Come to Terra Cotta Inn's FREE naked BBQ this weekend Jan 13th - 15th - It's Summer in January!

Summer is never out of fashion in Palm Springs, California the sunniest city in the US. For instance in ALL of 2011, Palm Springs only had 2.11 inches of rain the whole year. That's one of the many reasons why nudists and naturists in the know, will only stay in Palm Springs at Terra Cotta Inn.

The weather has been fantastic in Palm Springs, California. We have been in the 80's all week long and we are 100% sunny. And sunshine is predicted for the coming week and weekend. Many people don't realize that official temperatures are taken in the shade, so it feels even warmer in Palm Springs sun.

Since it is so sunny and so warm and this coming weekend is a 3 day holiday weekend for many guests, we decided instead of waiting until summer to throw a summer BBQ, we'll have one now to celebrate our summer in January.

And what's the best way to go to a BBQ? Naked of course!

We'll have hotdogs, hamburgers and all the yummy side dishes that you expect like cole slaw, potato salad, salad, and more.

And the Palm Springs film festival runs all week long until January 16th. Who knows, you may end up sitting next to a Hollywood star at a screening.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Just this fall AOL Travel, UK wrote "Discover our picks of the BEST Clothing Optional resorts around the world." They recommended Terra Cotta Inn as the ONLY nude sunbathing resort in the US catering to couples. Pretty cool.

It's nice when the LA Times, or Los Angeles Magazine, or Palm Springs Life Magazine pick us as the best place to stay in Southern California, but this is even cooler when AOL Travel England recognizes us also as the best place for couples.

And of course we're the best not because of being snobby. We're the best because we have the best guests. They have so much fun and are so friendly and wonderful.

AOL Travel also wrote about Terra Cotta Inn nudist resort that we "are considered one of the best value nudist resorts in the world." No reason to overpay for a nude vacation any more.

We are an affordably luxurious nudist resort. And don't forget all January long, we have our annual room sale of stay 1 night, the 2nd is 50% off on Sunday through Thursday nights. And no hidden resort or day fees here.

Give us a call at 800-786-6938 (toll free US and Canada) for more information or to make reservations.

Naturist Action Committee Alert asks for your support in California

ACTION ALERT

DATE: November 23, 2010
SUBJECT: California
TO: Naturists and other concerned citizens

Dear Naturist,

This is an Action Alert from the Naturist Action Committee. NAC is asking for your immediate involvement in an effort to have the State of California create officially designated areas for clothing-optional recreation in state parks.

CALIFORNIA STATE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
The California State Park and Recreation Commission is NOT the same thing as the State Parks and Recreation Department. The Commission has specific authorities and responsibilities which are defined in California law. Those include the approval of general plans for units of the State Park System, classifying units of the System, establishing general policies for the guidance of the Director of State Parks in the administration, protection and development of the System, and recommending to the Director a comprehensive recreation policy for the state.

As allowed by law, NAC and its allies have submitted a petition asking that portions of specified state parks be set aside for clothing-optional recreation. The State Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has simply ignored the properly submitted petition.

Meanwhile, since DPR has chosen to make selective termination of the longstanding Cahill Policy, there is presently no statewide or comprehensive policy that addresses the responsible nude use of portions of state park units.

NAC is looking for the State Park bureaucracy to assert some leadership. The Commission has the authority and the responsibility to establish general policy and to recommend policy to DPR, and that’s what NAC is seeking.

ACTION 1: ATTEND COMMISSION’S PUBLIC MEETING ON DECEMBER 10
If you’re in the southern California area, NAC requests that you attend a public meeting of the State Park and Recreation Commission that is scheduled to be held in San Diego on Friday, December 10, 2010.

DATE: Friday, December 10, 2010
TIME: 9:00 a.m.
LOCATION:
Old Town Theatre
4040 Twiggs Street
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
San Diego, California

Members of the public will have the opportunity to give brief statements. But whether you speak or not, your presence is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to lend support to the message of naturists.

We seek the setting aside of areas for clothing-optional recreation in State Park units.

There are few items on the December 10 meeting agenda, and the meeting is likely to move quickly. Please plan to be at the the Old Town Theatre no later than a half hour before the meeting starts.

If you’re planning to attend the meeting, please contact:
NAC board member Allen Baylis
rab@baylislaw.com
(714) 962-0915

or NAC executive director Bob Morton
execdir@naturistaction.org
(512) 282-6621

ACTION 2: WRITE TO THE COMMISSION
If you’re unable to attend the meeting, you can still help. NAC asks that you write to the Commission. Send your comments by e-mail, fax or surface mail. Those who will be at the meeting on December 10 are also encouraged to write.

WHO SHOULD WRITE?

NAC is requesting ALL NATURISTS and other concerned individuals to contact California officials on this important matter, regardless of your place of residence. California understands the importance of out-of-state visitors who come to enjoy the state’s beaches, lakes and streams. The opportunity to provide diverse recreational opportunities applies to those visitors, as well as to California residents. While all are encouraged to make their voices heard, the participation of Californians is, of course, particularly important.

Send a letter, a fax or an e-mail. Phone calls will likely be ineffective in this specific context.

California State Park & Recreation Commission
P.O. Box 942896
Sacramento, CA 94296
FAX: (916) 654-6374
Louis Nastro, Assistant to the Commission
E-MAIL: LNastro@parks.ca.gov

Send a copy to:

California Department of Natural Resources
Natural Resources Agency
1416 Ninth Street, Suite 1311
Sacramento, CA 95814
FAX: (916) 653-8102
E-MAIL: secretary@resources.ca.gov

NAC encourages you to send copies of your faxes and paper mail to:
NAC, P.O. Box 132, Oshkosh, WI 54903.
Send copies of your e-mails to:
CA@naturistaction.org

WHAT SHOULD YOU SAY?

When you write:

a) Be polite.

b) Be known. Give your name and address. If you are a California resident or a frequent visitor to California, be sure to point that out. Anonymous letters have very little impact.

c) Be focused. Keep your correspondence brief and on target.

d) Be positive. Remember that we’re trying to ENCOURAGE the Parks Department to do something. Please do not take a scolding tone.

e) Be clear. Say that you SUPPORT the petition asking for designation of clothing-optional areas in units of the State Park System.

Additional writing points:

a) This is NOT just about San Onofre State Beach. Although that beach was the first State Park unit at which DPR has killed its policy for managing clothing-optional recreation, it will not be the last. The present lack of a comprehensive statewide policy threatens ALL clothing-optional areas in California State Park units. Consider the implications for Black’s (Torrey Pines), Gaviota, Bonny Doon and many others.

b) For thirty years, the Department’s Cahill Policy allowed a means to manage for clothing-optional recreation in units of the State Park system. The nullification of the Cahill Policy has left the department with no statewide policy to address a form of recreation that’s obviously popular with the public. The submitted petition proposes a specific way to address the management of clothing-optional recreation.

c) Officials of the Parks and Rec Department have pointed to lewd behavior as a reason for prohibiting nudity. In doing so, they have confused simple nudity with lewd behavior. Rangers presently have the authority and responsibility to stop lewd activity, and naturists encourage them to exercise that responsibility appropriately. However, that specific authority is separate and different from the legal authority the Parks Department has to establish areas for clothing-optional recreation.

Nudist resorts and pubic hair styles

Owning a nudist resort, we get lots of questions. One of the more common ones concerns pubic hair styles and shaving or bikini waxing.

And the interesting thing is Europeans are much more concerned about pubic hair styles than Americans. We get e-mails from Europeans saying "we're smoothies, is that OK at your resort?" I have learned that some European nudists and naturists think if you shave your pubic region bare, or as they call it become a smoothie, then you're obviously a swinger.

Here in America, no one cares about your pubic hair or lack of it. Now I will say that more women "style" their pubic hair than let it grow natural. But, it's only a fashion choice. It has nothing to do with whether you are a "wild" person or not.

Even shaving companies advertise women's pubic razors in mainstream American magazines. Here is an ad from a a women's magazine that Mary Clare showed me (she forgot which one). You can see the female statue has a shaped pubic region.

The ad says "Quattro for Women Trim Style. Whatever your style. The only four-blade razor and waterproof bikini trimmer in one. Shave, trim, and transform with just the flip of a handle. FREE YOUR SKIN." This is made by Schick.

So even women who are NOT nudists are into trimming and shaving pubic regions.

So are many men.

So basically, here in America, if you trim or shave your pubic region, it is no big deal as it is so mainstream. No one cares what your hair style (or lack of one) looks like.

So come as hairy or bare as you dare.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We're the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

On a MSNBC TV show in November, we were also named as the best value nudist resort on the west coast.

You might be a nudist column from AANR E-Bulletin

I think AANR has done a great job in the last number of years in showing that nude recreation and nude vacations are normal and mainstream. The Guinness world record skinny dip was a genius idea and generated lots of positive PR for nudism.

In the current AANR E- Bulletin (I don't have a link as it comes as an e-mail, John Kinman the president wrote a fun "you might be a nudist" column.

Here it is:

"Below is an excerpt from AANR President John Kinman's President's Podium column that will appear in the February issue of The Bulletin.

While nude recreation and nude travel opportunities have grown a great deal over the past several years, we are still mostly a boutique business compared with large textile resorts with greater economies of scale. If you're willing to pay more to wear less, you could be a nudist.

I've heard of some other descriptions of nudist travelers. With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy and his comedy routine, "You might be a redneck," I offer the following:

YOU MIGHT BE A NUDIST IF:

* You spend a great weekend at a nudist resort and are almost to the exit gate when you realize that you forgot to get dressed.

* You sign up to a time share presentation, take the free gift, and when shown the other resorts you could trade for ask, "Which ones allow me to be nude?"

* You start to walk out of your RV in the morning naked and, for a moment, need to verify that you aren't staying at a KOA.

* You are never without a towel.

* You choose an upstairs room at a hotel with an interior hallway so that your window curtains can be left open and still allow you to be nude.

* When checking in to the Holiday Inn you ask, "What are the clothing-optional hours for the pool and spa?"

* At home, you keep a robe by your front door.

* You buy a velcro waist band to hold tennis balls.

* You can actually identify with this list."

Now besides from being cute, his column brings up a number of issues that pertain to nudist resorts and nudism.

He wrote "If you're willing to pay more to wear less, you could be a nudist." High prices is one of the biggest turn offs for potential nudists. Yes, John is right, this is a boutique industry and yes we have much heavier expenses compared to chain hotels who have the economies of scale, and yes some nudists are weather sensitive and unreliable, they will cancel even if there is only a 5% chance of rain, yet nudist resorts still should be competitive with textile hotels in their area.

When we started The Terra Cotta Inn 15 years ago, because we have been nudists for a long time before we opened, we were tired of paying the so called "nudist premium." Extra money for less amenities and service is not right. Thus, we priced our resort to be competitive with other textile hotels in Palm Springs. Within 3 years time, we had one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in town which we have maintained ever since. And we have ALWAYS been considered one of the best values of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

However, many nudist resorts still insist on over charging. Look at the places in Mexico and the Caribbean. They all charge way more to be on the nude side compared to the prude side. This turns off so many people. And they also think American nudist resorts overcharge too.

Many times we have had nudists stay at textile resorts in Palm Springs and come to our hotel for day use. They figured that we were way more expensive than local textile hotels. Which wasn't true. They didn't even bother to call us for rates as they just assumed we over charged just like the Caribbean places. For nudism to grow, nudist resorts are going to have to become more competitive price wise.

John writes "You spend a great weekend at a nudist resort." Nudists have to stop thinking that nudist resorts are only weekend getaways. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. Think vacation resorts.

When we opened 15 years ago, we looked for spacious property with big rooms. There were no nudist vacation resorts in the western US at that time (and there still aren't except for us). I remember Lee Baxandall who was the head of the Naturist Society tried to give us some "fatherly" advice.

When we told him at a meeting that we intended to find a property that catered to vacationers instead of being a weekend getaway, he told us we were naive. He said nudists and naturists all know you only vacation in the Caribbean. American nudist places are just weekend getaways. His advice was buy a cheap place with tiny rooms and target the Southern Californian weekend getaway market. Get a bar, charge lots of money, and bring in lots of day guests who will buy a lot from your bar. That's the way to make money he advised.

Of course as our guests all know, we did not follow any of his advice (he also told us don't promote nudist resorts as being fun as that would attract the wrong element. Market body acceptance). We bought a spacious resort with large rooms and limit day use. We also let guests BYOB instead of having a bar and overcharging for cocktails. Thus we are the only nudist resort in the western US that caters to vacationers and is popular 7 days a week instead of just weekends like everyone else.

The other thing is nudist resort owners have to be honest with their guests. In December right before Christmas, we are slow (the whole travel industry is slow then. We tell potential guests there may only be 4 or 5 other couples here (we are still busier than everyone else) when they book. We actually will lose guests as they want to come when it is a more social atmosphere here. Yet, I know from doing tours at our resort that other nude places in Palm Springs book people and don't tell them that they are slow. Many a time we let couples stay here for free day use at our resort as they are so disappointed that no one told them that no one else would be at the place they booked and they can't get out of their reservations.

In my opinion, nudist resort owners have a responsibility for guests happiness. Now I know there are some people that don't want other people around when they nude sunbathe and we always recommend other places instead of booking them here, yet, most people like social nudism. And to book someone at a nudist resort when they are going to be the only one there is not fair to the guests. And to book a member of the press midweek at a nudist place where they will write they were the only person there is even worse as it makes nudism appear to not be popular.

For nudism to grow, people in the nudist movement have to stop saying weekends and say vacations. Otherwise, first timers will only think of American nudist resorts as weekend getaways.

Finally John writes "When checking in to the Holiday Inn you ask, "What are the clothing-optional hours for the pool and spa?" This brings up one of the biggest points. Card carrying nudists are probably the biggest group of people that do not support their own businesses. Immigrants have always supported their own small businesses. The Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, always shopped at their own small businesses. Gays try to shop at gay businesses, yet so many card carrying nudists and naturists purposely will not stay at a nudist resort. Even proud of that fact.

Earlier this week, someone wrote on the true nudist website "Are there public places in Palm Springs CA area? Looking for a place to enjoy the sun without going to a resort?" Now that person is Canadian, I assume they will be staying at a hotel somewhere in town. Why are they purposely not wanting to support nudist resorts and instead give their money to textile hotels? On other forums I have read where so called "nudists" proudly write they would never go to a nudist resort. This behavior is so strange. You never see gays write they would never support gay businesses, yet nudists do it all the time.

Well nudist resorts and organizations are what makes nudism popular. If it wasn't for nudist resorts and organizations getting the positive PR, nude beaches would never come into existence. If nudists want places to enjoy nude recreation, they have to support nudist resorts and the organizations. especially in with this economy. So many nudist places are going out of business. And people are dropping out of the nudist organizations.

Yes, I know people say we have free nude beaches, but if there is no longer any organizations or resorts to get positive PR, then someday, there will be no free beaches either.

So change your thinking. Think of American nudist resorts as places to take vacations not just weekend getaways. Get more competitive with pricing, continue to generate lots of positive PR. If we do things like this, the nude recreation industry will grow in the US.

Naturists and nudists need to support nudist resorts

Koreans support other Korean businesses. So do the Chinese, Poles, Mexicans, etc. Gays support other gay businesses. Almost all minorities and ethnic groups support their own ethnic businesses.

Sometimes I think the ONLY people who do not support their own businesses are nudists.

This year more than ever, I have had people come here for day use and stay at a textile hotel. Almost all of them are AANR or TNS members or belong to a club. They never even call us for our rates as they just assume we will be overpriced like the naked places in Mexico or the Caribbean and thus they overpay to stay at an inferior textile hotel instead of staying with us.

It happened again this weekend.

We had a couple who are members of Glen Eden which is a big nudist club about 70 miles away. They called Saturday for day use. We told them we had a room available that night and we were told no they got a great "deal" at a textile hotel, so they would only be coming by for day use.

When they got here, we learned they were staying at the Ace Hotel. It is one of the trendy hotels du jour. They have a PR agency, so they are generating a lot of press. They're advertising tiny rooms with double beds (not even queens, we have California king sized beds) for $99/night.

Sounds reasonable good until you get the other expenses and see your small room. When you get there, you have to pay a resort fee of $25/night, breakfast is about $35/couple/day, and day use at our resort is another $30/day. So the textile hotel "deal" cost $405 for 2 nights. Plus they couldn't check in until 4pm and had to leave by noon. Where we allow 10am check in and 5pm check out at no extra charge.

If they had stayed at our resort, in December before Christmas we have a special of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. Our rates with tax would have been $282.65. No resort fee, no charge for breakfast, or wine and snacks in the afternoon or day use. Thus, they would have saved $122 over the weekend by supporting our resort a nudist resort instead of the textile hotel chain who doesn't care about them. And they could have been nude all weekend.

Yet, when I asked them why they didn't book us as we were considerably cheaper for a superior facility, they told us they never called us or any other nudist place in Palm Springs. They just assumed we were more expensive.

This isn't the first time this has happened to us this year where card carrying nudists booked textile hotels, never called for rates as they just assumed we were more expensive and thus overpaid.

Running a nudist resort is a very hard business. It is a labor of love as you will not get rich at it like you would owning textile hotels. You have to believe in nudism and nudists to own and operate a nudist resort. Am I frustrated, you bet.

Probably only 10% of our guests are members of AANR or TNS. The people who should be supporting nudist resorts are the ones that don't. Thus we had to create our customers. As we have been told many times, we have probably created more nudists in the US than any other resort or club. Even people who have never been to our resort have told us they finally went somewhere because of reading our blog, our tweets, talking to us many times on the phone, etc.

I have no answer on how to get nudists to support nudist businesses in the US. Do you?

This year I have worked harder than ever marketing online. Last year I work 60 hours a week. This year I average about 75 hours a week with the additional time being all online marketing. This year I have had 5-6 so called "true nudists" tell me that I promote my business too much online. They said if I didn't stop promoting it on twitter, facebook, here, etc they would not go to my resort because they are tired of seeing the name Terra Cotta Inn all the time online.

Now I wonder, did they e-mail Coke, or Budweiser Beer saying they promote their products too much and if they didn't stop advertising on TV, they would never drink another Coke or Bud again? Of course not. Yet, they tried to intimidate a small nudist business into not marketing online. And those people have never been to my resort! And I'm supposed to take marketing advice in the worst recession since the 1930's from them? Why won't many nudists support their own in the US.

Thus, I promote to first timers as I know once they book here they will become our repeat guests as we are a FANTASTIC VALUE. In November MSNBC picked us as one of the 3 best deal nudist hotels in the whole US.

So nudists, please call and talk with us before booking a textile hotel in town and overpaying for your vacation. And call and talk with other nudist places before you vacation somewhere else. And stop going to all the naked places in the Caribbean and Mexico. Most are NOT owned by nudists. That's why they gouge you. Nice places like Cypress Cove in Florida and us in the US are fantastic values as MSNBC said.

And first timers, you're lucky as you get to stay in one of the best small resorts in all Palm Springs. This December in Palm Springs Life Magazine, the Best of the Best issue, we were selected as one of the top 3 boutique hotels in ALL the Palm Springs area, pretty cool for nude sunbathers.

Naturist Paramedic bullied at work

I'm always asked a question, why more young people don't admit they are nudists or naturists. This story is a perfect example.

School teachers for instance are terrified that someone will find out as they could lose their jobs. Sadly, nudists are treated the same way as gays were treated 30 years ago.

Here's the story:

"Paramedic 'bullied over naturism'

...A paramedic accused of misconduct was bullied at work because of being a naturist, a hearing has been told...

Colleague Pat Kenworthy told the Health Professions' Council committee that a small group of employees had gossiped about Mrs Armitage's lifestyle.

She told the HPC Mrs Armitage had been the victim of "malicious backstabbing".

Ms Kenworthy told the conduct and competence committee she had worked with Mrs Armitage for 20 years and her behaviour at work was perfectly normal.

Asked what aspect of her lifestyle attracted comment, she replied: "That she is a naturist.

She added that some members of staff questioned whether Mrs Armitage had visited a local sex club...

...She said: "He also made a great number of remarks about my personal life which Mrs Kenworthy has already explained.

"He just seemed to think it was highly amusing and the more upset I got about it the worse he became."

The only way to counter closed minded people is for more people to come out of the closet nude.

Mary Clare and I are proud to be nudists. We have nude photos all over the web. We tell as many people as possible that we are nudists.

I was just at a the Council of State Governments meeting last week helping to man AANR's booth. We had state legislators from all over the US come to our booth. Some giggled, some snickered, one from Oregon congratulated AANR on working so well with the Oregon Parks department at Rooster Rock nude beach.

Every once in a while we got a "well I don't know about that" type of comment. I immediately always told the person, that I had been elected the president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce that has over 1000 members. If the local business community put their trust in a nudist I think you should too. Every time I said that the reaction was a big "WoW." It opened their eyes that nudists can be normal successful business people.

I hope as many people as possible work up the courage and tell their friends and family that they're nudists or that they enjoy nude recreation. It's the only way to get rid of people wrong ideas about nudism.

And for those of you who are thinking of vacationing at a clothes free resort, now is the time to try something different and fun. Think clothing optional. Think Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California. Give us a call at 800-786-6938.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Nudist resorts need to do a better job at marketing themselves

I spend lots of time marketing our nudist resort on line. Although we average just over a 75% repeat guest rate, we still need new customers every day. Marketing is my job at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.

What makes me write this post is there is a group on Facebook called Sleeping Naked. It is a fun group with fun posts. It has 125,625 members when I checked earlier today. Yes, that is right, over 125,000 members.

I looked at AANR's (American Association for Nude Recreation) Facebook group and they had 469 members. TNS, The Naturist Society was not much better at 529 members. Terra Cotta Inn has less than 100 members. However, our free yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/friendsoftheterracottainn has almost 3000 members. So I am not a complete online idiot :-)

I couldn't believe it, 125,000 members in a group called Sleeping Naked. That is fantastic numbers. Why do they have so many members and nudism so few?

The press loves to cover nudism. Look at how they covered the Guinness World Record Skinny Dip.

The only conclusion I can come to is nudism just is not being portrayed as fun. And if it doesn't seem like fun, people won't be interested.

This is what is on The Naturist Societies Facebook page:

"Our Mission Statement

The mission of The Naturist Society is to promote a culture of body acceptance through clothing-optional recreation using the tools of education and community outreach...

The Naturist Society views clothing-optional recreation as essential to body acceptance. Through clothing-optional recreation, participants, be they individuals, couples or families, learn to appreciate the diversity of body types, gain a better understanding and acceptance of their own bodies, and reap the social, psychological and physical benefits of a healthy and natural way of life..."

No where is the word FUN mentioned. And that is the one thing that all nudists and naturists say about nudism and naturism. It is FUN.

Now the Naturist Society is free to market themselves however they feel to promote their organization. I for one though, think FUN has to be involved. That is why our website is http://sunnyfun.com

This Sleeping Naked Facebook group really opened my eyes as to what a bad job I and most other nudists are doing promoting nudism. And I am sure this affects the bottom line for nudist resorts and organizations.

Now if you want to take a fun vacation, give us a call at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time. You don't even have to be a nudist to vacation with us.

The Conservative Orange County Register newspaper says leave nude sunbathers alone

The Orange County Register is a very conservative newspaper. They had an editorial basically telling government to leave nude sunbathers and people who moon passing trains alone. It is very telling that a conservative newspaper that is usually so law and order has to step in and say, government officials, back off.

Here is the story:

"Leave mooners and nudists alone
O.C. governments clamp down on the fun.
An Orange County Register editorial

Southern California still has the international reputation as being a fun-in-the-sun place. The reality has been whittled away by government officials and police agencies that have been cracking down on life's innocent pleasures. The stories abound. Beaches now are mostly smoke-free zones. Don't you dare try to enjoy some wine at the beach on a quiet evening! Cities have tried to get rid of beach fire rings. We heard one story about police staking out a local park July Fourth and ticketing people watching fireworks, given that parks are supposed to be closed after dark.

A couple of recent brouhahas – involving nude beach-goers and people who moon trains – should be viewed in this perspective.

...we have an even harder time understanding why the authorities have such a desire to put a damper on innocent fun. These days, officials fit H.L. Mencken's definition of a Puritan: someone with the haunting fear that somewhere, someone is happy.

Naturists had long enjoyed nude sunbathing at Trail 6 at San Onofre State Beach. They mostly keep to themselves. But state officials, citing complaints from the public, have started to fine them and will begin a full-on crackdown on Labor Day.

..."It's getting to be that you can't have fun anymore," one mooner told the Register. We agree. Yes, rules are needed to restrict destructive behavior. Yes, the government has the right to patrol its own property. Yes, these are relatively minor things in the course of existence. Still, public parks are meant to be enjoyed by the public. The government has simply moved too far in the direction of rule-making and control."

For the full story click here

I think this article hit the nail on the head. So many people are so unhappy with their lives. Especially government officials. The only thing that makes them happy is trying to control others happiness. If someone is having fun, it makes them miserable,so their attitude is lets make the citizens miserable too.

Very sad that government no longer seems to work for us citizens.

Nude Beach goers at San Onofre to get tickets after labor Day

So much for people thinking we live in a democracy here in California.

San Onofre nude beach has been a nude beach for almost 50 years. Then last year a dictator of "moral values" took over as the head (but obviously not brains) of the states Parks department. Obviously she has major issues with nudity and people enjoying themselves while nude sunbathing.

She declared San Onofre Nude Beach illegal to go nude sunbathing. Naturists sued. They won in the lower courts, but lost in the court of appeals. Now they are deciding whether to appeal to the California Supreme Court.

This is a very popular nude beach. It is the most popular one at the San Onofre area. In a poll that was on the San Clemente Times website (before the results were taken down) it was over 80% of people were in favor of the nude beach.

So much for us being a democracy. It's sad here in America that one nasty politician with power can undo 50 years of public use of a nude beach.

Here is the story:

"Bare beach goers at Trail 6 in San Onofre State Beach will get away with a warning through the summer.

State officials said they plan to educate the public at the traditionally clothing-optional beach about the new ban -- posting signs and verbally warning state park visitors through Labor Day weekend.

"After that time, appropriate enforcement action will be taken including citation and arrest if necessary," said Ken Kramer, district superintendent of the Orange Coast District. The citation fine is unclear because it's ultimately determined by the courts, Kramer said.

At the same time, a group of nudists who want to keep it clothing-optional at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach are considering appealing their case to the state's Supreme Court after they lost the latest legal wrangling...

"Apparently, they are happy to collect the significant revenue Trail 6 generates in day use fees," Baylis said of the citation delay...

Their decision overturned a lower court's decision in which an Orange County Superior Court judge ruled that the Cahill Policy is indeed a regulation and that state Department of Parks and Recreation violated procedure when they adopted a nudity ban without first seeking public feedback...

For the full story click here

It will be sad if it closes. We have many guests from the midwest and east coast come out here in the summer and spend Sunday nights thru Friday nights at our resort in Palm Springs and go to San Onofre on Saturday and Sunday to go nude sunbathing at the beach, so they can have a beach experience. Now they won't suffer as they will just spend the whole week at our resort, but there staying there I'm sure brought in a lot of revenue to that area as the nude beach is the post popular beach in that whole state park.

Too bad the idiots at the state Parks department don't open their eyes to see how Haulover Beach became the most popular beach in Miami because it is a nude beach. They could also look to Palm Springs where they would see that our nude resort, The Terra Cotta Inn has had the highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in Palm Springs in the summertime for over the last 10 years.

So if you are looking for a fun, relaxing vacation, give us a call at 800-786-6938.

San Onofre nude beach will be closed if naturists don't win court battle

I have had a few people say to me that they bet I am happy that San Onofre nude beach down by San Diego County may be closed by the state. They said "more business for me."

That is so untrue. Only about 15% of our business comes from Southern California as we're the ONLY nudist resort west of the Mississippi that caters to couples on vacation. Southern Californians normally just want to book us only on Saturday nights like typical nudist resorts, where guests from around the world like to book us 7 days a week. That's why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

We have had lots of guests who have booked us Sunday thru Thursday nights and then go to San Onofre for the weekends when it has nude sunbathers.

Lots of people like nude beaches, so I am sad if it is not reopened to nudists.

Here is the story:

"Naturists lose court battle to keep O.C. beach nude
Group says it will likely appeal to California Supreme Court in case involving San Onofre

A group of nudists who want to keep San Onofre State Beach's Trail 6 a clothing-optional beach have lost their latest legal battle, after a panel of justices at the 4th District Court of Appeal ruled that a policy that addresses nudity at state beaches is invalid.

The ruling favored state officials who last spring decided to crack down on a more than 20-year tradition of nude sunbathing at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach.

Huntington Beach attorney Allen Baylis, who led the fight against the ban, said the Naturist Action Committee will likely appeal their case to the state's Supreme Court.

"It's time for the (Department of Parks and Recreation) to realize that one of the reasons San Onofre has so many visitors is that there's a very popular clothing-optional beach there," Baylis said. "The people who visit Trail 6 pay their admission fees and buy their annual passes, which contribute a significant amount of money to the department and the local economy."

...Officials said the naturists have to adhere to a code in state law called nudity prohibited, which states that "no person shall appear nude while in any unit except in authorized areas set aside for that purpose by the department."

...Stearns also said the new superintendant's decision to ban nudity at the beach came after an increase in complaints about the influx of people to the area in recent years, stating that the area is no longer remote.

Some in the naturist community disagree, however..."

I hope the California Supreme Court is more enlightened then the court of appeals.

We're from Southern California. We can't come midweek, we work for a living"

We have nudists, naturists, and first timers from around the world vacation with us. For instance we have a couple here from Australia, this is probably their 7th time in 3 years they have stayed with us and they have already booked again this summer and early next winter.

We are the only clothing optional vacation resort in the western US. We are busy 7 days a week. we are not just a weekend getaway like everyone else. On our website http://sunnyfun.com we print our last minute availability so you can see our occupancy rate.

One of the funniest things I hear owning our nudist resort for 14 years is potential guests from Southern California say when we tell them we are booked on weekends and we suggest that they book midweek. We hear at least once or twice a day, "We're from Southern California. We can't come midweek, we work for a living."

This always cracks me up. Of course all of our guests work for a living. They use vacation time off of work to stay here. We always have more people from Canada, Washington, Arizona here than we do from Southern California because they take vacations.

For instance in the photo is a picture of our friend Jos from England.

Nudist guests who book 1 and 2 week long vacations with us always tell us, "you're so lucky being in Southern California as you have such a big customer base to draw on. They think people in Southern California would be just like them and want to use their vacation days to stay at our resort.

And when we tell them that although we have been selected one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world and guests from around the world vacation here, it is the hardest thing to get a Southern Californian to use a vacation day to stay with us. Now once they do, they become our repeat guests.

So even though we are one of the best nudist resorts in the world, so many guests from Southern California never get to have fun at our resort because they don't take vacation time off of work to stay here.

Now is the perfect time for you to take a fun clothes free vacation. Give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938.

Nudist Colonies news story on the web

Nudist colonies are in the news again. This story has hit the wire services worldwide. The lastest nudist story is about Cap d'Agde in the south of France. We were there for a week about 10 years ago. You can tell the person who wrote the story knows nothing about nudism as they would know nudist resorts are never called nudist colonies.

We have heard from guests that swingers and sex swappers have really invaded Cap d'Agde in the last few years. During the day there is still the family nude beach where you feel somewhat comfortable, but it is basically anything goes at the swinger beach.

The problem we have always found with swingers and nudist resorts that bring in swingers, is swingers never keep to themselves. They are always pushing the envelope with their behavior and are always very annoyingly hitting on nudists.

The Terra Cotta Inn is not and never will cater to swingers.

In my opinion, Cap d'Agde should have enfoced their policies against public sex. Now they have a mess on their hands.

Here is the story:

"FOXNEWS.COM HOME > WORLD

Report: French Nightclubs Burned Down in War Between Nudists, Swingers
Monday, November 24, 2008

One of Europe’s most famous nudist colonies has become the subject of an unusual investigation by French detectives after the destruction of three nightclubs in fires blamed on naturist "hardliners."

The normally peaceful Cap d’Agde, a magnet for nudists in the south of France, has been plunged into anxiety as investigators suspect "fundamentalist" nudists of harboring a grudge against the échangistes, or swingers, who are drawn to the town by the promise of sex.

A so-called boîte échangiste — or wife-swapping club — called Glamour, where couples engage in group sex, was the first to be destroyed in April. The next day, the Palme Ré, another orgy venue, also went up in flames. In September, the Tantra club and Zen, its neighboring bar, were leveled in blazes...

Tensions have risen between the naturists, who believe that nudity is a healthy choice of lifestyle and nothing to do with sex, and the échangistes, who are attracted to nudist camps by the prospect of multiple partners."

DATE : November 12, 2008
SUBJECT: Seattle, WA
TO : Seattle area naturists

Dear Naturist,

The Naturist Action Committee wishes to make you aware of an important situation in Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department's Board of Park Commissioners will be presented on Thursday evening with a staff-prepared proposal that would prohibit nudity in any public park or park facility open to the public. Seattle presently has no such rule, and a rich tradition of clothing-optional use has
quietly developed at parks in the city.

WHEN
November 13, 2008
7:00 PM PST

WHERE
Board of Park Commissioners
100 Dexter Avenue N
Seattle, WA 98109

WHAT IS NAC DOING?

NAC board member Mark Storey will be at the meeting, along with others from the Seattle area who oppose the proposed park rule. The Naturist Action Committee has already given a number of local media interviews on this issue.

WHAT IS NAC ASKING YOU TO DO NOW?

If you live in the Seattle area, NAC is asking you to attend the meeting on Thursday evening. Each of those who attend will have an opportunity to speak briefly (2 minutes). This is very short notice, but the information was made available to the public only late Wednesday.

If you speak, NAC suggests that you focus on Parks & Rec's own Strategic Action Plan. Comments solicited from citizens during the recent development of that Plan overwhelmingly asked for the inclusion of clothing-optional areas in public parks. The proposed rule simply ignores the voices of those citizens.

YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE TO ACT

A formal public hearing for the proposed ban on nudity has been scheduled for January 8, 2009. You will have another chance to act. Please watch for additional NAC Action Alerts, Advisories and Updates on this important topic.

Naturist Club in South London

When I think of a naturist club, I think of a club off in the woods where naturists go camping.

However, this article is about a naturist nightclub located in South London.

The article is about how more and more venues are opening for nude recreation in England. Here is the story:

"London where the only rule is that everybody has to be naked. And when I write naked, I mean TOTALLY naked... And it seems that this club is having a big success. Always crowded. I didn’t know that London was hosting such a big community of naturists. So I’ve made some research, just for fun. And it seems that if you like to live and move free from your clothes, you can find in London naturist spas, naturist swimming pools… There is even a meetup group for naturist Londoners, so be ready for naked parties and events. I don’t think I’ll ever try that Naked Disco concept, but if you want to, why don’t come to London for a weekend and book a night in a lovely naturist B&B? I’m not kidding, it exists too…

For the full story click here

I tried to find more information about Starkers at google.com. I don't find much. Then I remembered, it was English so I went to google.co.uk which is the British google search engine. There I discovered that they rent out a nightclub once a month on a Friday to hold a nude party.

As much as I could see, it is on the up and up and is now listed in some London on line travel guides.

I wish them good luck. The more venues people have to try nudism, the more it grows.
