The story of why there is an Angel on top of the Christmas tree

It's interesting that many "modern" traditions like kissing under mistletoe go back thousands of years. For instance, from about.com: "But what of the history of mistletoe pertaining to kissing under it? ...tracing the history of mistletoe-induced kissing means going back to ancient Scandinavia -- to custom and the Norse myths: "It was also the plant of peace in Scandinavian antiquity. If enemies met by chance beneath it in a forest, they laid down their arms and maintained a truce until the next day." This ancient Scandinavian custom led to the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe..."

Well the story of why there is an angel on top of Christmas trees is even more fascinating. A guest sent me the true story that most people don't know:

"When ten of Santa`s top elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs. Claus announced her Mother was coming, which stressed Santa out even more.

On Christmas eve when Santa went to harness the reindeer, he learned three were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where.

As he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered about.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup eggnog and a double shot of rum. But he discovered the elves had drunk all the rum.

In his frustration, Santa accidentally dropped his cup, and it shattered all over the kitchen floor.

When Santa got the broom, he found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of it and it was worthless.

Just then the doorbell rang. An irritated Santa yanked open the door. There stood a sweet little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

"What do ya want?" glowered Santa.

The angel said very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn`t this a lovely day? I have this beautiful Christmas tree just for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"

And so began the tradition of the little angel sitting on top of the Christmas tree."

Not a lot of people know this. I checked it on snopes so it's got to be true. (Just kidding) Hope you liked the story.
