A good resolution for 2009 - Vacation at an American nudist resort only this year

Here is the perfect nude year's resolution for 2009. Vacation only at an American nudist resort this year. Or join a nudist club or AANR.

We always hear from guests "why aren't there more nudist resorts in the US?" They then proceed to tell us how they just got back from spending $5000-$7500 going nude at a place in Mexico or the Caribbean owned by some big corporation and operated by non nudists. Some of these places are so overpriced they charge nudists an extra
$100/night for the "rights" to be on the nude side. And nudists happily pay this surcharge.

The reason there aren't more nude places in the US is American nudists don't support nudist clubs and nudist resorts enough.

Look at Caliente in Florida. They said they had low occupancy and were forced to go swinger because nudists didn't support them.

We are lucky. We have always been considered the best value nudist resort in the US and the only one in the western US that caters to vacationers, so we are doing OK. However, in talking with other owners of nudist resorts and clubs, many are really hurting financially.

So this year, instead of vacationing in Mexico or the Caribbean, vacation at an American nudist resort owned by real nudists who work their butts off to make sure you have a fun, fantastic vacation.

Support the American nudist industry. Don't spend your dollars lining the pockets of nun nudists.

Nudism in the US needs to become more profitable

AANR, the major nudist association in the US has done a fantastic job in the last few years of mainstreaming nudism in America. They have obtained more and better PR than ever before.

Now it is time for nudist resorts to step up and act mainstream. One of the ways is to operate upscale true resorts, not glorified campgrounds and parks calling themselves resorts. Another way is to stop insisting nudist resorts must cater to families with kids. Polls show vacationers take more vacations without kids, so why would they want to go somewhere and listen to noisy children? Thus, many first timers just skip trying nude recreation as they don't want to be naked around kids. That is why our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn does not book families with kids.

The best nudist blog in my opinion is Diary of a nudist. He wrote a good post today:

"I've said time and time again on this blog that if nudism can actually become a thriving capitalist profit cash cow, it will gain more widespread acceptance. Richard Mason, the president of the Florida Naturist Association says it's time for the state of Florida to "grow up" and create more nude beaches, which would create revenue from parking fees and help with state revenue problems...."

I agree 100% that for nudism to grow in the US, it has to flex it's financial muscle. Here in Palm Springs, we have the 2nd highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in town. I have also been told that we are the only established hotel that has increased occupancy this year. This also means that when you visit a city, you should stay at a nudist resort instead of staying at a Holiday Inn, Best Western, etc. You can't complain why there aren't more nudist resorts in the US if you don't stay at them.

Because our resort is so successful, I was elected president of the Palm Springs chamber of commerce a number of years ago. City officials in Palm Springs have a very good opinion of our nudist resort because we bring in so much tax revenue to the town.

Nudist resorts need to upgrade and start acting like businesses instead of hobbies if this industry is to grow.

Nude vacations very popular this summer

10% of Americans want nude vacations this summer according to recent survey

That is a pretty high percent. I know we have received more phone calls, e-mails, and bookings from first timers than ever before. This will probably the best year we have ever had.

Now I know many other nudist resorts have been struggling. Part of the difference is we are the only nudist resort that caters to couples on vacation out west. We are busy 7 days a week, not just being a weekend getaway like everyone else. Thus our guests cancelled their European, Hawaiian, and Caribbean vacations this year and stayed with us as we are the best value nudist resort in the US.

Another part of the survey showed 50% of Americans wanted a beach vacation especially in Florida.

It always cracks me up that people want to go to Florida in the summer or fall. It is the RAINIEST state in the nation and in the summer 3 of the 10 rainiest cities in the US are Miami, Tampa, and Orlando. Florida is best from December until April. After that it is just hot, humid, buggy, and rainy.

However, the tourism marketing machinery hums along fine in Florida convincing people who don't know any better that the rainiest state in the nation is the Sunshine state.

AANR does a great job on pr and sharing their findings with members. This story came from an AANR mass e-mailing. So thank you very much.

Here it is:

"Vacationers are looking for great scenery
Posted: July 6, 2008

A recent survey by the National Leisure Travel Monitor revealed this snapshot of how Americans planned to vacation this summer:

» 70 percent seek beautiful scenery.

» 67 percent desire to go to a place they've never visited.

» 50 percent want a beach experience, particularly in Florida.

» 40 percent want to stay at a hotel with a "casually elegant" atmosphere.

» 33 percent like theme parks.

» 20 percent want to go fishing, gambling or to a spa.

» 10 percent said they'd be interested in a nude recreation experience..."

The story came from Indystar.com on July 6th, 2008
