A Story from Godiva to brighten your day

Everyone who has been to Terra Cotta Inn knows Godiva. She is our 60 lb German Shepherd spokesdog. She is one of the most famous nudist dogs in the US having been on international TV a number of times. Sadly she is aging. She will be 14 this March. Mentally she is still just as sharp as ever.

The other day she told me this story:

One day old Godiva was out chasing squirrels. Before long she discovered she was lost. Wandering about, she notices a large young mountain lion heading rapidly in her direction with the intention of eating her.

Godiva thought, “Uh oh, I’m in deep doo-doo now!” I'm too old to out run that big cat. Noticing some bones on the ground close by, she immediately settled down to chew on the bones with her back to the approaching beast. Just as the mountain lion was about to leap, Godiva woofed loudly, “Boy that was one delicious mountain lion! I wonder if there are any more around here for me to eat for lunch?”

Hearing this, the young mountain lion halted his attack mid-strike. A look of terror coming over him, and he slowly slinked away into the rocks. “Whew!” said the cat, “that was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me there!”

Meanwhile, a clever rabbit who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby bush, figured he could put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the mountain lion. So off he hopped. Godiva saw the rabbit running after the big cat, and figured something must be up.

The rabbit caught up with the mountain lion, spilled the beans and struck a deal for himself with the beast.

The mountain lion was furious at being made a fool and said, “Here, rabbit, hop on my back and see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine!

Godiva saw the mountain lion approaching her with the rabbit on his back and thought, “What am I going to do now?” So she sat down with her back to her attacker, pretending she hasn’t seen him yet and acted very impatient. Just when the big cat was close, getting ready to pounce, Godiva said ”Where’s that rascally rabbit? I sent him off 30 minutes ago to bring me another mountain lion for lunch!”

The moral of the story…Don’t mess with the old dogs…age and treachery always overcome youth and skill!

Palm Springs had the best Nudist Weather this January in the US

Readers of my blog know that I HATE weather.com For some reason they always predict our weather to be way worse than what it really is. People in the tourism industry in Palm Springs always joke that Florida pays off weather.com to make people who don't know any better want to go to Florida, when they should be coming to Palm Springs for our fantastic weather instead!

For instance this month of January, weather.com predicted our weather probably 5 degrees colder than it was on average and predicted that we would have rain maybe 30%of the time. (There was no rain in January).

One of the good things about weather.com is they are truthful in telling us what the weather was like after the fact. So if they predicted 75F and rain and the weather
was 80F and sunny that day, they will be truthful the next day.

Tampa is the home of more nudist resorts than any other part of the US. Luckily for us, Mary Clare was born in Tampa. We knew how their weather just does not compare to the Palm Springs sunshine. That is why our resort is in Palm Springs. Unfortunately, so many people believe weather.com and think Tampa has better weather than Palm Springs so they end up going there in January and February and don't have as nice of a vacation compared to if they had vacationed with us in sunny Palm Springs.

I have here the weather for both cities this month. Here it is:
PALM SPRINGS SUNNY WEATHER THIS JANUARY
Tampa's weather this January

Let's compare. Palm Springs had 9 days of 80F or above in January. And 16 days at 75F and above. Zero days of rain and the 2 days where it said we were cloudy. We were sunny for about 5 hours on each of those two "cloudy' day.

Tampa ONLY had 1 day above 80F in January and ONLY 9 days at 75F or warmer. Also Tampa had 8 cloudy rainy days.

And if you look at Miami, they only had 4 days of 80F or above and 12 days where they had rain and clouds.

Now another thing people never remember is official temperatures are ALWAYS taken in the shade, so in a sunny city like Palm Springs it always will feel much warmer than it really is compared to a cloudy state like Florida.

The picture I posted shows what the sky is like when weather .com predicts a cloudy day for Palm Springs.

So next time when you want your best nudist vacation, with the best nudist weather in the US, come vacation with us, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa in sunny Palm Springs, CA. Give us a call at 800-786-6938.

The first transcontinental flight was 50 years ago Jan 25th

Last year, about 85% of our guests came from out of state or out of country. As the only nudist resort in the west that caters to couples on vacation, because of jets, we have guests from around the world that stay with us. Although most come from all over the US, Canada, England, and Australia.

The number one home state of our guests is Washington. Number two is the province of British Columbia (that's where Vancouver is located). California is #3.

We cater to vacationers. So whenever you want to spend more than just a saturday night in sunny Palm Springs, we are always the first nudist resort people call.

The world has become a smaller place because of the jet for good and bad.

Here is a story about the first flight from the New York Times:

"Lobster on the Menu and History in the Air

The flaps deployed, the landing gear descended and the gleaming Boeing 707 touched down on New York asphalt...

It was a few minutes after 4 p.m. on Jan. 25, 1959, and aviation history had just been made by American Airlines Flight 2: the first transcontinental commercial jet trip, from Los Angeles to what was then known as Idlewild, and is now known as Kennedy International Airport.

It was not the first commercial jet flight (that was B.O.A.C. from London to Rome in 1952) or the first nonstop transcontinental flight (T.W.A., Los Angeles to New York, 1953) or even the first commercial long-haul jet trip (Pan American, Idlewild to Paris, October 1958)...

“The shrinking effect of the jetliner upon geography distorted the earth’s face,” wrote The Los Angeles Times’s on-flight correspondent, Cordell Hicks. “The plane’s enchanting quality consists precisely of its capacity to displace shapes, categories, images and events.”

The scene was straight out of “Mad Men.” Alcohol and cigarette smoke flowed freely. The flight attendants, who would have been called stewardesses, wore heels with their snug blue uniforms — “Most people wouldn’t fit into it today unless you were anorexic,” Ms. Breyton told a radio reporter in 1999 — though they were allowed to change into flats during the meal service.

And the food! No record of the inaugural repast survives (though Mr. Hicks noted that “breakfast was served at 10:15 a.m. over Grand Junction, Colo., cocktails at 11:26 a.m. over Des Moines and lunch at 12:30 p.m. over Cleveland”). But Ms. Breyton dug up a list of the rotating menus American offered on the route. Highlights included fresh Maine lobster with capers, filet mignon, herb-buttered fan tan rolls and macaroon ice cream balls with brandied apricot sauce.

Ms. Breyton said the menus were for first class, but, hard as it is to believe, Mr. Solon said that in those days the same food was served in coach.

Today, American’s domestic cross-country coach passengers may buy a 5.75-ounce package of Lay’s Stax potato crisps for $3, or, if they’re famished, an Asian chicken wrap ($6).

Of course, the ticket itself was relatively expensive. A round-trip in coach in 1959 cost $238.80 — that’s $1,743 in today’s dollars, or about 6 times the price of a bargain coach fare on American today.

On the other hand, the earlier flights were not just cushier but faster: 4 ½ hours eastbound and, because of headwinds, 5 ½ westbound. In today’s stacked-up skies, New York-to-Los Angeles flights typically take an hour longer in each direction — if they land on time. On Sunday, the first two American flights into Los Angeles from New York arrived 24 minutes and 85 minutes late, respectively..."

No Lingerie Bowl this Year

This story just hit the wires:

"Sorry Lingerie Bowl fans, no game this year

The big game won't happen this year.

Not the Super Bowl.

Officials with Lingerie Bowl VI announced today that the Pay-Per-View event, which was set to feature models in their lingerie playing football during half-time of that other football game, will not take place.

Steve McMillen, a spokesman for the event, said Caliente, the clothing-optional resort in Lutz that was set to host the game on January 31st, breached a previously agreed upon 'clothing mandate' for participants and fans, forcing them to cancel them the game.

"The league will not place our fans, players, staff nor partners in a less then comfortable environment that would ultimately jeopardize the mainstream perception and reputation of the brand that so many have worked diligently over these past five years to build." McMillan said...

The controversial event was originally supposed to be played at a vacant lot in West Tampa on January 31st, but was moved to Caliente after residents there objected. Several players later quit, saying they hadn't been paid their full salaries and didn't sign up for an event at a nudist colony...

"While this is a disappointing development for the thousands of fans that were planning on attending the festivities and the millions set to watch the broadcast, we feel ultimately it is in the best interest of the league not to place ourselves in what some would consider a potentially negative environment.", McMillan said...

"We ran into conflicts with the Lingerie Football League wanting more areas of our resort restricted to clothing-required than we could accommodate.", said Angye Fox, Public Relations Director for Caliente..."

Well Caliente will go down in history as the only nude place where lingerie models, some of who have appeared nude in Playboy, say they won't play a football game at this nude place because of the "potentially negative environment." Oh well, another 15 minutes of fame for them.

For nudism to grow, nudists need to support nudist resorts and organizations

Well, it happened again for the 2nd time in about a month that I know of.

We gave a tour today to a couple from Washington. They are members of Lake Bronson nudist campground in Washington and have been members there for many years they said.

They were in Palm Springs for 4 nights. They booked last minute to get out of Seattle's rain. They stayed at the Hilton.

I asked them why they stayed at the Hilton especially since this time of the year we have our special of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced and we are much cheaper than the Hilton. Plus there are other nudist places in Palm Springs. By staying at the Hilton, they wasted almost $375 extra compared to if they had stayed at our resort for those 4 nights.

Their answer was, "the Internet said it was going to rain. We didn't want to be at your nudist resort in the rain." Naturally weather.com was 100% WRONG as usual and we had great sunny weather this weekend. Also if it rained, you can still use our jacuzzi in the rain. And at the Hilton they had to wear bathing suits at the pool which they complained to us about. Imagine nudist club members choosing to wear bathing suits at a Hilton on vacation instead of saving money and staying at a nudist resort that was only 3 miles away.

I said to the people "wouldn't you want to support nudist businesses in Palm Springs in this economy instead Hilton which doesn't support nudism?" They got defensive again saying, "but the Internet said it was going to rain."

Do you want to know one of the biggest reasons nudism is growing so slowly or not at all in the US and why many clubs have closed or gone swinger in recent years? American nudists do not support nudist resorts or organizations enough in our own country. And these are the places that generate all the positive PR about nudism to grow the industry.

Immigrants support neighborhood businesses of their fellow countrymen. Gays stay at gay hotels and use gay businesses when practical. Nudists however are very fickle.

Now nude vacationers who do not belong to the nudist clubs or organizations like AANR support our resort. Probably 95% of our guests do not belong to nudist clubs or the nudist organizations. We work on them trying to get them to join AANR, but it is a hard sell. Because of nude vacationers, we had the 2nd highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in Palm Springs. If we had to rely on nudist club members, we would be out of business.

Nudists that already belong to clubs should know better and support American nudism. But, many of them do not support American nudist resorts enough. Especially since American nudist resorts are such a great value.

Further like at our resort, about 10% of the revenue we take in goes to improvements at our resort to benefit guests and we don't increase the rates. We have always done that to make every ones vacation experience nicer. Last year we had an 81% occupancy rate. It would have been nicer if it was 85% and guests would have benefited more.

Many nudist club members go to the Caribbean or Mexico to vacation at resorts that are not owned by nudists. They then go back to their clubs bragging how they spent $5000-$7500 for a week vacation. These nudist club members should be supporting the American nudist resorts instead and they would save themselves thousands of dollars at the same time. What they spend on the built in travel agent commissions alone for a week long stay at these places, would pay for 3-4 nights at an American nudist resort.

Caliente in Tampa which has swinger parties said nudists did NOT support them enough and swingers do. They have bills to pay, thus they cater to swingers. Nudists have no one to blame but themselves for Caliente's policy change

I do not know how to change this thought process of the experienced nudist club member. But, just remember, every time you book at a non nudist hotel or at a nude place not owned by nudists, you forfeit your right to say "why aren't there more nudist places to go to in the US," because you are part of the reason.

Let's make 2009 the year that American nudists decide to support nudist clubs, resorts, and organizations in the US. Only vacation at American nudist resorts this year. Join the AANR and/or TNS.
