Labor Day News- Only 57% of Americans are taking all of their earned vacation days off of work - Time for a Nakation

ABCnews reported that Americans are not taking enough vacation time off of work. They report that although Americans just about have the least amount of vacation time in the whole world, just 13 days compared to for example Italy with 42 days off, Spain 40, France with 37 days and Germany with 35, only 57% of Americans are taking all of their vacation days off of work.

The article states the reason American's don't take more vacation time off of work is they are afraid of losing their jobs.

But, if you read articles about Americans not having much vacation time, you will see 10 years ago experts were saying the same thing people are afraid for their jobs, I say it's a different reason Americans don't take more vacation time. It's because they haven't taken a nakation yet.

What's a nakation? It's a trade marked word from the American Association for Nude Recreation. It's a play on the words naked and vacation. Thus nakation.

The French, Italians, Germans, and Spanish all LOVE to take vacations at nudist resorts and nude beaches. They can't wait for their naked vacations. It is estimated that 1 in 3 Germans vacation at a nudist resort or nude beach each year.

And I know all American nude vacationers love their nude vacations too. They can't wait to go to their favorite nudist resorts or try new nude places. They all wish they had more vacation time off of work.

And nudist resort vacation in America are a fantastic value as MSNBC reported last November.

I say Americans don't take their full vacation time off of work because they're bored with their present vacations where they have to wear clothes. They're tired of big impersonal overpriced chain hotels, where they just sit around poolside being charged $10 to $15 for a weak cocktail or cheap glass of wine. If you go to one of these big boring chain hotels all you see poolside is everyone on their blackberries. You don't see lots of smiles or hear laughter except for the little kids running around screaming at the top of their lungs. Adults aren't having fun so they just don't use all their vacation time.

In a recent survey Career Builders found 79% of people spent considerable about of time on their pda's while on vacation (the other 21% must have been at a nude beach or nudist resort).

So, in my opinion, the reason Americans don't use all their vacation time is they've find many vacations boring and big hotels overpriced, so they just don't go. And they don't want to hang out at home because then they have to clean the garage, basement, attic, etc. So they just work.

Here's the story from ABCnews:

Americans Afraid to Take Full Vacations
Many Workers Worry About Losing Jobs in Bad Economy, Leaving Vacation Days Unused

...These days Americans are taking shorter trips -- mostly extended weekends -- and leaving a large chunk of their paid vacation days unused.

Americans already have fewer paid vacation days than their European counterparts, but now comes news that only 57 percent of people here are taking all of their vacation time.

"People are fearful for their jobs. They want to stay there and work but they also need the money," said John Wright, a senior vice president at the research firm Ipsos. "They don't want to miss out on anything at work because they don't want to fall behind or lose their job or something like that."...

Italy has the most vacation days, with the average worker there getting 42 paid days off, according to the World Tourism Organization. Next was France with 37 days, Germany with 35, Brazil at 34, the United Kingdom at 28, Canada with 26 and Korea and Japan both with 25. The United States was near the bottom of the list with the average worker getting 13 days off.

But even with those 13 days off, only 57 percent of Americans take them all. Eighty-nine percent of the French use all of their days off.

Kathleen E. Christensen, the founder of the Workplace, Work Force and Working Families program at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and author of the book "Workplace Flexibility: Realigning 20th-Century Jobs for a 21st-Century Workforce," says a lot of this is cultural...

"Certainly the United States economy has been suffering over the last several years. People are afraid of losing their jobs," she said. "There's the old adage: out of sight, out of mind."...

"I think people have to be not too short sighted when it comes to vacation," she said. People do have to take a break. People are typically more effective if they are more engaged in their work."

Wright noted that younger workers in America are more likely to use their full time off than older ones. And how about the boss? They are more likely to have plenty of days leftover at the end of the year."

Use of the word Nakations is becoming a world wide phenomena

In Australia, on the Australian yahoo site, au.yahoo.com in their Total Travel section, au.yahoo.com just had a story about Australian nude beaches and nakations.

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation http://aanr.com has done a fantastic job in promoting the word nakations and in mainstreaming the concept of nude recreation around the world.

Here's the Australian yahoo story:

"Top Aussie Nudist Beaches

Aussie nakation destinations

Those who do bare all on a regular basis proclaim it is a very addictive and liberating experience. If you've ever dreamed of an all-over tan, look no further for all the top clothing optional 'free' beaches all over Australia."

The above photo is of Maslin Beach in Australia.

"Maslin Beach, Adelaide, SA

Australia's first official nude beach

Declared a legal nudist beach in 1975, Maslin Beach is also one of the prettiest beaches in South Australia, surrounded by high cliff walls. The southern end of the beach is the nudist area, and each year this area is host to the Maslin Beach Olympics, with informal competitions including three-legged races and best bum!

Nudist Resorts vacations gaining in popularity

In August, 2010, USA Today newspaper reported "staycations are so 2009. It's nakations in 2010." KTLA - TV, Los Angeles in a recent poll of 2500 people asked, "Do you think women should be allowed to go topless on California Beaches?" 63.1% of people said YES!

Tripadvisor.com recently reported the results of a poll of 22,000 Americans. The results were 48% of Americans would be willing to bare all on a nude beach, up from 31% last year.

In a recent CNBC.com poll of 10,000 people, they were asked, "Would you want to go on a naked vacation?" 52% responded YES!

Why the sudden popularity? Are Americans finally shedding our puritanical past and becoming more accepting of nudity just like Europeans have for the last 50 years?

There are a number of reasons for the sudden popularity of nakations

One big reason is the economy. Americans are finally tired of overpaying for boring, big box, chain hotel vacations. They're working harder than ever. They want to make every vacation day count. People want new, fun, vacation experiences and nakations are the perfect vacation answer.

"A few years ago, bragging to your friends that you spent over $500 a night at some impersonal, nothing special hotel chain was OK," says Mary Clare Mulhall who together with her husband Tom own the very popular Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa in Sunny Palm Springs, California. Their resort site is http://sunnyfun.com

"But, not any more. Good value vacations are the new luxury. And when you can stay at an affordably luxurious resort like ours, you'll decide that birthday suits are the only thing you'll want to wear from now on for your vacations."

Recently MSNBC TV reported that Terra Cotta Inn is one of the best value nudist resorts in America. And in December, 2009 Palm Springs Life Magazine in their annual Best of the Best issue picked Terra Cotta Inn as one of the 3 best of all small resorts in the whole Palm Springs area. One of the major reasons is because the guests have so much fun.

Erich Schuttauf, the Executive Director of the American Association for Nude Recreation, http://aanr.com the largest organization dedicated to helping people learn all about the fun they're missing out on by not taking nakations, told USA Today. "all you'll need for the week (sunscreen, cap, sunglasses, shoes, and toiletries) can fit in a small carry on that will fit under the seat, avoiding even carry on bag fees."

Finally, vacations at nudist resorts are simply fun. Jennifer and her husband Scott, first time nude sunbathers at Terra Cotta Inn resort in Palm Springs, summed up why she and her husband decided to take their first nakation this summer.

"It's so romantic. The kids are with the grandparents. The sun, the water, my bare skin. It's hard to describe the feeling of freedom. Being naked with others is such a unique, special feeling. I feel so alive. I love it. We've been to Mexico and the Caribbean, been there, done that. Boring and way overpriced. Here, we've been at Terra Cotta only 2 days and already made plans to come back next year with 3 other couples we've become friends with. We've already exchanged e-mail addresses.

I was so nervous coming, but in only 15 minutes, Scott and I looked at each other and said "this is so cool. We should've done this years ago.'"

As CBS TV said, "Nudity is Taking Off."

Make this the year to finally say goodbye to your funny tan lines forever. Give the Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California a call at 1-800-786-6938 for more information. 2010 is the year of the nakation.

John Tesh says Nakations are the latest travel trend

The words of wisdom that John Tesh's syndicated radio show (over 400 stations) gives is called "Intelligence, Inspiration and Encouragement for Your Life."

Today John Tesh reported on the latest travel trend, Nakations or taking fun vacations at clothing optional and nudist resorts.

What is so cool about this story is John Tesh appeals to middle America. It's mom, apple pie, and John Tesh. And not necessarily in that order of popularity.

John Tesh writes pop and Christian music. He is considered very down to earth and on his radio show he always gives out very valuable and useful advice for living life. His words of wisdom cover many areas like improving your relationships, vacationing, money and finance, workplace, raising families and now nakations.

You can't get more mainstream than John Tesh. And having him talk positively about nakations is phenomenal news. It's just like a couple of years ago having Dear Abby talk positively about vacationing at nudist resorts.

The American Association for Nude Recreation in the last few years has done a fantastic job in mainstreaming nude recreation. Here at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa in sunny Palm Springs, California are very proud to be affiliated with this fine organization and highly recommend everyone to join it. They protect and expand our nudist rights. Go to http://aanr.com for more information about them and about joining them.

From John Tesh's site:

"Nakations Are The Latest Travel Trend

...The new trend is: The “nakation” – which is a fancy word for naked vacation, basically clothing-optional spa, cruise and hotel stays for people who’d rather relax in their birthday suits, and pack only the basics: sunscreen, sunglasses, shoes, hat, and toothbrush.

According to The New York Times, nakations are big business... Nakations rake in $500 million a year – and they’re going upscale. Now there are more 5-star nudist resorts than ever. So, what’s the appeal? Nakation enthusiasts insist it’s not about sex. It’s about being free from the artificial pretenses of society, where everyone is judged by what they wear, what they drive, and what they do. Larry Massa, a retired Navy commander who takes nude vacations with his wife, points out that not wearing clothes is the great equalizer, because you have no idea if someone’s a judge, a doctor, or a mechanic. To make sure every guest is comfortable, many nude vacation resorts turn away single men, or only allow couples....

Before you write off the nakation as gross, weird, or perverted – know this: both Benjamin Franklin and Henry David Thoreau extolled the benefits of nude nature walks – or “air baths,” as they called them. The ancient Greeks did a lot of things in the nude, including playing in the Olympics.

Vote in CNBC Poll- Would you want to go on a naked vacation

Trip advisor this week came out with survey results saying 48% of people want to try a nude vacation.

Now CNBC has a similiar survey that just came out yesterday saying "Would you go on a naked vacation." It's part of their story titled:

Breaking Nudes: Naked Vacations Are Becoming More Popular

CLICK HERE FOR THE STORY AND TO VOTE

It is important for nudists to vote. This information will be used by AANR and I assume TNS government affairs teams in showing our legislators the popularity of nude recreation in the US.

As an interesting note, tripadvisor also had a story less than 2 years ago about he 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world. They picked 2 places in the US. We were the ONLY clothing optional resort that caters to couples on vacations in the US that they selected. That was pretty cool. We are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

So please take the time and vote.

Thanks you,

Interesting article on why Getting Naked is good for your Brain

"Get Naked: It’s Good for Your Brain

Okay, buck naked? I am. Fun. Toes wiggle in the shag carpet. Butt cheeks stick to the chair. Nipples goose-bump. We’re natural... nudists! Our huge organs (skin) tingle with sensual data that’s zipped to our thrilled brains. We feel... wild, healthy, alert, spunky. Alive.

Clothing is crushing us! Trapped in tomb-like textiles, we exile our flesh from experiencing the environment. We atrophy the majority of our epidermis...

History reveals many cultures that were not clothes-minded. Spartans were basically bare and their victories in pan-Hellenic sports competitions enticed all neighboring Greeks to exercise nude, creating the word “gymnasium” (Greek gymnos = naked). Romans mingled in magnificent bathhouses, enjoying dense communal nudity as they drank, dined, defecated, bathed, read books, argued politics, and watched theater. Adamists — naked heretics — performed stripped-down church services in North Africa, Bohemia, the Netherlands, and England. Pre-Hitler Germans were avid adherents of Freikorperkultur (“Free Body Culture”) with 70,000 attending co-ed Nacktkultur schools. There’s naked Japanese in hot springs, naked Finns in saunas, “sky-clad” Jain monks in India, plus millions of nudists worldwide going to “Nakation” camps, beaches, and resorts...

Many famous figures are bare-all aficionados; too many politicians to name, so I’ll just list sci-fi and scientists: Leonard Nimoy, Alexander Graham Bell, Robert Heinlein, and seismologist Charles Richter. Of course, most movie stars skinny-dip at the French Riviera, trying to elude paparazzi seeking pix of Bruce Willis’ willy or Natalie Portman’s port side...

Pediatricians agree that infants thrive with a daily dose of “naked time” because the unhampered range of motion aids brain development. Recent discoveries reveal that the “plastic” brain changes and develops throughout our entire lives. Neuroplasticity pioneer Michael M. Merzenich believes, “everything you can see happen in a young brain can happen in an older brain.” This indicates that “naked time” is equally valuable for humans of any age, especially the elderly.

2. Barefoot Medicine. Going shoeless is now recognized as an anti-Alzheimer’s, brain-boosting activity because the sole sensation entices your brain into growing extra, efficient neuron connections...

3. Soothe Away Your Crazies. Massage is recognized as a therapeutic treatment for mental health issues like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolarism, borderline personality disorder, learning difficulties, and low self-esteem...

4. Socialization. Self-actualization proponent Abraham Maslow believed “Nudism... is itself a kind of therapy.”...

5. Weak Body, Worried Mind. Clothes are a breeding ground for filthy fungi and bad bacterium, causing yeast infections, urinary tract infections, rotting toenails. Lyme Disease deer ticks can grab onto your sweater and sea lice can sneak into your bathing suit crotch. Testicular cancer is linked to tight briefs, breast cancer to tight bras...

Girlfriend getaways at clothing optional resorts is the perfect vacation choice

Girlfriends getaways are a major travel niche. I just came across a site called Girlcations. To go to this site click here

This site is about a TV show that will be shot in Atlanta all about girlfriend getaways or as they call them girlcations. A fun play on the words nakations, staycations, and obviously vacations.

Many nudists say not enough women vacation at nudist resorts. Marketing for girlfriend getaways is the perfect way to introduce more women to the nude recreation.

Of course a few policies at nudist resorts will have to change. One is you will have to allow women to go just topless sunbathing. Every few weeks we have a few women staying here taking a girlfriend getaway. If they are not repeats, they always go topless sunbathing first. Most of the time after a day they feel comfortable going nude sunbathing and love the freedom of not wearing any clothes. I know though, if we had a mandatory nudity in the pool rule like most nudist resorts, the women would not come here.

They would go to the European sunbathing pools in Vegas instead so they could try just topless sunbathing instead.

Next, you have to have areas and/or resorts without kids. We have found women coming here for girlfriend getaways do not want to be around naked kids. Many women are school teachers and they do NOT want to hang out at nudist resorts where there are kids. Since we don't cater to families, we are the perfect girlfriend getaway destination.

Whenever we vacation in Las Vegas, we see lots of groups of 2-8 women taking girlfriend getaways. Of course they are wearing clothes or swimsuits. Some, but not too many are at the Las Vegas topless pools.

I think girlfriend getaways are a perfect market for some nudist resorts like ours.

And if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US.

A nakations article with the usual stereotypes

If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I'd love to go to your nudist resort, but I can't until I lose ____ pounds," I'd be a multi millionaire. Yet, this is one of the biggest misconceptions that non non nudists have about vacationing at nudist resorts.

The beauty of a nudist resort vacation is you can be yourself. You DON'T have to lose weight to have a fun, relaxing nude vacation.

Here is her story:

"A relaxing nakation will melt away worries

If it weren’t for the extra pound or 30 I’m carrying around, I might just consider taking a nakation this year...

Seems nakations are all the rage these days. CNN — Curmudgeon News Network — said so. The reporter gives this quote: “‘… there’s the idea that if you’ve lost the shirt off your back, you should go nude,’ said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the American Association of Nude Recreation.”

...Any-hoo, I think we Americans are more practical than Schuttauf thinks.

Basically, on a nakation:

• We don’t have to worry what to pack: Sunscreen, shoes. Oh, and maybe a towel for those really hot car seats.

• We don’t have to answer calls from the office because there’s no place to carry our cell phones.

• We don’t have to fix our hair or put on our makeup because no one will be looking at our faces..."

For the full story click here

The reporter lists another stereotype, "no one will be looking at our faces."

Yes, for the first 15 or 30 minutes, first timers do check people out as it is a new experience. However, societies rules do not change when you are at a nudist resort. Just like in regular life where you look people in the eye when you talk with them, the same is true at nudist resorts.

Once you vacation at a nice nudist resort, you will wonder why you didn't years ago. And our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa is once of the nicest. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Give us a call at 800-786-6938.

Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!
