Modernism Week, Palm Springs, CA Runs February 16th - 26th
South Beach has it's Art Deco buildings. Chicago has it's magnificent skyline. San Francisco has their Painted Ladies. And Palm Springs, California is famous for mid-century modern architecture. Nude sunbathers are extremely lucky as they get to stay at one of the most famous Mid-Century Modern designed hotels in the US, The Terra Cotta Inn.
There were many modernist architects in the 1950's and 1960's, but one of the most famous is Albert Frey. He only designed a few hotels in the Palm Springs area, but his most famous is our small resort. Albert Frey is considered the father of desert modernism.
Above is a photo of Mary Clare and Albert Frey in front of our hotel shortly after we bought it in 1994. Mr. Frey called us as he saw an article about our resort in our local newspaper and he immediately recognized it as the hotel he designed which was originally called The Monkey Tree.
The Monkey Tree was built for celebrities. That's why we have large rooms (300-500 square ft) and why we were built with very high walls to protect the privacy of the celebrities that stayed here. We have learned that Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Desi & Lucy, Spencer Tracy, President Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and many other famous celebrities used to stay here. To this day, we still get some celebrities from time to time.
What is cool is we chatted with Albert Frey for a few hours where he told us he came up with the slanted roof line design to be in synergy with the slope of the San Jacinto mountains. Another thing he told us is he has always been a nudist at heart, (he was Swiss). When he was young, he used to go to Ile du Levant which is in the Mediterranean and was one of the very first organized nudist destinations in the world. Albert Frey was so proud that one of his hotels became a famous nudist resort.
Starting February 16th and running for 10 days, Palm Springs is celebrating modernism week. Click here for things to do: http://modernismweek.com
Albert Frey would also be very proud to know that Palm Springs Life Magazine in their latest Best of the Best issue, reported we are the Best Boutique hotel in the whole Palm Springs area.
Nude sunbathers are the lucky ones as they get to stay at one of the most famous hotels in all Palm Springs. And since we are the most mainstream nude sunbathing resort in the US, we are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.
So try something fun, unique and romantic. Come on out to The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa, Palm Springs most famous mid-century modern hotel.

It's estimated 1Billion people in the world have a Vitamin D Deficiency - Time to go nude sunbathing!

Do you know who the happiest people in the world are? If you said nudists, you're right. Now there's scientific proof that proves this. Vitamin D fights depression. And nude sunbathers have a higher Vitamin D level then non nude sunbathers. Thus, less depression.
In western society, especially America, it seems everything is taken to extremes. Dermatologists have sad no sun, yet we need Vitamin D the sunshine Vitamin to survive. Now this extremism has created a massive Vitamin D deficiency in humans. This could be one of the reasons why autoimmune diseases like asthma and allergies are on the rise.
There was a great article in the Huffington Post about Vitamin D. Here it is:
"Vitamin D Health: Why You Shouldn't Shun the Sun
For the last 30 years or so, doctors (dermatologists in particular), health officials, beauty experts and many product companies have been demonizing the sun. They've told us to avoid it because without sunscreen, exposure to the sun's rays will damage skin and cause cancer. But this oversimplification distorts the facts. In the past few years, numerous studies have shown that optimizing your vitamin D levels may actually help prevent as many as 16 different types of cancer including pancreatic, lung, breast, ovarian, prostate and colon cancers. And the best way to optimize Vitamin D levels is through safe, smart and limited sunscreen-free exposure to the sun.
For hundreds of thousands of years, man has lived with the sun: Our ancestors were outdoors far more often than indoors. We developed a dependence on sunshine for health and life, so the idea that sunlight is dangerous does not make sense... Like all living things, we need sunshine, and it feels good for a reason. Much as plants harness the sun's rays through photosynthesis, our bodies use sunlight to help the skin produce the vitamin D it needs to build bones, quell inflammation, bolster the immune system and protect against cancer (including skin cancer).
Why demonize the sun?
..In the case of sunshine, our UV paranoia is contributing to a silent epidemic: Vitamin D deficiency. It's silent because most people don't know they are deficient. And it's deadly, because this deficiency can lead to cancer and a multitude of other diseases. But we've been brainwashed into believing that even small amounts of sunshine will harm us, and told to slather on sunscreen, which blocks vitamin D production and exacerbates the Vitamin D deficiency induced by our modern, indoor lives.
Studies show that as many as three out of four Americans suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. A study published in 2009 in the Archives of Internal Medicine (a leading scientific journal), found that 70 percent of Caucasians, 90 percent of Hispanics and 97 percent of African Americans in the US have insufficient blood levels of vitamin D. Indeed, it's thought to be the most common medical condition in the world, affecting over one billion people and we now have research showing just how essential vitamin D is to health.
...Independent scientific research has shown that whether you live in a sunny or not-so-sunny climate, exposure to the sun and its UVB radiation will increase your production of vitamin D and help lower the risk of a host of debilitating and fatal diseases -- including many cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, Type I diabetes, multiple sclerosis and depression.
And now the experts are concerned that we're passing an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency down to a new generation. Studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency may imprint on an infant for the rest of his/her life. Infants that are vitamin D deficient at birth can remain vitamin D deficient for the first several months after birth, which may put them at risk of developing many chronic diseases much later in life...
We now know that almost every cell and tissue in our body has vitamin D receptors, which raises the question: Why would those receptors be there if they weren't meant to have an effect?
...The best way to determine whether or not you are deficient is to have your vitamin D blood levels measured and replenish accordingly.

So to get your Vitamin D, come to sunny Palm Springs, California and go nude sunbathing at our popular resort the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.

Virgin America has a big airfare sale Buy by 12/29/09 Fly by June 20, 2010
Nude sunbathers from the Pacific Northwest sure are lucky. Virgin America entered the west coast market this year and has already driven down the price of flying from Seattle and San Francisco to Southern California.
Virgin America flies into LAX (120 miles from Palm Springs), San Diego (140 miles away) and Orange County (100 miles away).
With Virgin Airlines in the market, Alaska Airlines prices have also come down. This is one of the reasons why the #1 home state of our guests is now Washington.
We book more room nights with guests from Washington than we do with guests from any other state. One of the reasons is airfares are so reasonable. Of course the major reason is nude sunbathers love our place. We have a super high repeat guests rate at over 75%, one of the highest in the travel industry.
So if you are looking for the perfect Christmas present, book a vacation at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.
Here's the details from Virgin America's site:
"Book by December 29 and fly with movies, TV, WiFi, food on-demand, seat-to-seat chat and more. So get on board with fares starting from $39* each way. Travel is valid for flights with 3-day advance purchase through June 20, 2010. Fares for travel on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday may be higher. Grab a seat today.

Historic Inns of Palm Springs on NBC TV News

Every year in downtown Palm Springs, there is a tour of historic inns. Although we are a historic inn, we are not included in the tour as we are about 3 miles away from downtown.
We were built in the sunny part of Palm Springs. Downtown is right next to a
10,000ft mountain chain. Downtown is right in the shadow of the mountain. The Terra Cotta Inn was built away from downtown, so the sun sets on a lower part of the mountain for us. In the winter we get an extra 30 minutes of sunshine compared to downtown (and other nude places) and in the summer an extra 1 hour of sunshine.
This is one of the many reasons why we are one of the most popular of ALL resorts in Palm Springs.
NBC TV Los Angeles aired the tour this morning on the news.
Our clothing optional resort is also a historic inn. We were designed by Albert Frey who is Palm Springs' most famous architect. We were originally designed as a celebrity resort where Marilyn Monroe, Spencer Tracy, Hope Hope, Frank Sinatra, President Kennedy and many more famous celebrities stayed (we still have a few from time to time being so close to Hollywood).
Nudist are lucky as they get to stay in one of the best small resorts in all Palm Springs. Just this December in Palm Springs Life Magazine, the Best of the Best issue we were selected as one of the top 3 boutique hotels in ALL the Palm Springs area, pretty cool for nude sunbathers.

The Conservative Orange County Register newspaper says leave nude sunbathers alone
The Orange County Register is a very conservative newspaper. They had an editorial basically telling government to leave nude sunbathers and people who moon passing trains alone. It is very telling that a conservative newspaper that is usually so law and order has to step in and say, government officials, back off.
Here is the story:
"Leave mooners and nudists alone
O.C. governments clamp down on the fun.
An Orange County Register editorial
Southern California still has the international reputation as being a fun-in-the-sun place. The reality has been whittled away by government officials and police agencies that have been cracking down on life's innocent pleasures. The stories abound. Beaches now are mostly smoke-free zones. Don't you dare try to enjoy some wine at the beach on a quiet evening! Cities have tried to get rid of beach fire rings. We heard one story about police staking out a local park July Fourth and ticketing people watching fireworks, given that parks are supposed to be closed after dark.
A couple of recent brouhahas – involving nude beach-goers and people who moon trains – should be viewed in this perspective.
...we have an even harder time understanding why the authorities have such a desire to put a damper on innocent fun. These days, officials fit H.L. Mencken's definition of a Puritan: someone with the haunting fear that somewhere, someone is happy.
Naturists had long enjoyed nude sunbathing at Trail 6 at San Onofre State Beach. They mostly keep to themselves. But state officials, citing complaints from the public, have started to fine them and will begin a full-on crackdown on Labor Day.
..."It's getting to be that you can't have fun anymore," one mooner told the Register. We agree. Yes, rules are needed to restrict destructive behavior. Yes, the government has the right to patrol its own property. Yes, these are relatively minor things in the course of existence. Still, public parks are meant to be enjoyed by the public. The government has simply moved too far in the direction of rule-making and control."
For the full story click here
I think this article hit the nail on the head. So many people are so unhappy with their lives. Especially government officials. The only thing that makes them happy is trying to control others happiness. If someone is having fun, it makes them miserable,so their attitude is lets make the citizens miserable too.
Very sad that government no longer seems to work for us citizens.
Now if you want to have fun where it is 100% legal, then come visit our clothing optional resort The Terra Cotta Inn located in sunny Palm Springs, California.

Are you a nudist - nudist video.
When I originally reported on this story, another nudist blog carried the link. Because of Google censoring all the nudist blogs, I guess that blogger got disgusted and deleted his posts. Thanks google for standing up for the Bill of Rights and the Freedom of Speech in America.
The writer showed a nudist video from Naked News. They had their naked news reporter at Haulover Beach in Miami, FL which is a nice nude beach.
One of the questions the reporter asks the nude sunbathers is "are you a nudist?" Now what "true nudists" will find astonishing is you have a naked reporter asking nude sunbathers and most of the nude sunbathers answer "No I am not a nudist."
I am not surprised by this answer.
I find this answer to be so true at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. I'll bet the majority of our guests, would say they are NOT nudists. They just like nude sunbathing and being nude on their vacations. And they would never, ever be nude around their children.
Sorry I don't have a link to that video.
And if you have always wanted to go to a nice, safe, relaxing resort where you can go nude or topless sunbathing, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Nude Beach not approved at a New Zealand resort community

The city council at the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand realizes that topless and nude sunbathing is a major tourist draw, has approved nude sunbathing and created a legal nude beach there.
The city council at another resort community, rejected a topless and nude beach. Why, the mayor thinks people look better in bathing suits.
Listen major, your job is not to govern based on your own closed minded views, but what the citizens want. If you were Moslem, I bet you would want everyone to dress up in a Burkini like the picture above.
I for one am tired of politians imposing their own closed minded views thinking that they know best. Hmmm, sort of sounds like the McCain/Palin ticket doesn't it?
Here's the story:
"Sunbathers on Caroline Bay will need to stay covered up
PUBLIC nudity on Caroline Bay will not be an issue this summer.
While togs may soon be optional on the Kapiti Coast, they are definitely required on Caroline Bay, according to the police and Timaru District bylaw.
..Timaru mayor Janie Annear did not believe nude sunbathing would be a drawcard for the city.
Instead of enhancing a Riviera of the South image it was likely to put people off.
Nude bathing was unlikely to be aesthetically pleasing - clothes helped most people look better.
"I've always thought you should leave a lot to the imagination. Reality is never as exciting as illusion."
She said nudity was really a private thing...
Mrs Annear said that in 2007 the council went over the bylaws to consolidate them and decided that togs were appropriate at Caroline Bay.
"We didn't believe the public had the intestinal fortitude to cope with any more."
...Mid-South Canterbury area controller Dave Gaskin was unaware of any complaints of public nudity. If nudity offended, the police would respond.
Former Timaru woman Kaye Hannam is a member of the New Zealand Naturist Federation and editor of its magazine, Gonatural.
...Ms Hannam believed a great acceptance of naturism was healthy and the Kapiti situation indicated that "simple" nudity was not an offence.
Naturism was not about voyeurism or beauty but acceptance of people in their natural state, she said."
The major doesn't think it would be a drawing card. US the US as an example, Haulover nude beach is the most popular beach in Miami. Our resort has the 2nd highest occupancy rate of all hotels in Palm Springs. We also have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the whole travel industry at almost 80% repeat guests. Wholesome nude recreation is very popular.

Topless sunbathing creates future nude sunbathers and nudists

Topless sunbathing creates future nude sunbathers and nudists.
Women are normally more nervous than men about trying a vacation at a nudist resort for the first time. One of the things we do here at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa to make women feel more comfortable is we allow women to go topless sunbathing if they choose and then when they are more comfortable, they can go nude sunbathing. We find that probably 95% of women feel comfortable very fast and go nude sunbathing by the time they check out of our nudist resort.
We have had a few naturist "experts" tell us throughout the years that we are running our business wrong. They told us we need to be nudity mandatory at the pool as first timers will feel more comfortable that way. The interesting thing is these "experts" were always guys giving us this advice and they really didn't care how women felt as to them nudity manditory was more important.
I just read on a nudist forum that a naturist resort is going back to strictly enforcing their nudity mandatory policy at the pool. Here is what was written by a guy agreeing with this policy:
"They're enforcing the "nudity required" rules in and around the pools, which is becoming especially important now that the resort is seeing first-time naturists visiting (first-timers will be particularly uncomfortable when people around them aren't fully nude)."
There is a reason why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs. Women feel very comfortable at our resort, especially first timers.
Women are never comfortable being told that they MUST be nude. In my opinion, that rule will backfire with first timers and that hotel will have a low occupancy rate from first timers.
We normally average around a 75-80% repeat guest rate. All of our repeats are nude at the pool. So our first timers see our repeat guests comfortably nude sunbathing at the pool and quickly become very comfortable nude sunbathing themselves. They don't have to be forced to be nude, they want to be because they are given a choice.
The only reason why a nudist resort might have to have a nudity mandatory rule that I can think of is maybe they have a low occupancy rate, so first timers out number the repeats.

Florida predicted to be rainier than normal this winter - Vacationers beware!

Farmers' Almanac which is a 192 year old publication and claims a weather predicting accuracy rate of 80-85% is predicting a wetter than normal winter for the Southeast this winter. That means Florida and the Caribbean will get more rain than usual.
My wife, Mary Clare was born in Tampa, Florida. We tell guests that is why our resort is located in sunny Palm Springs and not rainy Florida, because nude sunbathers love the sunshine and we know Florida is the rainiest state in the nation.
Palm Springs averages less than 3 inches of rain a year, major cities in Florida average from 60-66 inches a year. With about 350 days of sunshine a year, vacationing in Palm Springs should be a no brainer. However, the state of Florida has major marketing muscle. They came up with the advertising slogan "Sunshine State" to try to convince naive northerners to take their vacations in Florida, the rainiest state in the nation.
And it works. We hear from so many people complaining about their rainy vacations they took in Florida. When we ask why they went to the rainiest state in the nation, they always say they thought Florida was supposed to be sunny. So vacationers beware!
Here is the prediction:
"LEWISTON, Maine - People worried about the high cost of keeping warm this winter will draw little comfort from the Farmers' Almanac, which predicts below-average temperatures for most of the U.S. ...The almanac's 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least two-thirds of the country can expect colder-than-average temperatures this winter, with only the Far West [meaning Palm Springs] and Southeast in line for near-normal readings. The almanac predicts above-normal... above-normal precipitation... for the Southeast in January and February. The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions will likely have an unusually wet or snowy February, the almanac said....Geiger sticks to his guns, saying the almanac was on target in the 2008 edition when it said the Northeast and the Great Lakes would have a long, cold winter with lots of snow..."
