Happy Work Naked Day everyone

Today is the 3rd anniversary of work naked day. It was started by Lisa Kanarek at http://workingnaked.com She writes "Working Naked means different things to different people. To you it may mean working au naturel, while your neighbors and friends may follow the other meaning — working on your own without the support of the corporate workplace."

AANR wrote:

The Top Ten Reasons to Celebrate Work Naked Day on February 1

By AANR Public Relations Committee

10) You don’t have to worry about getting pet fur off of clothing before going to work.

9) Casual Friday is every day of the week.

8 ) Your boss will never say to you again, “I want your ass in here by 9am sharp!”

7) IT guys won’t try to position themselves to look down your blouse.

6) Makes forgetting to turn your webcam off when you Skype more interesting.

5) No one will steal your office chair.

4) Birthday suits replace double-breasted power suits.

3) Saves company money on air conditioning.

2) Will help book sales for Nudist on the Late Shift.

1) Working naked is just another day at the office for telecommuters, telemarketers, sole practitioners, workers at a nudist resort, retirees, or a stay-at-home moms doing chores around their nest.

So happy work naked day everyone!

Who are adult nudists? Why they're everyone!

It is the job of comedians to make fun of groups, races, politicians or themselves. As the late George Carlin said, "I think it's the duty of every comedian to find out where the line is drawn and to cross it deliberately."

Some jokes you know who created them like George Carlin's, "Most people work just hard enough not to get fired and get paid just enough not to quit."

Other jokes like "I don't approve of political jokes. I've seen too many get elected," have been told by so many comedians in making fun of politicians, no one knows who said it first.

Well another inaccurate joke that has been around for a long, long time is "Why is it that most nudists are people you don't want to see naked." Even George Carlin used it.

Now all nudists know this is just a bad joke making fun of us and is so untrue. Sadly though, non nudists actually believe it and sadly so do many in the media.

A Denver website wrote a couple of days ago: http://blogs.westword.com/showandtell/2011/07/nude_day_bastille_day.php "It's one of life's most bitter ironies that, as a general rule, the people most likely to be nudists are the people you least want to see nude -- and so it was with a collective sigh of relief from the pants-wearing world that Nude Recreation Week wrapped up yesterday..." Not to flattering of nudists or the world of nude recreation.

However, the reality, as all nudists know, is completely different. Nudist adults are all ages from their 20's to their 80's. They come from all ethnic backgrounds. They are all sizes from tall to short to average height. They are thin, to average to plus sized weights. They are Democrats, Republican, Libertarians, and non voters. They are pretty, average, and plain in looks. Nudists are all professions and all religions oe no religion. They are more highly educated than average Americans though. Thus, they are you and me.

As a perfect example, above is a photo of Patty, the manager at The Terra Cotta Inn. She is in her 20's and is Latina. Proving nudists are all ages and proving the writer did not do his research.

Also nudists will tell you it is not the outer beauty of people that matters. It is the inner beauty.

Any one who is a nice, happy, friendly person easily could be a nudist.

Sadly what happens when the media thinks they are being funny by making fun of nudists is they are actually driving people away from trying nude recreation.

A nude vacation is one of the best, most fun vacations you can ever have. But with the American media portraying nudists as aging hippies, they do a great disservice to all Americans and first timers by not reporting the news accurately.

So if you are in the media and are writing a story about nudism, The American Association for Nude Recreation is a great source of information, Their site is http://aanr.com And their number is 800-TRY-NUDE.

OF course you can also contact me too as I am the PR Chairperson for AANR. My name is Tom Mulhall at 800-786-6938.

So don't let the media scare you away from trying a nuder vacation, it will be the best one you have ever had!

Bloggers and the media feel free to post this. You do not have to ask my permission.

AANR and Vermont Teddy bear Company Team up with the Skinny Dip Bear

AANR, The American Association for Nude Recreation is such a great organization. They have done so much to promote nude recreation in the US. Their latest is they have teamed up with the Vermont Teddy Bear company and created the Official AANR Skinny Dip Bear. Above is a photo.

I salute AANR for selecting the Vermont Teddy Bear company. It is an American company and the teddy bears are made in the USA. They could have gone with some cheaply made bears made in China. Instead they went quality which is what AANR symbolizes. I am proud that they picked and American company to make the bears.

We intend to buy a Skinny Dip bear for Terra Cotta Inn.

Teddy Bears are named after President Teddy Roosevelt. He is one of the more famous skinny dippers in American history. So it is even more fitting that there is a bare Teddy Bear.

And to kick off the AANR Teddy Bear, they have a promotion.

Here is from the AANR Website:

"AANR Skinny-Dip Bear Debuts
Posted on November 29, 2010 by admin

AANR Skinny-Dip Bear
You already recognize AANR as the go-to source regarding the great American tradition of skinny-dipping. Made by the Vermont Teddy Bear Company especially for AANR, this Birthday Suit Bear’s coat comes off to reveal his naked body underneath. His sash declares “I Love Skinny Dipping” with the AANR logo prominently featured.

The AANR Skinny-Dip Bear encourages people to participate in this healthy, open, safe and friendly activity, while supporting the important role of AANR to protect their right to skinny-dip in appropriate settings.

Enter our contest by letting us know the most interesting place where you would take this cute, cuddly skinny-dipper. You could win the very first AANR Skinny-Dip Bear before they are even sold by having the most creative entry. Leave your comments below. The contest ends Sunday, December 5, 2010."

Do NOT post on the Terra Cotta Inn blog where you would like to go with the Teddy Bear. Post on the AANR blog.

AANR West Fall Festival starts today Oct 8th

Every October http://aanrwest.org has a fun fall festival for members and people who would like to try nude sunbathing for the first time.

This year it is at http://shangrilaranch.com in New river, Arizona which is north of Phoenix.

I am in Phoenix right now for a few days of vacation before the festival, and the weather is great, almost as nice as Palm Springs' weather. It'll be a high around
90F and sunny.

Iam on the AANR West board of directors, so Mary Clare and I are at the festival.

Hope to see everyone at the Fall Festival.

Owner of clothing store threatened with disorderly conduct for a pantsless mannequin

If I didn't read this on a UPI site, I would have said this is a joke. Above is a photo of a mannequin. What is obscene about it.

Here's the story:

"Pantsless mannequin sparks obscenity debate

A Nebraska store owner considering legal action against his city claims police broke the law by covering a window displaying a mannequin with its pants down.

The Beatrice Police Department said officers used tape to cover a portion of the window at Hannah's Treasures because a citizen complained and Kevin Kramer, the owner of the store, could not be reached, the Beatrice Daily Sun reported Tuesday.

Police said the complaint was focused on the mannequin's lower region, which was exposed due to its pants falling down to its feet.

Kramer said he called police to ask about the tape and was told to report to the police station, where he would be cited on a disorderly conduct charge...

However, Kramer said he contacted lawyer Dustin Garrison and the police department dropped the charge when he threatened action against the city on allegations of trespassing, destruction of property and littering on the part of officers...

Tobias Tempelmeyer, city attorney, said the case would hinge on whether or not the display was obscene under the law...

For the full story click here

I don't know what's worse, the cops putting up the tape or a busy body citizen complaining to the police. If I was a cop, I would have laughed right in that citizens face and said "we have important things to worry about, not pants falling down off a store mannequin."

Because of scary people like that citizen and the police in that town, we need organizations like AANR and TNS to help protect our nudist rights.

Do you have ideas for fun, big events to promote nude recreation?

AANR has a new President, Susan Weaver. She's a great person and I look forward to nude recreation growing under her guidance.

I am on the AANR West and National PR committees. We are looking for fun PR events that can be staged hopefully nationwide, but it's OK if it's not nation wide as long as it has good and positive PR potential.

The Guinness World record Skinny dip and this Guinness nude roller coaster ride are 2 good fun examples of positive PR events.

I'm asking people, if you have ideas, let me know. You can leave comments here. You can personally e-mail me at tom@sunnyfun.com or you can call me at 800-786-6938. Just ask for Tom. I'll be happy to talk.

Here's the story on the Guinness record setting naked roller coaster ride:

"Hair-raising ... naked thrill-seekers on ride

The big stripper

MORE than 100 thrill-seekers rode a roller coaster naked, smashing the world record.

The 102 butt-naked adrenaline junkies let it all hang out as they took on the swerves and loops of the fairground ride to raise £22,000 for breast cancer research...

Senior Fundraising Manager at Bosom Pals, Barbara Warner said: "It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of 102 complete strangers, plus the world's media - so we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash more than £22,000 - for our vitally important cause."

For the full story and video Click Here

I look forward to hearing your ideas. Tom

John Tesh says Nakations are the latest travel trend

The words of wisdom that John Tesh's syndicated radio show (over 400 stations) gives is called "Intelligence, Inspiration and Encouragement for Your Life."

Today John Tesh reported on the latest travel trend, Nakations or taking fun vacations at clothing optional and nudist resorts.

What is so cool about this story is John Tesh appeals to middle America. It's mom, apple pie, and John Tesh. And not necessarily in that order of popularity.

John Tesh writes pop and Christian music. He is considered very down to earth and on his radio show he always gives out very valuable and useful advice for living life. His words of wisdom cover many areas like improving your relationships, vacationing, money and finance, workplace, raising families and now nakations.

You can't get more mainstream than John Tesh. And having him talk positively about nakations is phenomenal news. It's just like a couple of years ago having Dear Abby talk positively about vacationing at nudist resorts.

The American Association for Nude Recreation in the last few years has done a fantastic job in mainstreaming nude recreation. Here at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa in sunny Palm Springs, California are very proud to be affiliated with this fine organization and highly recommend everyone to join it. They protect and expand our nudist rights. Go to http://aanr.com for more information about them and about joining them.

From John Tesh's site:

"Nakations Are The Latest Travel Trend

...The new trend is: The “nakation” – which is a fancy word for naked vacation, basically clothing-optional spa, cruise and hotel stays for people who’d rather relax in their birthday suits, and pack only the basics: sunscreen, sunglasses, shoes, hat, and toothbrush.

According to The New York Times, nakations are big business... Nakations rake in $500 million a year – and they’re going upscale. Now there are more 5-star nudist resorts than ever. So, what’s the appeal? Nakation enthusiasts insist it’s not about sex. It’s about being free from the artificial pretenses of society, where everyone is judged by what they wear, what they drive, and what they do. Larry Massa, a retired Navy commander who takes nude vacations with his wife, points out that not wearing clothes is the great equalizer, because you have no idea if someone’s a judge, a doctor, or a mechanic. To make sure every guest is comfortable, many nude vacation resorts turn away single men, or only allow couples....

Before you write off the nakation as gross, weird, or perverted – know this: both Benjamin Franklin and Henry David Thoreau extolled the benefits of nude nature walks – or “air baths,” as they called them. The ancient Greeks did a lot of things in the nude, including playing in the Olympics.

Nude Vodka has a drink called The Skinny Dip

I had e-mailed with the Nude Vodka company a couple of years ago about trying to do some cross promotions. Discussions never want anywhere. Now John Elway is an investor in the company.

I think a PERFECT marriage would be Nude Vodka and nudist resorts, especially ours since it's my idea .

Since we're the most mainstream clothing optional resort and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time, we would be perfect as we would be a very comfortable fit.

Our coverage of the Guinness World record Skinny Dip was around the world on ABC, NBC, and CBS. Along with WGN, MSNBC, and CNN.

Here's the video clip from CNN: http://bit.ly/SkinnyDipVideoCNN

Just imagine if everyone said they were sipping Nude Vodka's Skinny Dip when they set the record.

Here's their recipe for the Skinny Dip:

"Skinny Dip
3 ½ oz. of NUDE Vodka
2 oz. of San Pelligrino
Splash of lime juice

Combine all three contents into rocks glass over ice.
(Garnish – a lime wedge)"

I tried the drink and it's very refreshing especially sipping on it while skinny dipping in the pool.

To see more nude Vodka drinks, go to their site at http://nudespirits.com/nude_vodka_mixology.htm

Next year's Guinness Book of Records Skinny Dip will be held in July, 2011. I hope to hear from Nude Vodka by then.

Video of World record Skinny Dip at Terra Cotta Inn a major hit in North America, Canada, and England

Last Saturday, July 10th was the Guinness World Record Skinny Dip sponsored by AANR. It was a major PR success. In my opinion The World Record Skinny Dip has done more for promoting nude recreation as something fun to do than any other event.

Our local NBC affiliate, KMIR was here filming this fun event on Saturday.

Here is the link to the video CLICK HERE FOR THE NBC TERRA COTTA INN SKINNY DIP VIDEO

Well this video went viral on TV. It's been on CNN, CNN International, WGN, ABC, NBC, and CBS in both Los Angeles and San Diego. We have had guests from all over the US, Canada, England and even Wales tell us that they've seen the video and LOVE IT!

Here's how a Georgia TV station portrayed the skinny dip.

"Nudists at a California resort attempt skinny dipping record

(NBC) - Nudists at a California resort lathered on the tanning oil, and not much else, as they took part in a world-record attempt. Their goal? They want to set the simultaneous skinny-dipping record.

The Saturday event had participants nationwide, and was organized by a group calling itself the American Association for Nude Recreation. Skinny dippers in over 100 locations bared all to go for the gold.

By rule all members at a location had to be in the water, together, at 3pm Eastern time.

The owner of a clothing-optional resort in Palm Springs said groups from Hawaii to the East Coast were taking part. One guest from Canada drove 26 hours to Palm Springs to take the plunge.

It will take about a month to verify the winner. The nudist organization says the Guinness company will list the winner."

Click here for the Georgia story

I've always told people that we are the ONLY clothing optional resort in the west that caters to vacationers. That's why we are the ONLY nudist resort that is popular 7 days a week instead of just weekends.

When another Palm Springs TV station reported at another place in town, they titled their story "Locals Take Part in National Nude Challenge."

NBC TV at our resort focused on our being international with guests from Europe, Canada, and all over the US that came to our resort to be a part of the skinny dip event.

We had 53 people participate in the event and turned away well over another 60 people that called.

So if you have always wanted to take a vacation and try a fun clothing optional resort, now is the time.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

We hope to see you soon in sunny Palm Springs.

As a final note, if you are looking online for stories about this fun skinny dipping event, I have found skinnydip spelled as 1 word, skinnydip and 2 words, skinny dip. So check out both spellings.

The above photos is shot at the Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California.

Terra Cotta Inn on CNN Video for Guinness Skinny Dip Record

The Guinness World record skinny dip sponsored by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) was held on Saturday July 10th. Here at The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional resort and spa, in sunny Palm Springs, California our guests had a blast.

We officially had 53 guests participate. We're a 17 room inn on 1 1/4 acres of land. We're very spacious for the amount of rooms we have and our rooms are very large which is one of the reasons why we are the ONLY nudist resort in the west that caters to couples from around the world on vacation.

We didn't want to overcrowd our resort, so we referred well over 60 other couples that called to other nudist resorts so that they would have a chance to set a Guinness record too.

We had TV covering this festive, fun event. I now find the story of the skinny dip at Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs is going viral on TV. We've been on CNN, MSNBC, WGN, ABC, ABC, NBC in Los Angeles, NBC Palm Springs, San Diego TV, ABC Good Morning Phoenix show, Sacramento NBC, home Page on AOL.com, and I'm sure lots, of other places. If you want to e-mail me at tom@sunnyfun.com or leave a comment here as to where you saw the story, I would love to know.

All TV shows that I have seen have treated this as a fun, positive event. Our phones have been ringing like crazy starting Sunday as so many newbies saw the skinny dip video and want to try nude recreation.

If I was wearing a hat, it would go off to AANR for creating the BEST public relations event EVER. Good Job!!!!

I hope someone posts the CNN video on YouTube. I've been too busy to do so myself handling all the calls.

Here's the link to the CNN news broadcast: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/07/11/pkg.skinny.dip.record.kmir

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Leisure Travelers in the US save American taxpayers $950 a year per household in taxes

Every week I normally have a few guests ask me why aren't there more nudist resorts in the US or Canada. One of the answers I tell them is enough nudists do not support our industry. These people never belong to AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation, FCN or TNS.

They never tell their non nudist friends that they like vacationing at nudist resorts.

They may go to nude beaches or a nudsit place for a short weekend, but they go to the Caribbean or Mexico and vacation at non nudist owned naked places. In short, there aren't more nudist resorts in the US and Canada because there isn't enough support for them.

The Terra Cotta Inn is the ONLY nude vacation resort in the western US. Yet, I would bet 90% of our guests do not belong to nudist organizations. If we had to rely just on card carrying nudists we would be pretty empty instead of one of the most popular of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

Now we have been open 15 years. We know many nudist places do not deserve support as they do goofy, non business friendly things. I just read online of one place that had DJ's come to play at their nudist resort for free and then the resort charged the DJ's $10 for parking. Obviously, that really bothered the DJ's as they posted they would never do it again and were mad because they played for free and were charged for parking.

Or a few nude resorts are cheap and won't even let you bring your own bottled water to drink poolside. There are no textile resorts that I have ever known of that are that cheap.

I went looking online to try to find out the impact of tourism in the US. I found this press release put out appropriately enough on April 14th, 2010:

"Spending by Travelers Saves U.S. Taxpayers Hundreds of Dollars on Tax Day
Each American Taxpayer Would Owe $950 More in Taxes This Year without Tax Revenues from Travel Industry

According to the U.S. Travel Association, American taxpayers would have to pay an average of $950 more per household on “tax day” if not for the tax revenues generated by travel and tourism to and within the United States.

“Take a moment to extend some friendly hospitality to the tourists in your city or town today – the money they spend has saved you nearly one thousand dollars in personal taxes this year,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “The leisure or business traveler staying at the nearby hotel, eating at a local restaurant, shopping or visiting a local attraction is keeping your local economy vibrant and putting money in your pocket.”

The money travelers inject into the economy often means more money for civic development, infrastructure and state and local jobs such as teachers, firefighters and police forces. In 2009, travel spending by U.S. and international visitors resulted in more than $111 billion in tax revenue for federal, state and local government. Of that total, $77.3 billion came from leisure travel and $34.2 billion was generated by business travel, including meetings and conventions...

Travel is a $704 billion industry that generates tax revenue and jobs across the country. One in 13 American workers is employed either directly or indirectly by the travel industry. In addition to those directly employed by the industry, millions of Americans are indirectly employed as a result of the business generated by travel..."

Just imagine how much nudism would blossom in the US if people stopped going to non nudist owned naked places in Mexico and the Caribbean.

We probably reinvest into our resort a higher percent of our revenue than any other nudist resort in the US for upgrades and repairs and not increasing our rates. We have not increased rates for 3 years and do not intend to do so next year.

We average a 80% occupancy rate year round. Could you imagine the upgrades we could have if we had a 90% occupancy rate.

So next time you spend money going to an over priced place in Mexico or the Caribbean, where all they care about is your money, just think of what your vacation dollars could be doing to promote nude recreation in the US and Canada.

Support nude recreation. Vacation only at places that are owned by nudists.

Everyday should be Earth Day for nudists

A big Happy Earth Day to our mother earth!

I think people who enjoy nude recreation are naturally more in tune with nature. I was contacted by AANR (the American Association for Nude Recreation) a few weeks ago. They wanted to know if we were doing anything special for Earth Day.

My response was, "being a nudist, every day should be Earth Day.

When we opened our resort 15 years ago, we immediately started going green and conserving energy. Way before it was trendy. We changed all of our outdoor lighting to fluorescent. We bough high efficiency pool and jacuzzi heaters. We were the FIRST hotel in the whole Palm Springs area that invested in a salt water pool, so we wouldn't have to use so many harsh chemicals like everyone else.

A few years after we opened, the city of Palm Springs started a residential recycling program. We approached city hall informing them that small resorts generate much more recyclable trash than homes. We suggested they should also have a recycling program for small resorts.

At first, we met resistance, but we persisted. Of course it helped that I was on the Board of Directors of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. We got other small resorts to say it was a great idea, so the city gave in. Now of course they brag about the great job they do in recycling (and they do a great job).

Nudists save millions of gallons of water and energy by not washing as much clothing. Also, I bet nudists don't own as much clothing as non nudists, so there is lots of savings there too.

Nudists should be proud of what they do for mother earth. I know we are.

You might be a nudist column from AANR E-Bulletin

I think AANR has done a great job in the last number of years in showing that nude recreation and nude vacations are normal and mainstream. The Guinness world record skinny dip was a genius idea and generated lots of positive PR for nudism.

In the current AANR E- Bulletin (I don't have a link as it comes as an e-mail, John Kinman the president wrote a fun "you might be a nudist" column.

Here it is:

"Below is an excerpt from AANR President John Kinman's President's Podium column that will appear in the February issue of The Bulletin.

While nude recreation and nude travel opportunities have grown a great deal over the past several years, we are still mostly a boutique business compared with large textile resorts with greater economies of scale. If you're willing to pay more to wear less, you could be a nudist.

I've heard of some other descriptions of nudist travelers. With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy and his comedy routine, "You might be a redneck," I offer the following:

YOU MIGHT BE A NUDIST IF:

* You spend a great weekend at a nudist resort and are almost to the exit gate when you realize that you forgot to get dressed.

* You sign up to a time share presentation, take the free gift, and when shown the other resorts you could trade for ask, "Which ones allow me to be nude?"

* You start to walk out of your RV in the morning naked and, for a moment, need to verify that you aren't staying at a KOA.

* You are never without a towel.

* You choose an upstairs room at a hotel with an interior hallway so that your window curtains can be left open and still allow you to be nude.

* When checking in to the Holiday Inn you ask, "What are the clothing-optional hours for the pool and spa?"

* At home, you keep a robe by your front door.

* You buy a velcro waist band to hold tennis balls.

* You can actually identify with this list."

Now besides from being cute, his column brings up a number of issues that pertain to nudist resorts and nudism.

He wrote "If you're willing to pay more to wear less, you could be a nudist." High prices is one of the biggest turn offs for potential nudists. Yes, John is right, this is a boutique industry and yes we have much heavier expenses compared to chain hotels who have the economies of scale, and yes some nudists are weather sensitive and unreliable, they will cancel even if there is only a 5% chance of rain, yet nudist resorts still should be competitive with textile hotels in their area.

When we started The Terra Cotta Inn 15 years ago, because we have been nudists for a long time before we opened, we were tired of paying the so called "nudist premium." Extra money for less amenities and service is not right. Thus, we priced our resort to be competitive with other textile hotels in Palm Springs. Within 3 years time, we had one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in town which we have maintained ever since. And we have ALWAYS been considered one of the best values of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

However, many nudist resorts still insist on over charging. Look at the places in Mexico and the Caribbean. They all charge way more to be on the nude side compared to the prude side. This turns off so many people. And they also think American nudist resorts overcharge too.

Many times we have had nudists stay at textile resorts in Palm Springs and come to our hotel for day use. They figured that we were way more expensive than local textile hotels. Which wasn't true. They didn't even bother to call us for rates as they just assumed we over charged just like the Caribbean places. For nudism to grow, nudist resorts are going to have to become more competitive price wise.

John writes "You spend a great weekend at a nudist resort." Nudists have to stop thinking that nudist resorts are only weekend getaways. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. Think vacation resorts.

When we opened 15 years ago, we looked for spacious property with big rooms. There were no nudist vacation resorts in the western US at that time (and there still aren't except for us). I remember Lee Baxandall who was the head of the Naturist Society tried to give us some "fatherly" advice.

When we told him at a meeting that we intended to find a property that catered to vacationers instead of being a weekend getaway, he told us we were naive. He said nudists and naturists all know you only vacation in the Caribbean. American nudist places are just weekend getaways. His advice was buy a cheap place with tiny rooms and target the Southern Californian weekend getaway market. Get a bar, charge lots of money, and bring in lots of day guests who will buy a lot from your bar. That's the way to make money he advised.

Of course as our guests all know, we did not follow any of his advice (he also told us don't promote nudist resorts as being fun as that would attract the wrong element. Market body acceptance). We bought a spacious resort with large rooms and limit day use. We also let guests BYOB instead of having a bar and overcharging for cocktails. Thus we are the only nudist resort in the western US that caters to vacationers and is popular 7 days a week instead of just weekends like everyone else.

The other thing is nudist resort owners have to be honest with their guests. In December right before Christmas, we are slow (the whole travel industry is slow then. We tell potential guests there may only be 4 or 5 other couples here (we are still busier than everyone else) when they book. We actually will lose guests as they want to come when it is a more social atmosphere here. Yet, I know from doing tours at our resort that other nude places in Palm Springs book people and don't tell them that they are slow. Many a time we let couples stay here for free day use at our resort as they are so disappointed that no one told them that no one else would be at the place they booked and they can't get out of their reservations.

In my opinion, nudist resort owners have a responsibility for guests happiness. Now I know there are some people that don't want other people around when they nude sunbathe and we always recommend other places instead of booking them here, yet, most people like social nudism. And to book someone at a nudist resort when they are going to be the only one there is not fair to the guests. And to book a member of the press midweek at a nudist place where they will write they were the only person there is even worse as it makes nudism appear to not be popular.

For nudism to grow, people in the nudist movement have to stop saying weekends and say vacations. Otherwise, first timers will only think of American nudist resorts as weekend getaways.

Finally John writes "When checking in to the Holiday Inn you ask, "What are the clothing-optional hours for the pool and spa?" This brings up one of the biggest points. Card carrying nudists are probably the biggest group of people that do not support their own businesses. Immigrants have always supported their own small businesses. The Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, always shopped at their own small businesses. Gays try to shop at gay businesses, yet so many card carrying nudists and naturists purposely will not stay at a nudist resort. Even proud of that fact.

Earlier this week, someone wrote on the true nudist website "Are there public places in Palm Springs CA area? Looking for a place to enjoy the sun without going to a resort?" Now that person is Canadian, I assume they will be staying at a hotel somewhere in town. Why are they purposely not wanting to support nudist resorts and instead give their money to textile hotels? On other forums I have read where so called "nudists" proudly write they would never go to a nudist resort. This behavior is so strange. You never see gays write they would never support gay businesses, yet nudists do it all the time.

Well nudist resorts and organizations are what makes nudism popular. If it wasn't for nudist resorts and organizations getting the positive PR, nude beaches would never come into existence. If nudists want places to enjoy nude recreation, they have to support nudist resorts and the organizations. especially in with this economy. So many nudist places are going out of business. And people are dropping out of the nudist organizations.

Yes, I know people say we have free nude beaches, but if there is no longer any organizations or resorts to get positive PR, then someday, there will be no free beaches either.

So change your thinking. Think of American nudist resorts as places to take vacations not just weekend getaways. Get more competitive with pricing, continue to generate lots of positive PR. If we do things like this, the nude recreation industry will grow in the US.

Naturists and nudists need to support nudist resorts

Koreans support other Korean businesses. So do the Chinese, Poles, Mexicans, etc. Gays support other gay businesses. Almost all minorities and ethnic groups support their own ethnic businesses.

Sometimes I think the ONLY people who do not support their own businesses are nudists.

This year more than ever, I have had people come here for day use and stay at a textile hotel. Almost all of them are AANR or TNS members or belong to a club. They never even call us for our rates as they just assume we will be overpriced like the naked places in Mexico or the Caribbean and thus they overpay to stay at an inferior textile hotel instead of staying with us.

It happened again this weekend.

We had a couple who are members of Glen Eden which is a big nudist club about 70 miles away. They called Saturday for day use. We told them we had a room available that night and we were told no they got a great "deal" at a textile hotel, so they would only be coming by for day use.

When they got here, we learned they were staying at the Ace Hotel. It is one of the trendy hotels du jour. They have a PR agency, so they are generating a lot of press. They're advertising tiny rooms with double beds (not even queens, we have California king sized beds) for $99/night.

Sounds reasonable good until you get the other expenses and see your small room. When you get there, you have to pay a resort fee of $25/night, breakfast is about $35/couple/day, and day use at our resort is another $30/day. So the textile hotel "deal" cost $405 for 2 nights. Plus they couldn't check in until 4pm and had to leave by noon. Where we allow 10am check in and 5pm check out at no extra charge.

If they had stayed at our resort, in December before Christmas we have a special of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. Our rates with tax would have been $282.65. No resort fee, no charge for breakfast, or wine and snacks in the afternoon or day use. Thus, they would have saved $122 over the weekend by supporting our resort a nudist resort instead of the textile hotel chain who doesn't care about them. And they could have been nude all weekend.

Yet, when I asked them why they didn't book us as we were considerably cheaper for a superior facility, they told us they never called us or any other nudist place in Palm Springs. They just assumed we were more expensive.

This isn't the first time this has happened to us this year where card carrying nudists booked textile hotels, never called for rates as they just assumed we were more expensive and thus overpaid.

Running a nudist resort is a very hard business. It is a labor of love as you will not get rich at it like you would owning textile hotels. You have to believe in nudism and nudists to own and operate a nudist resort. Am I frustrated, you bet.

Probably only 10% of our guests are members of AANR or TNS. The people who should be supporting nudist resorts are the ones that don't. Thus we had to create our customers. As we have been told many times, we have probably created more nudists in the US than any other resort or club. Even people who have never been to our resort have told us they finally went somewhere because of reading our blog, our tweets, talking to us many times on the phone, etc.

I have no answer on how to get nudists to support nudist businesses in the US. Do you?

This year I have worked harder than ever marketing online. Last year I work 60 hours a week. This year I average about 75 hours a week with the additional time being all online marketing. This year I have had 5-6 so called "true nudists" tell me that I promote my business too much online. They said if I didn't stop promoting it on twitter, facebook, here, etc they would not go to my resort because they are tired of seeing the name Terra Cotta Inn all the time online.

Now I wonder, did they e-mail Coke, or Budweiser Beer saying they promote their products too much and if they didn't stop advertising on TV, they would never drink another Coke or Bud again? Of course not. Yet, they tried to intimidate a small nudist business into not marketing online. And those people have never been to my resort! And I'm supposed to take marketing advice in the worst recession since the 1930's from them? Why won't many nudists support their own in the US.

Thus, I promote to first timers as I know once they book here they will become our repeat guests as we are a FANTASTIC VALUE. In November MSNBC picked us as one of the 3 best deal nudist hotels in the whole US.

So nudists, please call and talk with us before booking a textile hotel in town and overpaying for your vacation. And call and talk with other nudist places before you vacation somewhere else. And stop going to all the naked places in the Caribbean and Mexico. Most are NOT owned by nudists. That's why they gouge you. Nice places like Cypress Cove in Florida and us in the US are fantastic values as MSNBC said.

And first timers, you're lucky as you get to stay in one of the best small resorts in all Palm Springs. This December in Palm Springs Life Magazine, the Best of the Best issue, we were selected as one of the top 3 boutique hotels in ALL the Palm Springs area, pretty cool for nude sunbathers.

AANR's Nakation in a Box is featured on CNN site

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation has realized for more people to enjoy nudism you have to create positive PR. This year they have hit 2 home runs. First with the Guinness Book of records nude skinny dip. Next with the word nakation, meaning taking a naked vacation.

AANR even came up with the concept of a nakation in a box.

CNBC on Friday covered the nakation in a box story in an article is this Holiday gift Stupid or Cool.

Here it is:

"Are These Holiday Gifts Stupid or Cool?

Special to CNBC.com

Is holiday shopping bringing you down? Are you sifting through countless gift ideas trying to find something unique for the person who has everything?

Well, there's a good chance they don't have the stuff on this list!

But buyers beware — there's a fine line between stupid and cool, and this group of products teeters on that edge.

So after scouring the Web to find the most, umm...unique gifts out there, we want you to weigh in and decide...

Nakation in a Box, $74 from the American Association for Nude Recreation

Nakation in a Box

...take a Nakation — a naked vacation — with the help of the American Association for Nude Recreation's Nakation in a Box.

For $74, naked travelers will receive a kit that includes the AANR's North American Guide to Nude Recreation — complete with tips for all you first timers out there — an "I'm on Nakation" towel, temporary tattoos (classy) and sunscreen (ouch!)

$74? That seems pretty steep for a kit that doesn't come with any clothes! But, according to the AANR Web site, it's a small price to pay for "the passport to your best vacation ever."

Nothing says it better than the group's slogan: "Put a little naked in your next vacation — you're going to love it!"

Now you can vote if you think this gift is stupid or cool. Here are the latest results:

CNBC Poll: Tell Us What You Think
Nakation in a Box * 1386 responses

What I thought was pretty cool is 26% of people thought cool. That is a big minority.

Good job with the pr, AANR.

It's time you should try a nakation too.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. You really need to try something new, something fun, and different. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

This December, we were selected by readers of Palm Springs Life Magazine in their Best of the Best Reader's Choice issue as one of the top 3 of ALL boutique hotels in Palm Springs. That's really cool that people put us up with the nicest small hotels in town.
