..I come from a family where modesty was a virtue, and was shocked when I moved to the Netherlands and found an open approach to public nudity. (I once saw a naked man in Amsterdam, riding his bike to work).

I felt outraged and insulted.

“Never, never in my life will I be naked in public,” I told myself. However, since then, some things have changed.

I became a nudist. My current boyfriend happens to be a nudist and on our first holiday he introduced me to the joy of being naked on the beach.

And I rather liked it.

Being naked on the beach gives you the feeling of being free and in union with nature. And it is rather natural, considering that humans only started to wear clothes 72,000 years ago. For more than half of our existence we have been nudists.

What I noticed at the nudist beaches is that people come in all shapes and forms, and rarely do they resemble Kate Moss. However, being natural with nature is not that easy nowadays. It is still a controversial issue. Some regard public nudity as exhibitionism. Others say that nudity sets a bad example for the children. In most states of the US, for a woman to be topless can result in a fine.

Woman are paradoxically bombarded by glossy magazines with pictures which depict thin, beautiful and mostly naked women. Even if you would like to be a nudist, you might avoid going to a nudist beach for the reason that your body doesn’t correspond to the beauty standard.

But curiously enough, what I noticed at the nudist beaches is that people there in all shapes and forms, and rarely do they resemble Kate Moss. It can be indeed a liberating experience, especially if you have some confidence issues.

I started my nudist experience when I considered myself slightly overweight, and it helped me to realize that human body is beautiful as it is. And I certainly recommend everyone try it at least once.

Anti nude beach activists find new way to try to close nude beach - Crocodiles

I admit I would probably put my clothes on and leave a nude beach if I saw a big 6 foot crocodile wandering around. And that is what happened in Australia this week as a croc decided it wanted to go nude sunbathing too at the local nude beach in Darwin.

I bet anti nude beach activist invited that crocodile to vacation there.

Here's the story:

A trap will be set at a small creek in Darwin to catch a crocodile that was seen at the city's nudist beach at the weekend.

The two metre saltwater crocodile was seen yesterday morning by a member of the public and by a ranger at the Casuarina nudist beach...

"It was in the water when they spotted it. It wasn't sunning itself."

He says rangers will set a trap today.

"A small one may rest up there for a little while because there is a little food source there...

Australian council rejects nudist beach

Queensland, Australia council rejects nudist beach

In Queensland, Australia in the town of Townsville, their council rejected a written request from residents asking for a nude beach. The reason given, had "more important" things to do than to worry about their citizens.

Here is the story:

"A QUEENSLAND council has rejected an approach from residents to establish the state's first nudist beach.

Townsville mayor Les Tyrell had received a written request from residents to establish a beach in the north Queensland city.

However, he said the request had been rejected because the council had "more important things to worry about''.

"I indicated to them that we had a whole lot of other priorities on the agenda,'' Mr Tyrell said.

Mr Tyrell said he could not imagine a suitable location in the area for a nudist beach to be established and the council was unlikely to look at the issue in the future.

"Unless there was a large community request for it, we wouldn't consider it."...

It is too bad that the council didn't really spend the time to investigate how positive nude beaches really are. Look at Haulover Beach nude beach. It went from being a filthy eyesore to the most popular beach in Miami.
