Good (and funny) topless article form a female New Zealand reporter about topless sunbathing

I thought this was a very good and a very funny article from a woman reporters point of view about topless sunbathing.

I love Kiwis. We normally average around 4-6 couples a year from New Zealand that vacation with us. They are such fun people.

Here's the story:

"What's wrong with boobs on beaches?

Toplessness on beaches. This topic, which has recently been brought to the fore by a piece on Campbell Live, makes me furious. Not because I am opposed to breasts being flaunted in the fresh air but because the Christchurch weather of late is simply not providing anyone with the opportunity for flesh-baring of any kind.,,

...I never cease to be amazed by the knee-jerk reaction that people have to the very idea, never mind the reality, of breasts being in plain view. It's as if the very presence of mammaries might lead to some great cataclysm or breakdown of the social fabric. Fabric that could be well put to use in a nice high-neck blouse. What if young children see boobs? How might this warp their tiny, impressionable, prone-to-prurience minds? Well, it wouldn't but that never seems to come up in these conversations, does it?

...Having been on beaches in Europe where entire families from the smallest toddler to the most unfortunately wizened grandma were sans top, I can attest that no one was driven to distraction by the sight. People did not run around looting, worshipping the devil, or dry-humping power-poles as a result (the people who did these things were doing so because they were British...on holiday...in Spain). Don't blame the breasts. It wasn't their fault.

...Now, I am quite sure that I'm not the only person who has an opinion on this subject so I encourage you to lay bare your thoughts, if not your chests. If the notion of free-range breasticles bothers you, can you explain why? Are we, as a nation, hopelessly screwed up when it comes to our bodies? If everyone else was doing it too, would you get yours out?"

New Zealand policewoman cites naked cyclists for not wearing helmets

So many times people in a position of power do not use common sense when it comes to nudity. A perfect example is the current director of the California Parks department who does not like nudity so she made nude sunbathing illegal at the popular San Onofre nude beach in California after over 30 years of use.

Here a new Zealand policewoman used common sense when dealing with naked bicyclists. She told them they needed to wear helmets.

Here's the story:

"NZ policewoman allows naked cycling - with helmet

Freedom-seekers in New Zealand must still wear protective gear

Two young men caught cycling with no clothes on have escaped charges of offensive behaviour, but received a warning to wear protective head gear.

Local policewoman Cathy Duder was unfazed when she came across the two nude men, both in their early twenties.

"They were more shocked than I was, trying to cover up their bits and pieces with their hands," she said...

When asked for an explanation, the pair replied that "they wanted to experience total freedom"...

"And I said to them 'the way you're heading, you're going to experience total confinement'," the officer said, laughing...

Ms Duder issued them with a stern warning for not wearing helmets and then sent them directly home...

Public nudity can attract a charge of offensive behaviour in New Zealand, but Ms Duder said she let the two men go free.

"It was dark and there was no-one else around. They were jovial young men who had not intended to cause offence," she said.

If only more public officials and people in power had Ms. Duder's common sense.

Nude beaches - Too much for kids?

A brave district council in New Zealand unanimously voted to approved a nude beach at Kapiti Coast.

Now all the "what about the kids" prudes are coming out of the woodwork.

First there will be signs where the nude beach is located. 10 year old kids don't go to the beach by themselves. They go with their parents. If the parents don't want to go to the nude beach they don't have to. there is plenty of other beaches to go to.

Next, kids love nude beaches. Go to Europe and you will see how much fun they have.

I will bet never once have these prudes ever been to an official nude beach. They are just fear mongers.

Here is the story:

"Beach nudity 'too much for kids'

Kapiti Coast District Council has come under fire for considering allowing nudity on its beaches.

The council regulatory management committee's unanimous endorsement of a staff recommendation to allow nudity along the 45-kilometre coastline - unless nudists' behaviour is deemed offensive or lewd - has brought strong criticism from a family-oriented lobby group and some residents.

Elaine Watson, who has a six-year-old son, said she did not object to restricted nudity areas, which could be avoided.

"I am not too worried about topless sunbathing but full nudity is a bit much for young kids. I would not be happy with them wandering willy-nilly along the beach..."

"The protection of families and the welfare of children has been cast aside in favour of so-called freedom of expression," national director Bob McCoskrie said.

Families stayed clear of nude beaches for a good reason, he said.

"They do not want their children being confronted by naked men and women.

"The rights of nudists to `hang loose' should not be at the expense of families feeling embarrassed or offended.

"It is completely inappropriate for children to be confronted with naked adults walking past or sunbathing."

"...It is clear from our legal advice that bylaws against nakedness are vulnerable in that they breach the Bill of Rights Act and recent case law says merely being naked does not make a person liable of causing an offence," Ms Rowan said.

"Lewd and offensive behaviour is a matter that is more appropriate for the police and they have the powers to act against it..."

"There have been people choosing to sunbathe naked from time to time and we have not received complaints," he said...

It is a refreshing change that in an English speaking country, politicians voted to do the right thing instead of caving in to the right wing extremists.

What is also interesting to note is one of the woman interviewed said she was OK with topless sunbathing. I have always found that once women are comfortable with topless sunbathing, it is only a matter of time before they start to enjoy nude sunbathing. That is why we are one of the few nudist resorts in America that allow women to just topless sunbathe at our resort, because they always end up nude sunbathing by the end of their vacations.

Naturist resort wins top honors in New Zealand

Pretty cool, New Zealand's tourism minister awarded a naturist resort top honors.

Here in California, we have the head of the California Recreation department wasting taxpayer money trying to shut down San Onofre nude beach that has seen nude sunbathing use for over 30 years, and in New Zealand, their governments' tourism department picks a naturist resort as one of the best parks in the country.

What is wrong with this picture?

Here's the story:

"Dress code: casual Nakedness is breaking out all over. Just as two new surveys announce that nudist hols are on the rise, tourism chiefs in New Zealand have awarded one of their top gongs to the Katikati Naturist Park, a let-it-all-hang-out retreat on North Island. The owners, Kevin and Joan Sampson, received the award from the tourism minister as the PM, Helen Clark, looked on. Disappointingly, all were clothed. Did that mean the Sampsons were abandoning their principles? “We do wear clothes sometimes, you know,” Kevin said. “I mean, have you ever tried frying bacon in the nude?”"
