunbathing right away.

Many nude places have strict rules where it is mandatory nudity at all times or at the pool. This makes women especially first timers feel very uncomfortable. I'll never understand why so many nudist resorts are so women unfriendly.

If you want to wear a beach wrap, it is OK at the Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs, California.

This is one of the reasons why we are the most popular nude sunbathing resort in the western US and why guests fly here from around the world for their vacations. Of course it helps that Palm Springs has the best nude sunbathing weather in the world.
