Thus, many celebrities mingle with the movie goers.

It is lots of fun. You definately need to take a vacation here in sunny Palm Springs for this fun event.

Here's the lineup:

"Palm Springs International Film Festival announces 2009 lineup

The 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival will screen 210 films from 73 nations Jan. 8-19, it was announced today.

The screenings include 77 premieres — 14 world, 48 U.S. and 16 North American. Also, 50 of the 67 films submitted for Best Foreign Language Film Oscars will be screened.

The festival will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 6 with the annual Awards Gala...

The Joel Hopkins film about a struggling New York jingles writer and a lonely British bureaucrat stars Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, who each received Golden Globe acting nominations in the music or comedy categories.

“Over the course of its first 19 years, this Festival has always celebrated creative expression and embraced a diversity of visions and viewpoints,” said Festival Director Darryl Macdonald. “Happily, we are reaching our 20th anniversary milestone at a time when a new generation of filmmaking talent is making its debut on the world stage, with about one-third of this year’s film selections by first or second-time directors. Just as this year’s line-up brings the promise of new voices to infuse the cinema with a renewal of its creative energy, the Festival itself is undergoing a reincarnation of sorts, with new staff, a fresh sense of purpose where the industry is concerned, and a clear eye to the future of the art form.”...

GALA SCREENINGS:

In addition to the Opening Night Gala, the festival will hold four international galas with special screenings celebrating festival programming showcases, including:
20th Anniversary Gala: “$5 a Day” (U.S.). Marking its U.S. premiere, the film is a tale of a son forced to reunite with his con-artist father during a cross-country odyssey. Directed by Nigel Cole, it stars Christopher Walken, Allesandro Nivolo, Amanda Peet and Sharon Stone.

Gala: “Alien Trespass” (U.S.). A world premiere, directed by R.W. Goodwin and starring Eric McCormack, Jenni Baird, Dan Lauria and Robert Patrick. Set in 1957, a fiery object from space hurtles into a California desert mountaintop. A murderous creature — the Ghota, bent on destroying all life forms on the planet — escapes from the flying saucer. A benevolent alien, Urp, inhabits the body of Ted Lewis (Eric McCormack) — a local astronomer — and with the help of Tammy, a waitress from the local diner, sets out to save mankind.

The Gay!La: “Chef’s Special” (Spain). Directed by Nacho Velilla, a cook ditches dreams of Michelin stardom to manage a small barrio eatery. Javier Cámara, Lola Dueñas, Fernando Terjero and Benjamin Vicuña star.
Closing Night Film: “The Burning Plain” (U.S.). A U.S. premiere and directorial debut of award-winning screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga is the layered story of a self-destructive woman and two intertwined families. The film stars Charlize Theron, Kim Basinger, Jennifer Lawrence and Joaquim de Almeida.

PREMIERES:
The festival will offer 77 premieres of highly anticipated films showcasing the diversity of international cinema...

AWARDS BUZZ:

As part of the Awards Buzz program, a special jury of international film critics will review the 50 Oscar submissions being screened to award the FIPRESCI Award for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, Best Actor and Best Actress.
The FIPRESCI jury will include Peter Keough (U.S.), Lisa Nesselson (France) and Roger Clarke (UK)...

Nude Sunbathing up to 2 hours per day reduces chances of cancer

The President of Italian Dermatology Association says sunbathing up to 2 hours a day reduces cancers and nude sunbathing is even better.

I remember a number of years ago when American dermatologists were saying no sun, it is bad.

In the above picture, Sailor shows you how much fun it is to nude sunbathe at our resort. sailor is a retired seeing eye dog and is Godiva's best friend.

My wife, Mary Clare is a nutritionist educated at the Univ of Illinois. She thought that no sun exposure was crazy as our bodies naturally produce Vitamin D which is a major anti-oxidant from sunshine. Humans evolved over 10's of thousands of years to create Vitamin D. And fortified vitamin D is just not the same as your own natural Vitamin D.

Our bodies evolved over 10's of thousands of years to maximize Vitamin D production. (Of course if you are a creationist, the earth is only 6,000 years old and man co-existed with the dinosaurs. This post is about science, so you can ignore it and go back to hoping that Sarah Palin wins so we get book burnings and creationism exclusively taught in our schools). One of the purposes of an anti-oxidant is to prevent cancer.

Now more and more researchers seems to agree with what nudists already naturally knew. The sun is good for you and protects you from cancer.

Here is the story:

"Sunbathing 'prevents tumours', dermatologist says
Published on the 17-07-2008A leading Italian dermatologist on Wednesday said sunbathing for up to two hours a day could cut the risk of developing certain cancers by up to 50%.

Patrizio Mulas, the president of the Italian Hospital Dermatology Association (Adoi), said people should not be afraid of soaking up rays since exposure to the sun is crucial to the body's generation of Vitamin D.

''The summer is the perfect time to enjoy the benefits of the sun, and sometimes an exaggerated fear of developing skin cancer risks doing more harm than good,'' Mulas said.

''Constant exposure for two hours reduces the risk of developing prostate, breast and colon cancer by up to 50%,'' he claimed.

Mulas explained that Vitamin D deficiency dramatically increases the risk of developing the three types of cancer.

A recent study by Boston University researchers in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology backed his claim that Vitamin D is beneficial for warding off prostrate and breast cancers in particular.

''Vitamin D also protects against infectious, autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases,'' he added.

Mulas said that the body's need for Vitamin D changes with age, and that while 200-400 units suffice for the under-50s, people over 70 require at least 600 units a day.

''A good diet and exposure to the sun, even just ten minutes' walk a day, will provide 400-600 units of Vitamin D, which is sufficient for a healthy young person,'' he said.

An hour of ''total body'' sun is meanwhile beneficial for post-menopausal women to combat osteoporosis and prevent breast and colon cancers, Mulas said.

...Mulas said people who were unable to soak up the sunshine should make sure their diets were rich in Vitamin-D foods such as eggs, butter, liver and fish rich in Omega-3."

Did you notice that the the doctor also recommended total body sun exposure.

San Onofre Nude beach ruling appealed by the state

It looks like the head of the California Parks and Recreation wants to waste more taxpayer money. San Onofre nude beach has been a successfully run nude beach for over 30 years until the new head of the parks department decided no more nudes.

She forced nudists to go to court to enforce the California laws allowing San Onofre to stay open. She violated the law closing down this popular nude beach and lost. Now she wants to waste more taxpayer money appealing the case.

Instead of seeing how successfully run nude beaches like Haulover Beach in Miami and Sandy Hook nude beach are, she is imposing her own prudish ways wanting to Close San Onofre.

The losers are nudists and California taxpayers. It is too bad that we can't make her personally pay for all the state taxpayer money she is wasting on this case.

And America is called the "land of the free?" Not if you want to nude sunbathe on American beaches.

Now if you want to go topless or nude sunbathing, at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Tripadvisor picked us this July as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com
