Our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional resort and Spa is a business members of FCN which is the Federation of Canadian Naturists. They do the same great work in promoting naturism in Canada that AANR does in promoting nudism in the US.
It is funny, since Canadians are a little bit more British oriented, they use the words naturist and naturism, where most Americans use the worlds nudist and nudism. Oh well, it is like the song "You say potato, I say potato...
Anyway, An Edmonton Journal writer won an award from the FCN and other Canadian naturist organizations (of course they have to have a french speaking organization).
She writes she is very proud of her award.
Here is what she has to say:
"Salad Daze

Meet the best nudism writer in Canada
Happy Nude Year!: When winter makes nudism a bit too nipply, nudists get their fix with a dip at the pool
I wanted to let you know, dear readers, that I have won a very special sort of writing prize. Not a National Newspaper Award, or a fellowship, or a grant. No, no, those are soooo overrated. The prize I've won is a specialty award, an exclusive sort of award that not just any old writer with a keyboard and a pocketful of trendy adverbs can claim.
Read it and weep: I have won the prize for: the best article about naturism in English to have appeared in the non-naturist print media in Canada during 2007. This award is presented by the Fondation naturiste du Québec in association with the Fédération québécoise de naturisme and the Federation of Canadian Naturists.
Yes, that's me! The Edmonton Journal's resident nudism beat reporter, Elizabeth Withey!
Note this prestigious award comes with a certificate and a $150 cash prize. Far out.
Honestly, winning this prize has made my WHOLE SUMMER. It truly has. I remember, shortly after I wrote the article so so long ago, that someone emailed me and said they'd entered my story in the contest. At the time, I thought, now wouldn't THAT be a hoot...and then I promptly forgot about it. Now, 18 months later....victory!...
Perhaps you've detected a trace of silliness, even mockery, in this posting. It is all affectionate teasing. I am actually quite proud of this win (and I'm not just saying that because I haven't yet received my prize money). It's an honour to be recognized with a writing award of any sort...even the Grade 10 writing award in rural Saskatchewan (yup, I nabbed that one too). So, thanks, FQN/FCN. Truly. I am chuffed. I love it. I mean, how many people can put "award-winning nudism journalist" on their CVs? It's terrific.

Elvis Presley's Palm Springs estate is for sale
Elvis Presley's estate in Palm Springs is now for sale. If you ever wanted to buy some history, now is the time.
Palm Springs is the coolest vacation destination in the US. There is so much Hollywood history in our town. Lots of movie stars have or had homes here.
Elvis Presley honeymooned here and later bought a home. It is now up for sale.
Here's the story:
"Elvis Presley's Palm Springs Home On The Market
Some names add cachet to a house years after they have moved on. Elvis Presley definitely falls into that category. Now his Palm Springs home, basically his "Graceland West" is up for sale... The home is located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs. Elvis lived in the home for almost eight years (he purchased it in 1970) and spent his last birthday there.
The approximately 5,000 square foot home has four bedrooms. Architect Albert Frey designed the Spanish-style stucco home which includes Presley's bedroom suite with two complete bathrooms, a sunken black and red tile tub, and dressing area. The living room has a cathedral beamed ceiling and overlooks the pool. The home is being sold with Presley's original kitchen appliances, a separate indoor sauna and steam room, plus his private covered Jacuzzi...
The property is approximately two acres and is listed at $17 million. For more information about the property, or to request a showing, contact Honey Brooks at 415.435.2585"
And if you want to stay at another famous Albert Frey designed Palm Springs hotel, you need to stay at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. We are a unique, fun, romantic nudist resort.
Never been topless or nude sunbathing? No problem. It is the fastest growing trend in the travel industry.
Terra Cotta Inn is considered the most mainstream nudist resort in America and perfect for couples trying nude sunbathing for the first time.

Palm Springs modernist architecture featured in Time Magazine

Palm Springs has more modernist architecture per capita than any other city in the US.
Albert Frey is one of the famous modernist architects of Palm Springs. He designed around 200 properties including our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.
Time magazine just had an article about renting modernist houses. Well for a lot less you can stay at our resort. We have had many first timers stay with us and one of the reasons they booked was because we are a historic Albert Frey hotel.
"Renting Frank Sinatra's House
It was the city where the Rat Pack partied, Elvis honeymooned and Eisenhower swung the only hole in one of his life. Palm Springs, California's fabled desert oasis, has long been a winter playground for the Hollywood set; the city lies just 100 miles (160 km) east of Los Angeles. But it is also home to an extensive array of beautifully preserved Modernist structures that have turned this golf-and-cocktails resort town into a must-see destination for devotees of architecture.
For several decades in the middle of the 20th century, internationally renowned architects such as Richard Neutra and John Lautner--who is currently the subject of a retrospective at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles--created audacious buildings in Palm Springs that helped revolutionize the way Americans lived and played. Out went stuffy Victorian parlors; in came sleek, glass-walled structures that blurred the line between indoors and out. The bulk of what these architects designed was residential, which meant the only way to see one of the buildings back then was to have Frank Sinatra invite you over for drinks. Today, though, many Modernist homes are available as vacation rentals, including the long, lean, flat-roofed manse that once belonged to the Chairman of the Board himself.
Renting one of these houses can be an intimate way to get to know the city, to see a side of it that can't be found on the noisy pool deck of a chain hotel...
And then there's Twin Palms. The Sinatra estate, designed by local architect E. Stewart Williams in 1946, has four bedrooms, ample areas for entertaining and one very thick shag rug. "You can sit by the piano-shaped pool and sip cocktails from the retro bar," says Kevin Blessing, CEO of Beau Monde Villas, which manages the house..."

Palm Springs Film Festival January 6th to 19th, 2009
Palm Springs is the coolest city for nudists to vacation in. We have such a celebrity history. Even our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa was once a celebrity resort where Marilyn Monroe, Spencer Tracy, Frank Sinatra, Desi & Lucy, and many more celebrities used to stay.
Every January, there is the annual Palm Springs Film Festival which is open to the general public. Last year 122,000 people saw the films.
What is so nice about the Palm Springs film festival is the general public is invited to attend the red carpet galas for the price of an admission.
We have many guests who come here to see the films. They relax, nude sunbathing all day long and see the movies at night. Our guests are always telling us the celebrities that they have seen. And the Palm Springs film festival is much more informal than for instance the Canne film festival in France because Palm Springs is considered the "back yard" of Hollywood, so many directors, producers, actors, and actresses attend the movies even if they themselves aren't in any of the films.
This year the festival will be better tahn ever as it is the 20th anniversary of the Palm Springs Film Festival.
Here is the information about this years show:
"Palm Springs film fest shuffles schedule, to hold gala early in week
Announcements about tickets going on sale for the 20th Palm Springs International Film Festival to be held Jan. 6-19 include the surprise that the Black Tie Awards Gala will not be on the first Saturday of the festival as it has in the past but on Jan. 6. The opening night film will be on Jan. 8.
The awards gala is the most star-studded event of the festival, which screens hundreds of independent and foreign films. In past years, honorees attending have included Brad Pitt, John Travolta, Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Samuel L. Jackson.
Mary Hart will return for the sixth year to host the awards show.
"Opening the festival with the gala we thought would be an exciting way to launch the 20th anniversary," said Harold Matzner, chairman of the Palm Springs International Film Festival Society. "The thinking is the awards show generates a tremendous amount of publicity and attention, and opening with it will create more excitement and coverage..."
"This awards show... It's very well supported... "It has tremendous star power. It's mind-boggling..."
"The festival has grown every year for last eight years. The awards gala is covered by every nationally-syndicated entertainment show," he said. "The festival is hot, the awards gala is hot and it will have a very strong show."
In 2008, a record 122,000 people attended the festival. Some popular passes sell out before the festival opens.
Tickets to the awards gala are $350 or $1,000 for VIP seating. Tables for 10 are $3,500-$15,000.
Tickets to the opening and closing night galas are $50, as are Reel Deal Six Packs (six screenings).
Silver passes are $275 for screenings Jan. 9-13 or Jan. 14-18. Platinum passes are $400 for guaranteed priority seating Jan. 9-19, excluding opening and closing nights and parties.
For high rollers, the Concierge Pass at $1,500 gets reserved seating. The all-inclusive Benefactor pass at $2,500 includes gala events along with reserved seating.
Individual ticket sales will open to the public Dec. 30. For tickets/passes call 760-778-8979; for information call 760-322-2930 or go to http://www.psfilmfest.org "

Indian clothing manufacturer uses blog post to promote their clothing line

I thought this was pretty funny. An Indian clothing manufacturer quotes me from one of my nudist blog posts to help promote their clothing line. I guess they think using the keywords clothing optional will attract more viewers.
Here is the story:
"Monday, September 08, 2008
Of all the articles that I have written, I consider this article of clothing optional to be my best article. Hope you feel the same too.
A clothing optional Article's for Your Viewing
IT Usage in the Apparel Industry
The Indian Apparel and Textile industry is largely fragmented with the largest player having less than 2% of the market share. Apart from contributing the highest net export earnings (16 per cent), it contributes about 14 percent to the total industrial production and 4 percent to the GDP. It is a labour-intensive industry that provides large-scale employment especially for women since it is non-hazardous, thus creating a level-playing field for them in terms of job opportunity. It is the second largest employment provider in India after agriculture. (Annual Report, 2005-2006, Ministry of Textiles).
For an industry of this stature and size, the usage of IT by the Indian apparel industry has been woefully inadequate. North American and European apparel companies spend about 3 to 5% of their revenues on IT. The Indian apparel industry in contrast, has typically invested less than 1%...

Terra Cotta Inn to be featured on Playboy TV August 30th Playboy TV filmed at The Terra Cotta Inn this spring. They did a fantastic job of showing what it is like to vacation at the best nudist resort in the US, our resort The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. The show is very tastefully produced. Playboy makes it very clear that nudist resorts are not sex resorts. They make it clear that nudist resorts are fun places where you get to enjoy life and socialize with others"

Sunday, this nudist blog cracked 50 users via keyword searches
My original nudist blog http://terracottainn.blogspot.com (NSWF) was receiving from 3,000-4,000 viewers per day due to google keyword searches until it got censored about a month ago.
Google decided all the popular nudist blogs that showed simple nudity needed to be censored with a warning page which meant that they could no longer be found by keyword searches. For instance yesterday, although my original blog had been up over 2 years with over 1000 posts, Zero people found that blog via keyword searches.
I started this blog about a month ago with no pictures showing nudity. Yes, it is weird writing a nudist blog not showing pictures of people enjoying life in the nude, but as readers here know, the US in the last 8 years has lost a lot of our basic freedoms found in the Bill of rights including freedom of press. So I had to change the pictures on this blog to no nudity.
Because this blog does not have nude pics, it passes the google censors. I was so excited, yesterday 50 people for the first time read this blog via google keyword searches. This blog is slowly crawling back up in popularity.

Google execs some of the most powerful people in the world according to Vanity Fair Magazine
Vanity Fair Magazine, one of the few magazines I actually read, just came out with their list of the 100 most powerful and influential people in the world.
The google execs of Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and Eric Schmidt come in #3 just being Vladimir Putin and Rupert Murdoch.
I guess when you are that powerful, if you are afraid of the sight of bare breasts and nipples, you have your staffs censor them on the net like what happened to all the popular nudist bloggers and the Eva Mendes ad on Youtube (which google owns).
Here is the top 10:
"1. Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister (new entry)
2. Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. (1)
3. Sergey Brin (3), Larry Page (3), and Eric Schmidt (new entry), Google
4. Steve Jobs, Apple, Disney, and Pixar (2)
5. Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway (5)
6. Jeff Bezos, Amazon (23)
7. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai (new entry)
8. Roman Abramovich, Millhouse Capital (30)
9. Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt, actors, activists (new entry)
10. Al Gore, eco-warrior (19)"

Going to nude beach and skinny dipping on a popular bloggers bucket list

A survey showed about 25% of Americans have been skinny dipping in mixed company. Many times people are too nervous to try a nude beach or to visit a nudist resort first, so they go skinny dipping at a secluded beach for their first topless or nude sunbathing experience.
There is a pretty popular non nudist blog called marcandangel.com that has an Alexa number in the low 50,000's. They just posted a bucket list of things they wanted to do before they had children. One is go skinny dipping and the other is go to a nude beach.
It is interesting that they note these are things they want to do before having kids. I think one of the reasons there aren't a real lot of nudists in their 30's is so many people have kids at that age and they don't want to take them to nudist resorts or nudist campgrounds.
In my opinion one of the bigger reasons nudism has not grown more is that nudist "leaders" insist an making nudism child friendly. If you look at the most popular nudist resorts in the Caribbean, they are all for couples. Our resort is for couples and we are the most popular nudist resort with vacationers in the western US.
This blog shows the thinking of non nudists. And they don't want to go to nude beaches with kids.
Here's the post:
"They say having children changes everything... Responsibility kicks in, compelling you to dedicate a significant portion of your time and attention to the best interests of the little ones. Combine this with the obvious physical and lifestyle limitations that come with age and it seems to me that there are several activities to check off the bucket list before settling down to start a family.
Here’s our list of 70 things to do before having children. For us, it’s simply about conquering as many life experiences as possible. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer.
40. Go skinny dipping in a large body of water at midnight.
67. Bare all on a nude beach"

Eva Mendes - Nudist resorts spokeswoman?

Just imagine how the popularity of nudist resorts would explode if Eva Mendes was a spokeswomen for vacationing at nudist resorts.
Eva, feels very comfortable with nudity. She has constantly said she doesn't understand why Americans are so hung up about the sight of a naked human body and why so many people prefer violence over the beauty nudity.
Part of the problem with the popularity of nudism is it is portrayed in the media as an activity that caters to older people. Andyone who has been to Europe or to our resort, the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa, Palm Springs know this isn't true. We have all ages from their 20's to 70's stay at our hotel just like you would find at a regular hotel like a Marriott, etc.
Eva, is sexy and hip. If nudism had a woman like Eva promoting the fun of topless or nude sunbathing, I predict nudism would explode with popularity.
Eva, produced an ad for Calvin Klein perfumes which was banned on TV because it showed for a fraction of a second one of her bare nipples. And we know how evil nipples are in America. You could say Americans are obsessed with nipples. Look at the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Or for instance, look at John Ashcroft, president Bush's first Attorney General. He covered the bare breasts of the statue of justice in Washington, DC. I guess he did that so that when he talked, reporters would know which boob to pay attention to.
The sight of Eva Mendes's must be very evil. The next thing you know, the Surgeon General is going to issue a warning - the sight of Eva Mendes's niples cause blindness.
It must be true, the way everyone wants to ban her new Calvin Klein video where for a fraction of a second you can see Ms. Mendes's bare nipples.
Although the ad was banned by TV, it had been running on YouTube in its entirety for around a month or so. Well it appears google, the parent company that owns Youtube is also afraid of the sight of bare nipples. About a month ago google, they also own blogger.com, decided to censored all of the popular nudist blogs like this blog. That is why this blog has no pictures showing regular nudist activities. Well I guess the sight of Eva Mendes's bare nipples for even a second is too much for google as they have now banned that Youtube commercial.
First the FCC banned the TV commercial, now Youtube has banned it. What next? Congress passing a law requiring Eva to keep her shirt on for the rest of her life?
Isn't it fun living in a free society like America. You can show as much violence as you like to impressionable little children, but dare to show simple nudity like on NYPD Blue or in this Calvin Klein ad and you have the full force of the government and google coming down against you.
Here is the story:
"Eva Mendes Naked Calvin Klein Commercial Banned (Video)
Eva Mendes naked Calvin Klein commercial got banned on YouTube. Its said to be too naughty for American audiences! Read about it below and see photos and the banned video below.
...Actually, she’s not banned, just her latest Calvin Klein ad got banned. It was taken off YouTube without much of an explanation. Apparently, people complained about an itty-bitty glimpse of a Eva Mendes nipple in the video.
...Of course, the only thing the men watching the video are obsessed with is how the hell they are going to get a screen shot of that nip slip during the video. Hey guys, we’ve got the video here. Watch it all you want. Its just below the jump. Just remember its NSFW."

A nice nudist resort story in a local newspaper in Pennsylvania
I have never been to the Penn Sylvan nudist resort. Their local newspaper did a nice story about them. Here it is
"Camp near Reading barely a refuge for 'naturists'
Hidden in woods among the hilly, green farmland of southern Berks County is a place that hundreds of people think of as a sanctuary.
It's a place where they rid themselves of everyday pressures, a place where clothes are shed as easily as stress and anxiety.
PSHS Inc., formerly known as the Penn Sylvan Health Society, is one of the nation's oldest nudist camps...
The camp is at once a microcosm of the outside world and a way to escape it.
Tom, 56, who lives near Pottstown, put it this way: "We have ministers. We have priests. We have moms. We have kids."
While they speak openly about their lifestyle, most members are cautious about giving a reporter their full names or going into detail about their jobs. They don't want co-workers or customers to know about their clothes-free ways.
"They can't fire me over it, but they can ridicule me," said Joe, who lives outside Philadelphia. "They can maybe not promote me."
...She says organizers realize the outside community is conservative, and they are careful about how and where they advertise.
There aren't many neighbors, but those willing to discuss the camp said they don't mind it at all...
"They're regular people," he said. "They just don't wear clothes."
...Regular visitors become friends but often don't know one another's last names.
Nudists, who sometimes call themselves naturists, say they are usually introduced to nudism by someone they know, and that they seek out places where it's OK to be naked.
They stress that nudism is not about sex.
"If you're completely naked, you're not provocative," Tom said. "You're just naked."
Being nude is a way to eliminate social barriers between people.

Now the one thing I have learned in being interviewed many times is more often then not, reporters get facts wrong.
The one "fact" I question in this story is where it is written new guests hear of the nudist camp mostly through word of mouth. I have found the internet is the best way to get new guests, and next being PR. Word of mouth in the nudist community is excellent for our resort, but outside of the nudist community, guest rarely tell their friends that they like to go nude sunbathing. Just like this story mentions, they are afraid of ridicule. So word of mouth is terrible outside of nudist resorts.
At least the reporter didn't call it a nudist colony.
If this nudist club does not actively promote itself on the internet and they are representative of many other small nudist campgrounds, it then would be no wonder why so many old fashioned nudist campgrounds are not getting many new members.
Now if you want a nice fun vacation where you can go topless or nude sunbathing, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com
