Nudist Resort selected by LA TImes BEST of Southern California

The LA Times newspaper came out today and they selected the best in 120 different categories of where to go, what to eat, what to do, etc. in Southern California.

The Best hotel that was selected was a Ritz Carlton.

However, the complete surprise was the BEST, most popular resort that was selected. It was a nudist resort. Yes, that's right, us, the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa was picked as the BEST resort in ALL Southern California, textile or nudist.

Now of course we were not selected as the best because of being snobby and trendy, super expensive and overpriced like so many other places. No, LA Times wanted to know what were the most popular, fun places, to shop at, eat at, and vacation at. And there's where Terra Cotta Inn excels.

Our guests have so much fun here. We have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the travel industry at just over 80%. We are one of the best values of ALL hotels and resorts in Southern California.

Nudist Resorts vs Clothing Optional Resorts

We have owned The Terra Cotta Inn for 16 years. One of the things that people are confused about is the difference between nudist and clothing optional resorts. And rightly so.

We have had guests who have stayed at so called "nudist resorts" tell us they were shocked by how many residents stay dressed at the nudist resorts and then they are equally shocked by our resort. We advertise Terra Cotta Inn as clothing optional, yet all guests go nude.

I try to tell people EVERY nudist and clothing optional resort in the US is unique. Ask questions before booking. For instance if you want to be nude all the time and the other guests also be nude, we are the nude resort in Palm Springs that you will want to stay at.

The reason I bring this up is someone wrote on a nudist forum:

"Does anyone know of a resort that is either family or adult oriented that is NOT clothing optional? I am looking for one that is nude only. I have read at different times about resorts in the US that are nude only, so I am sure they exist. When I read it again, I will make a note of it so I can inform the group.
I have been a place that was CO, and it was more like NO. Weather was not a factor when I went. For "newbies", I can understand going to a CO resort so they can get used to the nudity and decide for themselves what they want to do.
For us "seasoned" nudists, we are going to be nude anyway, so why even bother with a CO place?"

Obviously here is another person who doesn't realize that clothing optional places can have more people nude than nudist places, or not, it depends on the resort. It is my experience if a nudist place has full time residents or condos, lots more people will be dressed. Resorts like ours where people take vacations and don't have residents, EVERYONE goes nude as that is what they want to do on vacation. They don't want to be dressed.

So ALWAYS ask questions of resorts before booking so that you will know the type of place you are booking. An easy question to ask is if the owners work nude, (Mary Clare and I work nude). If the owners are nude, you know the guests will be too. If the owners stay dressed a lot, you know the guests will too as guests always follow the tone set by the owners.

Caliente resort, Tampa Lingerie Bowl major marketing coup

Say what you will about Caliente nude resort sponsoring swinger parties. They are the masters of public relations for nude recreation.

In the fall, they asked for a polling place at their resort knowing it would be rejected and the story was picked up world wide.

Now they are going to be official sponsors of the Lingerie Bowl and Super Bowl Sunday and this story will have major coverage world wide. Mark my word.

This story will probably have a very positive impact on nudist resorts and nude recreation as it will make nudism look like it is fun and make it look like young people also enjoy nude sunbathing (which they do).

"Lingerie Bowl To Be At Pasco Nudist Resort

Organizers of Lingerie Bowl VI have found a new field to play on: the Caliente "clothing optional" resort in central Pasco County.

The event, which features scantily clad women playing tackle football, is being organized by Los Angeles-based Horizon Production and the Lingerie Football League franchise.

It will be held Jan. 31 at the resort and will be between Miami Caliente and Tampa Breeze, billed as the "ultimate catfight competition."...

"This season will be the first in Super Bowl's backyard transforming Caliente Resort into a 'Mardi Gras meets Super Bowl-like setting' for football fans," the company said....

Because the event will be held on the grounds of the private 125-acre gated Caliente community, it won't require special permits, said Angye Fox, Caliente's public relations director. Off-duty traffic officers from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office will be needed.

Tickets for the event will range from $50 to $150....

The game also will be broadcast on pay-per-view during halftime of the Super Bowl...

Nudist resort in Australia decides to go swinger for a month

What do you call a nudist resort that operated as a swinger resort for years and years, went back to being a nudsit resort, then announces it is an orgy resort for 1 month? - Confused and definitely not a nudist resort.

In Australia, there is a so called nudist resort that says due to the economic downturn, it its occupancy rate is down. So they are going to be an anything goes sex, orgy place for a month.

This is my take, 2008 has been our best year. We have been making upgrades and improvements over the years, so that now we are considered the most popular nudist vacation resort in the western US. IF you are coming to Palm Springs for a vacation, to stay a week or two, or coming midweek, you stay with us if you like other nudists around to talk to. If you are coming for just a Saturday night, you book elsewhere.

Because of the upgrades, we have found people are cancelling their Caribbean, Hawaiian, and European vacations and staying with us as we are the best value nudist resort in the US.

In my opinion, there has to be a reason why Australians and New Zealanders were not staying there. This year we have had more Aussies and Kiwis than ever. We have a Kiwi couple here today.

The only thing I can say is badly run businesses go out of business during recessions. The media dwells on the bad. Yesterday, we had a reporter call about this story. I told her how not all nudist resorts are doing poorly. I only hope she writes a nice article about nudism and who some places are very successful.

The only thing I can say is this was a great PR coup for this place as this story is being cover (or uncovered) around the world.

An Australian nude resort wants to bring back swingers and sex parties in a bid to boost sagging tourism figures.

The White Cockatoo resort in Mossman, north Queensland, is promoting an adults-only "anything goes" month of hedonism for March next year.

Owner of the White Cockatoo, Tony Fox, this week said it was time to lift a self-imposed swinger ban.

"Tough economic times call for stiff measures," Fox said. "We've taken the bull by the horns and it's going nuts; we're close to fully booked.

"It will be a hedonism resort, where anything goes for a month. We're not using the words sex or swingers, but it doesn't take rocket science to work out what it means."

Three years ago the controversial resort, once billed as the nation's top group-sex hotspot for swingers, hit the headlines when it closed its doors to partner-swapping...

Cairns Catholic Bishop James Foley warned: "It might only end up cheapening the whole resort operation for a short term gain. Anyone who goes to a hedonist's party goes at their own risk."

Caliente Nude resort outside of Tampa Florida is king of PR

Caliente nude resort located north of Tampa has done some really good PR. Asking for a naked polling booth has given them world wide PR.

Of course they probably won't tell first timers that they book a swinger group once a month on weekends, but that is another story.

I congrats on their stroke of genius with this PR stunt.

A nudist reosrt in Florida has had a request for a naked polling booth for the US election turned down.

Naturists at Caliente Resort, near Tampa, asked Pasco County elections officials to set up a clothing-optional polling place for their community.

Resort spokeswoman Angye Fox insisted it was a serious request, reports the St Petersburg Times.

"It's about freedom," she insisted. "People take their civic duty seriously and in many cases nudism is a very serious part of their lifestyle."

But Brian Corley, Pasco's supervisor of elections, dismissed the request as a publicity stunt.

"I think they're just doing some marketing hype," said Corley, adding he heard there was a news release by Caliente touting its request.

Corley said the request came a few weeks ago, and there's not enough time to set up a new polling place for this election. Even for 2010 would be difficult, he said..."
