AANR and Vermont Teddy bear Company Team up with the Skinny Dip Bear

AANR, The American Association for Nude Recreation is such a great organization. They have done so much to promote nude recreation in the US. Their latest is they have teamed up with the Vermont Teddy Bear company and created the Official AANR Skinny Dip Bear. Above is a photo.

I salute AANR for selecting the Vermont Teddy Bear company. It is an American company and the teddy bears are made in the USA. They could have gone with some cheaply made bears made in China. Instead they went quality which is what AANR symbolizes. I am proud that they picked and American company to make the bears.

We intend to buy a Skinny Dip bear for Terra Cotta Inn.

Teddy Bears are named after President Teddy Roosevelt. He is one of the more famous skinny dippers in American history. So it is even more fitting that there is a bare Teddy Bear.

And to kick off the AANR Teddy Bear, they have a promotion.

Here is from the AANR Website:

The AANR Skinny-Dip Bear encourages people to participate in this healthy, open, safe and friendly activity, while supporting the important role of AANR to protect their right to skinny-dip in appropriate settings.

Enter our contest by letting us know the most interesting place where you would take this cute, cuddly skinny-dipper. John Tesh says Nakations are the latest travel trend

The words of wisdom that John Tesh's syndicated radio show (over 400 stations) gives is called "Intelligence, Inspiration and Encouragement for Your Life."

Today John Tesh reported on the latest travel trend, Nakations or taking fun vacations at clothing optional and nudist resorts.

What is so cool about this story is John Tesh appeals to middle America. It's mom, apple pie, and John Tesh. And not necessarily in that order of popularity.

John Tesh writes pop and Christian music. He is considered very down to earth and on his radio show he always gives out very valuable and useful advice for living life. His words of wisdom cover many areas like improving your relationships, vacationing, money and finance, workplace, raising families and now nakations.

You can't get more mainstream than John Tesh. And having him talk positively about nakations is phenomenal news. It's just like a couple of years ago having Dear Abby talk positively about vacationing at nudist resorts.

The American Association for Nude Recreation in the last few years has done a fantastic job in mainstreaming nude recreation. Here at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa in sunny Palm Springs, California are very proud to be affiliated with this fine organization and highly recommend everyone to join it. They protect and expand our nudist rights. Go to http://aanr.com for more information about them and about joining them.

From John Tesh's site:

"Nakations Are The Latest Travel Trend

...The new trend is: The “nakation” – which is a fancy word for naked vacation, basically clothing-optional spa, cruise and hotel stays for people who’d rather relax in their birthday suits, and pack only the basics: sunscreen, sunglasses, shoes, hat, and toothbrush.

According to The New York Times, nakations are big business... Nakations rake in $500 million a year – and they’re going upscale. Now there are more 5-star nudist resorts than ever. So, what’s the appeal? Nakation enthusiasts insist it’s not about sex. It’s about being free from the artificial pretenses of society, where everyone is judged by what they wear, what they drive, and what they do. Larry Massa, a retired Navy commander who takes nude vacations with his wife, points out that not wearing clothes is the great equalizer, because you have no idea if someone’s a judge, a doctor, or a mechanic. To make sure every guest is comfortable, many nude vacation resorts turn away single men, or only allow couples....

Before you write off the nakation as gross, weird, or perverted – know this: both Benjamin Franklin and Henry David Thoreau extolled the benefits of nude nature walks – or “air baths,” as they called them. The ancient Greeks did a lot of things in the nude, including playing in the Olympics.

Terra Cotta Inn on CNN Video for Guinness Skinny Dip Record

The Guinness World record skinny dip sponsored by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) was held on Saturday July 10th. Here at The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional resort and spa, in sunny Palm Springs, California our guests had a blast.

We officially had 53 guests participate. We're a 17 room inn on 1 1/4 acres of land. We're very spacious for the amount of rooms we have and our rooms are very large which is one of the reasons why we are the ONLY nudist resort in the west that caters to couples from around the world on vacation.

We didn't want to overcrowd our resort, so we referred well over 60 other couples that called to other nudist resorts so that they would have a chance to set a Guinness record too.

We had TV covering this festive, fun event. I now find the story of the skinny dip at Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs is going viral on TV. We've been on CNN, MSNBC, WGN, ABC, ABC, NBC in Los Angeles, NBC Palm Springs, San Diego TV, ABC Good Morning Phoenix show, Sacramento NBC, home Page on AOL.com, and I'm sure lots, of other places. If you want to e-mail me at tom@sunnyfun.com or leave a comment here as to where you saw the story, I would love to know.

All TV shows that I have seen have treated this as a fun, positive event. Our phones have been ringing like crazy starting Sunday as so many newbies saw the skinny dip video and want to try nude recreation.

If I was wearing a hat, it would go off to AANR for creating the BEST public relations event EVER. Good Job!!!!

I hope someone posts the CNN video on YouTube. I've been too busy to do so myself handling all the calls.

Here's the link to the CNN news broadcast: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/07/11/pkg.skinny.dip.record.kmir

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Leisure Travelers in the US save American taxpayers $950 a year per household in taxes

Every week I normally have a few guests ask me why aren't there more nudist resorts in the US or Canada. One of the answers I tell them is enough nudists do not support our industry. These people never belong to AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation, FCN or TNS.

They never tell their non nudist friends that they like vacationing at nudist resorts.

They may go to nude beaches or a nudsit place for a short weekend, but they go to the Caribbean or Mexico and vacation at non nudist owned naked places. In short, there aren't more nudist resorts in the US and Canada because there isn't enough support for them.

The Terra Cotta Inn is the ONLY nude vacation resort in the western US. Yet, I would bet 90% of our guests do not belong to nudist organizations. If we had to rely just on card carrying nudists we would be pretty empty instead of one of the most popular of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

Now we have been open 15 years. We know many nudist places do not deserve support as they do goofy, non business friendly things. I just read online of one place that had DJ's come to play at their nudist resort for free and then the resort charged the DJ's $10 for parking. Obviously, that really bothered the DJ's as they posted they would never do it again and were mad because they played for free and were charged for parking.

Or a few nude resorts are cheap and won't even let you bring your own bottled water to drink poolside. There are no textile resorts that I have ever known of that are that cheap.

I went looking online to try to find out the impact of tourism in the US. I found this press release put out appropriately enough on April 14th, 2010:

"Spending by Travelers Saves U.S. Taxpayers Hundreds of Dollars on Tax Day
Each American Taxpayer Would Owe $950 More in Taxes This Year without Tax Revenues from Travel Industry

According to the U.S. Travel Association, American taxpayers would have to pay an average of $950 more per household on “tax day” if not for the tax revenues generated by travel and tourism to and within the United States.

“Take a moment to extend some friendly hospitality to the tourists in your city or town today – the money they spend has saved you nearly one thousand dollars in personal taxes this year,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “The leisure or business traveler staying at the nearby hotel, eating at a local restaurant, shopping or visiting a local attraction is keeping your local economy vibrant and putting money in your pocket.”

The money travelers inject into the economy often means more money for civic development, infrastructure and state and local jobs such as teachers, firefighters and police forces. In 2009, travel spending by U.S. and international visitors resulted in more than $111 billion in tax revenue for federal, state and local government. Of that total, $77.3 billion came from leisure travel and $34.2 billion was generated by business travel, including meetings and conventions...

Travel is a $704 billion industry that generates tax revenue and jobs across the country. One in 13 American workers is employed either directly or indirectly by the travel industry. In addition to those directly employed by the industry, millions of Americans are indirectly employed as a result of the business generated by travel..."

Just imagine how much nudism would blossom in the US if people stopped going to non nudist owned naked places in Mexico and the Caribbean.

We probably reinvest into our resort a higher percent of our revenue than any other nudist resort in the US for upgrades and repairs and not increasing our rates. We have not increased rates for 3 years and do not intend to do so next year.

We average a 80% occupancy rate year round. Could you imagine the upgrades we could have if we had a 90% occupancy rate.

So next time you spend money going to an over priced place in Mexico or the Caribbean, where all they care about is your money, just think of what your vacation dollars could be doing to promote nude recreation in the US and Canada.

Support nude recreation. Vacation only at places that are owned by nudists.

Many businesses like nudism need to attract younger customers

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation realizes for nudism to grow, it will have to reach out and attract guests in their 20's and 30's.

Here at Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California we are one of the few nudist resorts that caters to all ages from the 20's to 80's. Because we are a vacation resort and not just a weekend get away like most nudist resorts, we have all age groups come here for their vacations. Plus since we are the best value nudist vacation in the US, it also encourages all ages.

Now I have heard from people that nudism is dying off as some old nudist campgrounds and clubs are closing. That is so untrue. Here in Palm Springs, we still have one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in town. Haulover nude beach is the most popular beach in Florida.

Just like in any industry, consumers vote with their wallets. Those places people don't want to go to struggle and then go out of business. Those places people like, thrive. We still are averaging an 80% repeat guest rate which is one of the highest in the whole travel industry and are the most popular clothing optional vacation resort in Palm Springs and the western US.

Our younger employees like Patty our manager and Norma (both of whom are in their 20's) realize that to attract younger guests, you have to show younger people in your advertising too. They have both allowed us to photograph them to help promote our resort to younger guests.

Now nude recreation is not the only industry that realizes that you have to reach out to younger customers. Just this week in USA Today newspaper on May 12th, there was an article about the Preakness horse race saying how horse racing is falling out of favor with younger people. The title of the article was called "To attract young crowd, ad campaign gets a bit freaky."

The article said the attendance dropped from 100,000 to 78,850 last year and the horse race was not getting younger fans. It said "the Jockey Club and racing have been criticized for many years that their advertising and marketing campaigns are same old, same old, nothing exciting."

The article continues "the other thing we've been criticized for is when we do market, we don't target a younger demographic. In looking at this campaign, we basically wanted to target 21-to-35 year olds. So we had to speak their language." They have "received scant protest - a phone call and two e-mails - saying the campaign is 'too edgy, too risque.'"

The whole idea here is you don't abandon your bread and butter, the baby boomers as 1 out of every 3 Americans above age 21 is a baby boomer. You keep them by excellent customer service. However, you have to start attracting younger people to enjoy nude recreation for the future.

Nudism has to change as customers change if it want to be viable in the future.

AANR's Nakation in a Box is featured on CNN site

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation has realized for more people to enjoy nudism you have to create positive PR. This year they have hit 2 home runs. First with the Guinness Book of records nude skinny dip. Next with the word nakation, meaning taking a naked vacation.

AANR even came up with the concept of a nakation in a box.

CNBC on Friday covered the nakation in a box story in an article is this Holiday gift Stupid or Cool.

Here it is:

"Are These Holiday Gifts Stupid or Cool?

Special to CNBC.com

Is holiday shopping bringing you down? Are you sifting through countless gift ideas trying to find something unique for the person who has everything?

Well, there's a good chance they don't have the stuff on this list!

But buyers beware — there's a fine line between stupid and cool, and this group of products teeters on that edge.

So after scouring the Web to find the most, umm...unique gifts out there, we want you to weigh in and decide...

Nakation in a Box, $74 from the American Association for Nude Recreation

Source: American Association for Nude Recreation
Nakation in a Box

...take a Nakation — a naked vacation — with the help of the American Association for Nude Recreation's Nakation in a Box.

For $74, naked travelers will receive a kit that includes the AANR's North American Guide to Nude Recreation — complete with tips for all you first timers out there — an "I'm on Nakation" towel, temporary tattoos (classy) and sunscreen (ouch!)

$74? That seems pretty steep for a kit that doesn't come with any clothes! But, according to the AANR Web site, it's a small price to pay for "the passport to your best vacation ever."

Nothing says it better than the group's slogan: "Put a little naked in your next vacation — you're going to love it!"

Now you can vote if you think this gift is stupid or cool. Here are the latest results:

CNBC Poll: Tell Us What You Think
Nakation in a Box * 1386 responses

Stupid
74%

Cool
26%
Not a Scientific Survey. Results may not total 100% due to rounding.

For the full article Click here and if you click you can also vote.

What I thought was pretty cool is 26% of people thought cool. That is a big minority.

Good job with the pr, AANR.

It's time you should try a nakation too.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. You really need to try something new, something fun, and different. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

This December, we were selected by readers of Palm Springs Life Magazine in their Best of the Best Reader's Choice issue as one of the top 3 of ALL boutique hotels in Palm Springs. That's really cool that people put us up with the nicest small hotels in town.

World's fastest nudist baby- The Zappos Ad

Last week, I was at a government convention with Carolyn Hawkins the public relations person at AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation. We were discussing how nudism is becoming more mainstream and who it is harder than ever to get good pr for nudism as it is considered pretty normal now by the press.

Nude recreation week no longer is a big deal with the press. Neither is nude concerts.

The big home run in the nudist pr field this year was the Guinness naked skinny dip.

If anyone has any great public relations ideas let me know by e-mailing them to me at tom@sunnyfun.com or drop me a tweet.

Zappos tried using a "nudist" campaign for their shoes and clothes and that just wasn't enough to send it viral on the net.

Here's the story:

"Zappos’ Nudist Viral Campaign: Boon or Bust?

Was the recently completed Zappos viral video campaign an innovative success or a resounding flop? Depends which analyst you ask.

David Halberstam, an eMarketer analyst lauded the campaign, which featured the “World’s Fastest Nudist” running around New York in a fanny pack, for the “captivating videos that worked because people could imagine them being real.”

But Nate Elliott, a Forrester Research analyst, looked at the numbers, calling the campaign “a pretty resounding flop,” because of the low viewer tally. Of the 15 videos in the series, the highest video received only about 23,000 views at YouTube. According to published reports, the entire series received 60,000 YouTube views and 25,000 at the other video sites and blogs where the virals were seeded, including Vimeo, Break.com, Collegehumor.com, Gawker, the Gothamist and the Huffington Post...

The goal of the campaign was to boost visits to the Zappos website, but Manni said he doesn’t have the numbers yet...

“The client asked us to drive traffic to their site for clothing sales, so we developed a viral video campaign and created the world’s fastest nudist, a character the represents the opposite of the offering,” Manni said. “He’s fast, but Zappos is faster than he is and catches him at the end and clothes him.”

He lauded the campaign for its “cute, benign theme, trying to show the nudist on real city streets.” He also praised the low cost look of the videos. They were shot with cell phone and other hand held cameras to create the viral look by Bullet, a production company..."

Nudist Organizations you should join in the US

A poll in 2007 from the Roper Organization showed 25% of Americans have gone skinny dipping in mixed company. Earlier this year, the Y Partnership Travel Leisure Monitor showed 10% of Americans were interested in a nude vacation.

That is a lot of Americans who are interested in nude recreation.

There are 2 great organizations that work very hard to promote nudism in the US. They are mainly staffed by hard working volunteers. There is the American Association for Nude Recreation, also known as AANR. They do a fantastic job in promoting nudism as being normal and fun, something for the whole family to enjoy. Their website is http://aanr.com

In my opinion, through AANR's positive public relations programs and messages, especially in the last 10 years, they have shown nude recreation to be wholesome and fun. They are doing a great job making it appear mainstream and normal. We are proud to be a member of this fine organization and have been members since sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's (I forget).

AANR has a legal defense fund. This is very important as many government entities want to take away your rights to enjoy nude recreation. We have donated free room nights to raise money for the AANR legal defense fund and a number of years ago, we donated a free week at our resort as a major fund raiser. I encourage everyone to join AANR and to contribute to their legal defense fund.

The Other major nudist organization in the US is The Naturist Society also know as TNS. Their website is http://naturistsociety.com
We were members since the early 1980's, but no longer.
The Naturist Society does a good job promoting nude recreation and they were the organization that pioneered nude recreation week which is one of the best public relations events showing nudism in a positive light. They also have a legal defense fund. It is here http://www.naturistaction.org/donate/
If you enjoy nude recreation and want to see it flourish in the US, I encourage everyone to join one or both of these fine organizations and contribute to one or both of their legal defense funds.

Has AANR Become Outdated? Commentary by the AANR President

There are two major nudist organizations in the US. AANR which is the American Association for Nude Recreation and TNS, The Naturist Society.

I am on the AANR West board of directors http://aanrwest.org IMO, AANR in the last 10 years has done more for mainstreaming nude recreation than ever before, and more than any other organization. They have earned the expression the credible voice of nude recreation.

The President of AANR just wrote an article for Pasco Naturally newspaper. Here it is reprinted from AANR's blog:

"For the second time in 15 months, the AANR Board of Trustees voted to suspend the charter of a major club in Florida. The particulars were different, but both centered on the board’s feelings that the marketing practices of the clubs were contrary to our principles and standards related to sexual exploitation of the human body. In 2008, the issue was Caliente which invited swinger groups to sponsor “theme nights” at the resort and planned to sponsor a booth at “Swingfest.” This year it was Paradise Lakes which scheduled a “Miss G String” contest with non-nudist models and planned to air the event on the Playboy Channel under the theme “69 sexy things to do before you die.”

The AANR ruling documents provide that “A charter may be temporarily suspended by the President if charges are filed by the pertinent regional division or the suspension is approved by the board of trustees; such suspension to be effective until the next in-person meeting of the board of trustees.” Suspension is not a finding of guilt. It gives the association time to complete further investigation and gives club management time to develop an appeal before the charter is revoked. In both cases, club management decided to withdraw from AANR before the process could be completed.

Management of both clubs told me that economics were the reason for their decisions. They claim that traditional nudists do not spend the dollars on room rentals, meals and drinks that are necessary for the resort to be profitable. They need to reach another audience with the propensity to spend more money. I understand the problem. AANR, itself, has experienced a drop in membership as have nearly all membership organizations. As we manage our organizations, we need to adapt and do things differently in order to survive. However, we also need to step back and remember what we stand for.

In the past several years, AANR has been very successful in changing public perception about nude recreation. Major media outlets have featured nude recreation as a legitimate recreational choice. AANR has also been very successful in changing the viewpoint of elected officials and government agencies. We have differentiated ourselves from the adult business industry. We are being recognized as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation. The affiliation with AANR has enabled many clubs to get building permits, liquor licenses, and sometimes to be allowed to exist. That public trust cannot be jeopardized.

This past summer, AANR sponsored The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip. Club owners and beach organizers reported that many people participated who had never before been nude in mixed company. The press reports were the greatest we have ever seen for an event. Clubs signed up new members. The event portrayed wholesome family nude recreation. No one confused it with a strip show or a swinger convention. The event told me that, with focused marketing, our resorts and AANR can grow in membership without a sexual tone.

One of the resort owners told me that “the only thing acceptable to AANR is sitting on a log watching a campfire.” I think that most AANR members would disagree with that assessment. Times have certainly changed from the 1950s when I became involved as a child. We have more tolerance. But, most of us see that there is a line which should not be crossed if we are to be true to our brand and to the promises we gave to public officials. The AANR plaque on the wall of a club or participating business needs to stand for something. Sometimes we need to take a stand to enforce that.

I am sorry to lose two clubs with wonderful facilities which have provided a destination resort for many AANR members and potential members. My wife and I have visited both many times. I also feel for the members who have invested thousands of dollars to buy a condominium in a resort that has changed its image. My personal hope is that the management of these resorts re-examine their marketing strategy and agree to uphold the principles and standards of AANR.

After years of fighting for our right to exist, it’s a bit strange to hear from a club owner that we may be “outdated.” We walk a tough line between ultra-conservatives who would outlaw our clubs and the adult industry which wants to piggy-back on our success in bringing public acceptance. We know our niche and what it takes to protect our brand. And, we draw the line."

One of the most important sentences in this post is "Management of both clubs told me that economics were the reason for their decisions. They claim that traditional nudists do not spend the dollars on room rentals, meals and drinks that are necessary for the resort to be profitable."

Nudists only have themselves to blame for losing both Paradise Lakes and Caliente resort to becoming swinger and sexual oriented clubs. Every time a nudist vacationed in the Caribbean or Mexico at a non nudist owned naked place, it took money away from the real American nudist clubs. I bet, less than 20% of our business at Terra Cotta Inn comes from AANR and TNS members. Further I have found most AANR & TNS members only want to stay at our resort on weekends and go to the non nudist owned places in the Caribbean and Mexico for a week.

Nudists, if you want nice places in the US, WAKE UP!!! You have to vacation at them. STOP going to naked places in Mexico and the Caribbean that laugh in your face charging you sometimes over $100 a night more to stay on the "nude" side. Stop going to these places where to eat nude you have a hamburger shack, and the prude side has all the nice meal options. Otherwise, some day you will wake up and say, where did all the nice nudist resorts in the USA go? It's happening already.

AANR does a great job in supporting nudist rights in the US. You should also support them by belonging to this fine organization.

Now if you want to take a fun vacation, give us a call at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time. You don't even have to be a nudist to vacation with us.

Nude Recreation is Fun writes Chris Elliott

Erich Schuttauf, the executive director of AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation is featured in an interview with Chris Elliott. Chris writes for National Geographic Traveller and MSNBC.com. He is a very influential travel writer.

Earlier this week I wrote that nudists need to get across the point that nude recreation and nudism is fun.

So what's the headline of this article? "Nude Recreation is fun."

Now as much as I would like to take some credit for it, Erich Schuttauf is a very savvy director. He also preaches that nude recreation is fun.

Way to go Erich. You make me and ll other AANR members proud!

Here's the story:

“Nude recreation is fun”

Erich Schuttauf is the executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation, a group that represents clothing-optional resorts. There’s been a lot of talk about nudism in the travel world lately, from two highly-publicized incidents this summer in which disruptive airline passengers disrobed, to the group’s efforts to coin a new term: the “nakation.” That’s right, folks. AANR has trademarked the word. Do nudists have an image problem? I asked Schuttauf...

[Chris]While we’re on the subject of image, I wanted to ask you about Paradise Lakes Resort in Florida, which withdrew from your association after being temporarily suspended for violating what have been termed “family-friendly” principles. Do nudists have an image to uphold, and if so, what is it?

[Erich] Behavior within the nudist community should require no apology. We have earned a reputation as the credible voice of reason for family social nude recreation since 1931 and take that reputation very seriously.

[Chris]Section 1.4 of the AANR procedure manual says “it is important that we maintain the highest standards of courtesy, dignity, and personal integrity.” Call me a prude, but I think there are a lot of Americans who think the words “nudism” and “dignity” — let alone “personal integrity” don’t belong in the same sentence. Am I missing something?

[Erich] Those who have not given nude recreation a try are definitely missing out on something: the level of body acceptance and personal comfort that comes with allowing yourself and others to be who you are. We often say it but a visitor to a nudist club doesn’t know a bank president from a bus driver. Likewise, those with scars or a few pounds to lose find self-confidence. Its about body acceptance rather than bodies...

[Chris] The latest Y Partnership 2009 National Leisure Travel Monitor finds that interest in nude recreation slipped from 11 percent in 2008 to 10 percent this year. In the interests of full disclosure, I should also mention the Y Partnership is your public relations firm. Are you concerned that your popularity has peaked?

[Erich]Reviewing the entire study the traveling public’s interest in virtually all activities has dropped a little bit. I attribute this to the fact there are even more and more choices of things to do. And, relative to many widely popular activities, nude recreation is doing very well. [Tom's note. Chris, get real, it's the worst recession since the great depression. That's fantastic numbers.]

[Chris] Speaking of your PR firm, I understand it coined the term “nakation.” That’s very clever. What do you think of that term?

[Erich] A nakation is a vacation you will want to brag to friends about. I love the term chiefly because it’s so much fun. Anyone who has ever gone skinny-dipping or as a kid romped through the back yard sprinkler in their birthday suit knows. Nude recreation is fun.

[Chris]I can’t help but notice surveys like TripAdvisor’s “5 naked events and top 5 nude beaches,” which, if you don’t mind me saying so, seem a little exploitative. Come to think of it, there are some who will think this interview is just a shameless attempt to attract visitors. Where do you cross the line between legitimate journalism and a titillating ratings grab?

{Erich] We’re more than willing to have a little bit of fun in the media if it means having an opportunity to let others know about where they can experience the joys of going clothes-free. For example, in July we convinced members and first-time visitors alike to give swimming in the buff a try as we set a Guinness World Record for the most number of people simultaneously skinny dipping. We’re talking about 13,648 people in more than 100 locations throughout North America shedding clothes.

On the other hand the importance of maintaining credibility means that we’re committed to striking a balance. Nude recreation is a lot of fun to experience and to talk about, but only if we can be a good neighbor as we do so..."

This is a great article. Erich talks about the wholesomeness of nudism. He talks about the body acceptance and confidence building of nudism. But, he also talks about the FUN. And that is what Chris Elliott picked up on is the FUN.

Way to go Erich and Chris. A great interview!

Great post about nude vacations

I just came across this post. Erich Schuttauf, who is the best director that AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation has ever had, is quoted in this post.

Now I am the PR chair for AANR West http://aanrwest.org This is a great link to learn all about nude recreation in the western US so click on it.

Some would say I am biased. Yet, I have seen good and bad directors of AANR and with no bias what so ever, Erich is THE BEST!

Now I do not say this lightly, as the previous director, did nothing to advance the acceptance of nude recreation. Erich is a breathe of fresh air and has done more to promote positive nude recreation than anyone I know except for maybe Godiva.

Here's the post:

"CNN) — “There’s something about being naked that makes a person forget a layoff, pay cut or a shrunken retirement account.

At least that’s how the promoters of nude travel see it.

The economic recession is “doing us a lot of favors, maybe because there’s the idea that if you’ve lost the shirt off your back, you should go nude,” said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation.

He added: “You go to a [nudist resort] and when you take off all your clothes, all the cues that tie you to the workaday world — the ties, the suits and everything — when that’s gone, your body says it’s time to relax. You get in that mode faster.”

While some nude-resort owners say they’re cutting back because of the recession, others said they’re on par with last year’s budgets or are expanding their services. Overall, being naked brings in big bucks. According to Schuttauf, the industry is valued at more than $400 million..”

Skinny Dip numbers are in for the Guinness World Record

The official number of skinny dippers for the Guinness World Record skinny dip was 13648. AANR which is the American Association for Nude Recreation just came out with the numbers.

This will be the new number to beat next year.

We had 41 people skinny dip at noon on July 11th at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn. We were maxed out at that number as we did not want to overcrowd our resort by packing people in. And our guests appreciated that.

The skinny did was held simultaneously all across the US and Canada.

I am sure it will be bigger next year.

This was fantastic PR to promote nude recreation. We turned away 100's of first timers who thought it was the coolest thing. Unfortunately, it wouldn not have been fair to pack our resort with people just for the event.

We have had so many first timers book this summer. And this event is one of the reasons.

If you want to go skinny dipping, we are the perfect place. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

I was elected to the AANR West Board of Directors

I am writing this from the beautiful Laguna Del Sol nudist resort up by Sacramento, CA. They are located in Wilton. I brought my camera here but forgot the USB to download photos, so you will have to wait until I get back and can post photos.

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation is the best nudist organization in the US. We have proudly been members for well over 20 years.

They have regional boards. Obviously since Terra Cotta Inn is located in California, we are in the western region. It is called AANR- West Their website is http://aanrwest.com

They had an election by the membership for board members and I got elected to the board. Woo Hoo look out textile world.

Obviously, my area of expertise is marketing and PR, so I will be on that committee.

If people have questions about AANR, feel free calling me at 800-786-6938.

If you want me to bring something up to the board, let me know.

The board meets 4 times a year.

I am very happy to be elected to this position of trust for nudists. I won't let you down.

Skin is In - Happy National Nude Day July 14th, 2009

Nude Recreation Week is coming to a close. It has been a great week as far as positive PR for nude recreation.

The American Association for Nude Recreation has done a fantastic job in positively promoting the joys of skinny dipping. Their idea for the Guinness World Record in North America for skinny dipping was brilliant.

National Nude Day reminds everyone who much fun you can have enjoying life in the nude.

If you work at home, work in the nude tomorrow. If you have to wear clothes then skinny dip in your back yard if you have a pool. If you don't have access to a pool, relax in your home in the nude when you get off of work. Go to sleep in the nude.

The human body is a wonderful thing. People need to realize that there is nothing to be ashamed of by not wearing clothes. In Europe, most beaches are topless and many are nude. Slowly the US is catching up to Europe in realizing Nude does not have to mean Lewd.

So enjoy life Au Naturel Tomorrow.
