Topless sunbathing complaint dismissed by Italian Court

Here in Los Angeles, a recent KTLA - TV, poll of 2500 people asked, "Do you think women should be allowed to go topless on California Beaches?" 63.1% of people said YES! It looks like Americans are becoming more Europeanized in their attitudes towards topless and nude sunbathing.

However in Europe, they have their own people who hate the sight of the naked human body. In Italy, where it is legal to go topless sunbathing, a mother of 2 boys aged 12 and 14 had a topless sunbather arrested for apply suntan lotion on a topless beach.

Here's the story:

"Italian court throws out topless sunbathing complaint

An Italian court has thrown out a complaint by a mother who said that her young sons were "troubled" by the sight of a busty young woman applying suntan lotion on the beach.

The Rome court took just a few minutes to reject the case, in which the mother-of-two had accused the 26-year-old woman of committing "obscene acts in a public place"...

The mother had asked the fashion store assistant, identified only as Luisa under Italy's privacy laws, to cover herself up because her large breasts and the act of rubbing cream on them had "troubled her sons aged 14 and 12."...

He pointed out that it was not illegal to sunbathe topless on an Italian beach and said it was not his client's fault if she had an "ample bosom".

"The accusation against her was the product of bigotry and provincialism which, luckily, only characterizes a small number of Italians."

Luisa said she was "happy" and relieved with the court's decision, which she described as a victory for common sense...

Fox TV writes about National Go Topless Day to be held Sunday, August 26th

Most Americans confuse the rights of women to go topless wherever a man can go shirtless with modesty instead of fashion.

Back in the 1700's, it was very fashionable for nobility in Europe to have their breasts completely exposed when going to balls. Then came Victorian prudishness, where a woman showing a bare ankle was considered showing too much flesh and was a society no no.

Men in the US until the 1930's could be arrested for being bare chested at the beach. Why do we subject American women to this same repression? Here's a photo showing what it was like on American beaches back in the early 1900's.

The purpose of Go Topless Day is equality. It is acceptable for women to be topless wherever men go shirtless in much of Europe, why not in the US?

Women, once you go topless sunbathing, you will never want to wear a ill fitting bathing suit top again. We support this movement. Good luck everyone!

Fox TV reported on this event to be held this Sunday August 22nd. Of course all of our guests will be celebrating it as everyday of the year is Go Topless day here at The Terra Cotta Inn located in sunny Palm Springs, California.

Sunday is "Go Topless" Day, with women (and men) gathering in U.S. cities to advance a woman's right to go shirtless, just like men.

"As long as men can be topless, constitutionally women should have the same right, or men should also be forced to wear something hiding their chest," Maitreya, Rael, "spiritual leader" and founder of Go Topless , the group behind Sunday's annual event, says on the group's website...

The annual event is held on the Sunday nearest to Aug. 26, the date in 1920 when the U.S. Constitution was amended to grant women the right to vote. Also, Congress in 1970 declared Aug. 26 "Women's Equality Day."

Major cities taking part include: San Francisco; New York; Austin, Texas ; Los Angeles; Denver; Seattle; Miami, and Chicago ...

For supporters of the topless cause, a woman's breasts should not be treated any different than her legs, belly button or other body parts than can be exposed without hassle.

"It's a matter of fairness," Go Topless director Nadine Gary told AOL News . "We want equal topless rights for all or none." ...

She said the goal is also to establish clarity in what's allowed. Gary noted that a woman arrested in New York for going topless in public was later awarded $29,000 for wrongful arrest...

Video of World record Skinny Dip at Terra Cotta Inn a major hit in North America, Canada, and England

Last Saturday, July 10th was the Guinness World Record Skinny Dip sponsored by AANR. It was a major PR success. In my opinion The World Record Skinny Dip has done more for promoting nude recreation as something fun to do than any other event.

Our local NBC affiliate, KMIR was here filming this fun event on Saturday.

Well this video went viral on TV. It's been on CNN, CNN International, WGN, ABC, NBC, and CBS in both Los Angeles and San Diego. We have had guests from all over the US, Canada, England and even Wales tell us that they've seen the video and LOVE IT!

Here's how a Georgia TV station portrayed the skinny dip.

"Nudists at a California resort attempt skinny dipping record

(NBC) - Nudists at a California resort lathered on the tanning oil, and not much else, as they took part in a world-record attempt. Their goal? They want to set the simultaneous skinny-dipping record.

The Saturday event had participants nationwide, and was organized by a group calling itself the American Association for Nude Recreation. Skinny dippers in over 100 locations bared all to go for the gold.

By rule all members at a location had to be in the water, together, at 3pm Eastern time.

The owner of a clothing-optional resort in Palm Springs said groups from Hawaii to the East Coast were taking part. One guest from Canada drove 26 hours to Palm Springs to take the plunge.

It will take about a month to verify the winner. The nudist organization says the Guinness company will list the winner."

Historic Inns of Palm Springs on NBC TV News

Every year in downtown Palm Springs, there is a tour of historic inns. Although we are a historic inn, we are not included in the tour as we are about 3 miles away from downtown.

We were built in the sunny part of Palm Springs. Downtown is right next to a
10,000ft mountain chain. Downtown is right in the shadow of the mountain. The Terra Cotta Inn was built away from downtown, so the sun sets on a lower part of the mountain for us. In the winter we get an extra 30 minutes of sunshine compared to downtown (and other nude places) and in the summer an extra 1 hour of sunshine.

This is one of the many reasons why we are one of the most popular of ALL resorts in Palm Springs.

We love Westjet, since they started flying to Palm Springs, our Canadian business has sky rocked. We now book more room nights with Canadians than we do with guests from Southern California.

But that is pretty easy as we are the only nudist resort in the Western US that caters to couples on vacation. Today 1 day only big WestJet airfare sale May 21st

Westjet announced a big 1 day only airfare sale. A Canadian guest told me about it.
You have to book by midnight mountain time tonight Thursday May 21st.

Here are the details from their website:

"Save on select cities.

Book by May 21, 2009 (11:59 p.m. MT) for travel on Saturdays and Sundays for travel from June 6 to June 14, 2009."

The select cities to fly out of Canada are Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. You would fly into Los Angeles airport, LAX.

Qantas Airlines has an Airfare sale To Los Angeles - Sale ends April 3rd

Our guests mainly come from all over the US, Canada, England, Australia. We have many Aussies stay with us every year especially since we are the only nudist resort that caters to couples on vacation here in the western US.

We always enjoy our Australian guests as their country is so unique. Aussies always have great stories. We hope to get to Australia ourselves one of these years.

Anyway, we will be getting more Australian guests as Virgin Australia will be flying to the Los Angeles so there will be competition and already airfares are coming down.

We got a cancellation for February 27th and 28th

Last minute cancellations are really hard on repeat guests. So many people are begging for a room at our hotel and we have to tell them we are full.

Guests then book somewhere else like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or San Diego which is no where near as much fun as staying at The Terra Cotta Inn here in sunny Palm Springs. When we call people on our wait list about last minute cancellations our repeat guests always say, "why can't those people cancel earlier so other people can have a chance to come to Palm Springs?"

Well we got another weekend cancellation today. You are more than welcome to book the Fri & Sat February 27th and 28th or just the Saturday, February 28th.

The weather is supposed to be fantastic this weekend in the low 80's and nice and sunny. This time of year we don't usually have weekends available (except because of last minute cancellations) so now is the perfect time to book for a great fun weekend in the sun.

There are a lot of great last minute airfare sales out there. For instance, I looked at a round trip from Seattle to Palm Springs for this weekend leaving on Friday the 27th and departing back to Seattle on Monday March 2nd. On http://cheaptickets.com I found a round trip using United for only $242. The cheapest tickets I found on United's own site were $371. On Alaska, I found tickets for $363.

We got a cancellation for Feb 20 and 21

One of the most frustrating things for our repeat guests is so many are turned away on weekends by us because of our being full. The guest is told we're full, they then book somewhere else like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or San Diego which is no where near as much fun as staying at The Terra Cotta Inn here in sunny Palm Springs. We get a last minute cancellation and our repeat guests say, "why didn't those people cancel last week so we could have come to Palm Springs instead?"

Westjet Airfare sale ends Sept 10th at midnight

Many of the airlines are having airfare sales for the fall right now. Westjet just announced a big sale yesterday. You must buy tickets by midnight tonight MST.

Here is the info from their site:

"Our lowest fares are now easier to find. The next time you search for flights on westjet.com, our new fare finder will display the lowest available fare for your travel date and each of the surrounding 28 days.

Book by September 10, 2008 (11:59 p.m. MT). For Canadian destinations, travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays until December 17, 2008. For U.S. destinations, travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from November 1 until December 17, 2008."

At this point Westjet is flying into Los Angeles airport (LAX). Come I believe November 18th, Westjet starts flying into Palm Springs (PSP) again until the end of May.
