State of New Jersey wanted to ban Brazilian bikini waxing

I guess someone doesn't like smoothies (that means shaved or waxed pubic hair) in New Jersey. Luckily a few politicians left in the world still have common sense.

Here's the story:


"N.J. scraps plans to ban genital waxing

New Jersey is smoothing out differences over a plan to ban bare-it-all bikini waxing.
The state has decided to reverse course on the proposal after angry salon owners complained about losing business ahead of swimsuit season.

"It was an unnecessary issue," said spa owner Linda Orsuto. "In New Jersey especially, where the government has been picking our pockets for so long, it was like, 'Just stay out of our pants, will you?"'

The state Cosmetology and Hairstyling Board proposed banning so-called "Brazilian" bikini waxing after two women were hospitalized for infections following the procedure.

Consumer Affairs Director David Szuchman effectively killed the plan. In a letter to the board, Szuchman says he won't support the ban, and since his office oversees the board, the ban would never be approved...

No other state is known to explicitly ban the procedure, according to cosmetology experts.

... millions of American women - and some men - choose to have the hair down there ripped away, and a majority of salons in New Jersey offer the procedure for $50 to $60."

Kissing and holding hands can now get you arrested in Dubai

Dubai has been heavily advertising to the west for tourists. Yet, they just took one giant step backwards in appealing to westerners.

Whenever Mary Clare and I go anywhere, we always hold hands. We are very happily married and that is what happy couples do in the west.

In Dubai, simply holding hands can now get you fined and deported. Now I understand that a lot of the rich arab husbands have lots of wives, so they can't possibly hold hands with all of their wives. So I guess the way to not make all the wives feel bad that they aren't shown affection is make it illegal for everyone to be nice to women.

Here's their new guidelines:

"Dubai's new behaviour guidelines

Miniskirts, skimpy shorts and kissing banned

SKIMPY shorts, bikinis and kissing in public could soon be banned in Dubai, say authorities.

The glitzy Gulf city has laid down new behaviour guidelines in the local media in an attempt to tame public behaviour...

Dancing and playing loud music in public will be banned, while couples kissing, holding hands or hugging could face fines or detention.

Miniskirts and skimpy shorts would no longer be tolerated outside hotels, while bikini wearers could be forced off public beaches and only permitted on the fenced-off sands of luxury resorts.

Drinking alcohol outside licensed premises or swearing and displaying rude gestures in public could also be outlawed, the newspaper said.

The report warned, "pants and skirts are to be of an appropriate length" and "clothing cannot be tight or transparent" with visible body parts.

On the beaches "appropriate swimwear, acceptable to the culture of the society and its values" must be worn.

Authorities are hoping the new laws will give police more leeway for fines or arrests in places such as beaches and malls...

Anything more than a "peck on the cheek could offend those around you and even possibly lead to police involvement," the advisory said."

What I like is the statement "acceptable to the culture of the society and its values." I can understand it is their country, so they can be as repressive as they want. But, then when arabs are in the west why don't they act in a way that is acceptable to western society?

The west has freedom of speech. Salman Rushdie wrote a book that arabs didn't like. Instead of not reading it, they ordered his death. Sorry that is not acceptable to western society. As much as democrats don't like the blowhard Rush Limbaugh, they don't declare a fatwa and order his death or Republicans didn't order the death of Congressman Barney Frank, MA because he is openly gay.

Westerners find burkas to be very offensive symbolizes the repression of women in the middle east. Yet, arabs can wear them in the west. Again they don't accept our values.

Westerners believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion and fare trials, yet arabs in England want sharia law which is barbaric, offensive, sexist, and anti gay.

I encourage everyone not to go to Dubai. Thank god ex President Bush did not get away with his wish of selling the management ports in the US to his friends in Dubai.

Happy Birthday Godiva

Happy Birthday Godiva. For those of you who have been to the Terra Cotta Inn, you know that Godiva is our 60 lb, German Shepherd mix spokesdog.

We got her at 8 weeks of age. She is now 14 today.

Godiva has had an interesting life. She was born with ectopic ureters and kidney damage. A vet recommended that we put her down at 8 weeks because she would never live to see her first birthday.

Well Godiva sure showed him!

She is probably one of the most famous spokesdogs around and is definitely the most famous of nudist dogs having been on ABC, NBC, and CBS TV. She has been on the Travel Channel, was filmed for Playboy TV (she is really pretty), and has a lot more press.

Sadly Godiva is now slowing down and is sleeping about 20 hours a day. However she still loves life and enjoys her short walks.

We will have a party with ice cake (her favorite) at 4pm today.

So happy birthday Godiva and many more!

Nudist club holds14th Annual Nude College Olympics in Florida Saturday

A lot of people do not know that the original Olympics held in Greece were performed in the nude.

A Tallahassee nudist club will be holding their own version of the nude Olympics this Saturday March 28th.

Here's the story:

"No shoes, no shirt, no pants, no problem.
This is the deal for nudists headed to the 14th Nude College Greek Athletic Meet on Saturday at the Tallahassee Naturally nudist club in Monticello, near Tallahassee.

"It's a fun thing, to get the feel of being nude," said Paul Levvalley, a spokesman of the event. "You don't have to be a jock." A majority of those attending will probably be first-time nudists, he said.

Both athletes and non-athletes will compete in games based on the ancient Greek Olympics, including javelin throw, discus, long jump and 200-yard dash.

The Olympics will begin at 10 a.m. with registration and practice followed by a demonstration of ancient competition methods at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., competitions will begin...

The event is not clothing-optional; those who attend must be nude. Competitors get in free, while spectators must pay $20 per person or couple.

Poll shows 51% of people have been or want to go to a nude beach

Vacationing at nudist resorts and nude beaches is lots of fun. IT is the fastest growing trend in the travel industry. The media constantly writes positive stories about nudist resorts and nude beaches, especially our clothing optional resort. Happy first day of spring from sunny Palm Springs

The US has been hammered by the cold and snow and rain this year. Everyone is happily welcoming today, officially the first day of spring, March 20th!!!

Year round, Palm Springs is the warmest and sunniest city in the US. Using weather.com's after the fact reporting, here was January's weather this year in Palm Springs:

Palm Springs had 9 days of 80F or above in January. And 16 days at 75F and above. Zero days of rain and only 2 days where we were cloudy. And we were sunny for about 5hours on each of those two "cloudy" days.

Compare this weather to Florida.

Tampa, Florida ONLY had 1 day above 80F in January and ONLY 9 days at 75F or warmer. Also Tampa had 8 cloudy rainy days.

And if you look at Miami, they only had 4 days of 80F or above and 12 days where they had rain and clouds.

Now another thing people always forget, official temperatures are ALWAYS taken in the shade, so in a sunny city like Palm Springs, it always will feel much warmer than it really is compared to a cloudy state like Florida.

The state of Florida, which is the rainiest state in the nation is a major tourism marketing machine. Even though Florida is the rainiest state in the nation, they came up with the marketing slogan, "Sunshine State." This shows if you repeat something often enough, people will actually believe you as many people actually think Florida is the sunniest state in the US.

For instance, in the summer, Tampa, Orlando, and Miami are 3 of the 10 rainiest cities in America, yet millions of people vacation there because of the "Sunshine State" marketing.

Unfortunately, the city of Palm Springs does not have the marketing money that Florida has, so unless you have vacationed in our beautiful city, or read my blog, you will never realize that there really are parts of the US where you can vacation for instance for a month or longer and not have rain at all during your vacation.

Unfortunately something came up with the daughter of the couple that was going to stay here so they had to cancel their whole week long vacation witrh us. Helmets save lives

My condolences to Natasha Richardson's family. If there is one thing everyone should learn from this tragic accident it is the forces of nature don't care if you are rich and/or a celebrity. Nature will always try to get you and win, so it is best to use safety equipment whenever possible. That means life jackets (look at the NFL football players that drowned a few weeks ago), helmets, and seat belts.

A number of years ago, Sonny Bono who was the ex-husband of Cher, past mayor of Palm Springs, and our congressman was skiing down a hill on vacation. He smacked into a tree, was not wearing a helmet and died. In that case I do not know if a helmet would have saved his life.

In Natasha Richardson's case, experts say a helmet probably would have saved her life.

I am living proof that helmets save lives. On my 25th birthday, I was bicycling in Chicago and a speeding car swiped my bike knocking me off. I landed helmet first. I never even had a chance to put my hands down to cushion the blow. It destroyed my helmet and I was scraped up, but I lived. With the big dent that was in the helmet, I am sure the accident would have changed or ended my life.

Back when I was in the accident, I had raced bicycles so I knew the importance of helmets. So even though it was 1979 and not cool then to wear a bike helmet, I wore one. Wherever there is a chance for a head injury, I encourage everyone to wear helmets.

Again, I feel very sorry for Natasha Richardson's accident, but people can learn from her tragic demise and better protect themselves.
