British newspaper columnist writes, "There's nothing wrong with topless sunbathing"

Topless sunbathing has been in the media a lot lately. Especially with last weekend being the National Go Topless protest. Now a female British writer has written a story about how much she enjoys topless sunbathing.

Here's the story:

"There's nothing wrong with topless sunbathing
What’s so wrong with being topless on the beach, asks Bryony Gordon .

Bryony Gordon, Telegraph Columnist

Brigitte Bardot started the trend for topless sunbathing in the sixties.

...When I go on holiday, I like to sunbathe topless. The beach towel goes down, the book comes out, and the bikini top flies off, often in the direction of a startled looking friend who has clearly never seen a pair of breasts before. Seeing as I won’t be using the top to cover my chest, I suggest that instead they use it cover their prudish eyes.

Topless sunbathing is a wonderful thing, a holiday in itself from underwired bras...

A group of Australian politicians tried to ban it in 2008, with one Labour MP, Paul Gibson posing the searching question: “if you’re on the beach, do you want somebody with big knockers next to you when you’re there with the kids?” Well I don’t know Paul - if you positioned yourself right, they might just keep the wind off.

...Here are things I find far more offensive on a beach: speedos; “fashionable” swimming costumes with bits cut out of them; people who go for wees in the sea.

There is a time and a place for topless sunbathing, of course. As a spokesman at Debretts tells me: “You probably don’t want to do it in Battersea park”, and he is right; you want to be many hundreds of miles away from the constraints of your normal life.

Melissa Obadash, a swimwear designer, lived in Italy during her twenties and says she “always sunbathed topless. It was absolutely normal, it is normal. But you can’t do it in America. I once tried on a beach in Miami but the police came over and told me to cover up. I think it’s a bit sad that happens, that they can’t see the body as a natural, beautiful thing.”..

But when, exactly, did we all become such prudes? It seems funny to me that breasts are everywhere you look - on the television, in magazines, on adverts across cities - and yet, when we see a pair in real life, on a real woman, we don’t know where to look. Take the case of the woman who was this week kicked off a bus in Manchester for having the temerity to breastfeed her six-week old son. We have sexualized breasts to the point that we have forgotten what they are there for.

Many believe that the topless sunbather is an exhibitionist, a minx and a strumpet. They are mistaken - mostly, we just don’t like tan lines. And we don’t mind our breasts. Is that such a bad thing?

Join Friends of San Onofre Beach Facebook Page

I just received this and am forwarding it to everyone here.

* * * * * * * *

"Hey Friends Of San Onofre Beach (FOSOB) members!

First, we'd like to thank you all so much for joining our Facebook group. What a fun bunch so far! :)

Second, We're asking you to help us promote the group by suggesting it to all your friends who support nude beaches. And, have them suggest it to their friends, etc, etc. Pass it on, pass it on, pass it on.

The group has grown to 240 members in just a few weeks, and we're sure that the membership will grow significantly in the next few months - hopefully by summer.

Wouldn't it be nice if California's anti-nudity bureaucrats visited our Facebook page this summer and said "Holly cow! I had no idea there was that much support for a nude beach at San Onofre!" ? Well, lets make that happen.

San Onofre is the last legal nude beach in all of Southern California's Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange County coastlines. Not only is San Onofre one of the last undeveloped areas of the coastline, but the remoteness, combined with the fact that there is no pass-through beach traffic - since the clothing optional area dead ends at Camp Pendleton Military Base - makes it unique among all the other beaches along that stretch of coast. San Onofre is simply THE best place to have a clothing optional beach in southern California.

Please help us on our membership drive, so we can reach as many people as possible to help us all protect San Onofre's clothing optional area.

Here's the public link to the Friends Of San Onofre Beach (Official) group:

Thanks in advance! See you all online! Have a great day! :)

ps: Feel free to participate in the group comments."

San Onofre was a great nude beach. I hope nudists get to use it again nude.

A protest for Topless rights in America August 23rd

So many people in America are afraid of the sight of a woman baring her breast in public especially at a beach much less a topless beach.

Now it is deemed OK for a woman to be topless if she is paid millions of dollars by Sports Illustrated to do so. Or if she is paid to model and sell cars, clothes, magazines or something else, or but the idea that a woman would ENJOY topless sunbathing scares the pants off of so many people (pun intended).

Now gotopless.org will be holding a topless protest on August 23rd.

Here's the story:

"A Fight for the Right to Bare Boobs

...In January, U.S.-based GoTopless.org organized a topless protest at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Up until recently, nudity was illegal except on designated beaches, but local councils considered bare breasts acceptable.

However, a Christian fundamentalist politician, Rev. Fred Nile, introduced legislation in the parliament of New South Wales that would prohibit women from going topless on all beaches.

In response, topless women gathered on the Bondi Beach in protest, arguing that women's breasts are not offensive and should be considered just as natural as men's chests.

Now that battle is moving to the 'States. In eight participating cities—including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami—topless women and men will gather and peacefully rally on Sunday, August 23, "to protest the gross inequality in the law and will demand that they be granted the fundamental right to be topless where men already enjoy that right...

The Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment states that "no state shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws". The GoTopless.org Movement states that this Clause defends citizens from "gender-based differential treatment."

Therefore, if a man can go topless, so can a woman.

... "The aim is to convey that the sight of a top free women [sic] in public is as natural as the sight of top free men."

For more information, visit http://gotopless.org/ (Not-Safe-for-Work Warning: As can be expected, the website features photos and video of women's bare breasts.)"

Nude Beach goers at San Onofre to get tickets after labor Day

So much for people thinking we live in a democracy here in California.

San Onofre nude beach has been a nude beach for almost 50 years. Then last year a dictator of "moral values" took over as the head (but obviously not brains) of the states Parks department. Obviously she has major issues with nudity and people enjoying themselves while nude sunbathing.

She declared San Onofre Nude Beach illegal to go nude sunbathing. Naturists sued. They won in the lower courts, but lost in the court of appeals. Now they are deciding whether to appeal to the California Supreme Court.

This is a very popular nude beach. It is the most popular one at the San Onofre area. In a poll that was on the San Clemente Times website (before the results were taken down) it was over 80% of people were in favor of the nude beach.

So much for us being a democracy. It's sad here in America that one nasty politician with power can undo 50 years of public use of a nude beach.

Here is the story:

"Bare beach goers at Trail 6 in San Onofre State Beach will get away with a warning through the summer.

State officials said they plan to educate the public at the traditionally clothing-optional beach about the new ban -- posting signs and verbally warning state park visitors through Labor Day weekend.

"After that time, appropriate enforcement action will be taken including citation and arrest if necessary," said Ken Kramer, district superintendent of the Orange Coast District. The citation fine is unclear because it's ultimately determined by the courts, Kramer said.

At the same time, a group of nudists who want to keep it clothing-optional at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach are considering appealing their case to the state's Supreme Court after they lost the latest legal wrangling...

"Apparently, they are happy to collect the significant revenue Trail 6 generates in day use fees," Baylis said of the citation delay...

Their decision overturned a lower court's decision in which an Orange County Superior Court judge ruled that the Cahill Policy is indeed a regulation and that state Department of Parks and Recreation violated procedure when they adopted a nudity ban without first seeking public feedback...

It will be sad if it closes. We have many guests from the midwest and east coast come out here in the summer and spend Sunday nights thru Friday nights at our resort in Palm Springs and go to San Onofre on Saturday and Sunday to go nude sunbathing at the beach, so they can have a beach experience. Now they won't suffer as they will just spend the whole week at our resort, but there staying there I'm sure brought in a lot of revenue to that area as the nude beach is the post popular beach in that whole state park.

Too bad the idiots at the state Parks department don't open their eyes to see how Haulover Beach became the most popular beach in Miami because it is a nude beach. They could also look to Palm Springs where they would see that our nude resort, The Terra Cotta Inn has had the highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in Palm Springs in the summertime for over the last 10 years.

So if you are looking for a fun, relaxing vacation, give us a call at 800-786-6938.

San Onofre nude beach will be closed if naturists don't win court battle

I have had a few people say to me that they bet I am happy that San Onofre nude beach down by San Diego County may be closed by the state. They said "more business for me."

That is so untrue. Only about 15% of our business comes from Southern California as we're the ONLY nudist resort west of the Mississippi that caters to couples on vacation. Southern Californians normally just want to book us only on Saturday nights like typical nudist resorts, where guests from around the world like to book us 7 days a week. That's why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

We have had lots of guests who have booked us Sunday thru Thursday nights and then go to San Onofre for the weekends when it has nude sunbathers.

Lots of people like nude beaches, so I am sad if it is not reopened to nudists.

Here is the story:

"Naturists lose court battle to keep O.C. beach nude
Group says it will likely appeal to California Supreme Court in case involving San Onofre

A group of nudists who want to keep San Onofre State Beach's Trail 6 a clothing-optional beach have lost their latest legal battle, after a panel of justices at the 4th District Court of Appeal ruled that a policy that addresses nudity at state beaches is invalid.

The ruling favored state officials who last spring decided to crack down on a more than 20-year tradition of nude sunbathing at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach.

Huntington Beach attorney Allen Baylis, who led the fight against the ban, said the Naturist Action Committee will likely appeal their case to the state's Supreme Court.

"It's time for the (Department of Parks and Recreation) to realize that one of the reasons San Onofre has so many visitors is that there's a very popular clothing-optional beach there," Baylis said. "The people who visit Trail 6 pay their admission fees and buy their annual passes, which contribute a significant amount of money to the department and the local economy."

...Officials said the naturists have to adhere to a code in state law called nudity prohibited, which states that "no person shall appear nude while in any unit except in authorized areas set aside for that purpose by the department."

...Stearns also said the new superintendant's decision to ban nudity at the beach came after an increase in complaints about the influx of people to the area in recent years, stating that the area is no longer remote.

Some in the naturist community disagree, however..."

I hope the California Supreme Court is more enlightened then the court of appeals.

Australian council rejects nudist beach

Queensland, Australia council rejects nudist beach

In Queensland, Australia in the town of Townsville, their council rejected a written request from residents asking for a nude beach. The reason given, had "more important" things to do than to worry about their citizens.

Here is the story:

"A QUEENSLAND council has rejected an approach from residents to establish the state's first nudist beach.

Townsville mayor Les Tyrell had received a written request from residents to establish a beach in the north Queensland city.

However, he said the request had been rejected because the council had "more important things to worry about''.

"I indicated to them that we had a whole lot of other priorities on the agenda,'' Mr Tyrell said.

Mr Tyrell said he could not imagine a suitable location in the area for a nudist beach to be established and the council was unlikely to look at the issue in the future.

"Unless there was a large community request for it, we wouldn't consider it."...

For the full story click here

It is too bad that the council didn't really spend the time to investigate how positive nude beaches really are. Look at Haulover Beach nude beach. It went from being a filthy eyesore to the most popular beach in Miami.

Another good example is the popularity of nudist resorts. here in Palm Springs, we have the 2nd highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in palm Springs, only the Indian casino hotel is busier.

Nudism is good business if properly run. It is too bad this council couldn't see that.

Nudist beach vacations - Should you try one?

A person writes an article, should you consider vacationing at a nudist beach?

I liked his answer, "just let go and enjoy yourself." Too many people are too repressed. The old saying when in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Europe everyone should at least try topless sunbathing if not nude sunbathing. You'll se, it's lots of fun.

The other thing the writer mentions is vacationing at nudist beaches is very romantic. Guests always tell us that they have their most romantic vacations ever at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.

Here is the article:

"Considering an Outdoor Vacation?

When you go on summer vacation, often you can be faced with the dilemma of whether to try out the local nudist beach or not. On one hand you want to just let go and enjoy yourself on your holiday, yet on the other hand the prospect of going on a nudist beach can be quite daunting.

Should You Consider a Nudist Beach?

If you are travelling with adults then there is no reason why you should not go on a nudist beach. It doesn’t matter whether you are a couple or a group of friends, going on a nudist beach can be a really uplifting experience and it is certainly not something that you should feel ashamed or embarrassed about. If you are going with a partner then you may find that going on a nudist beach can be a particularly romantic experience...

Overall if you are planning an outdoor vacation which will include a nudist beach, then you will find that there are plenty of options open to you. As well as experiencing a nudist beach, you can also experience the culture and history of different countries too. So if you are thinking of going on a nudist beach then you should easily be able to find something to suit you.

Nude beaches - Too much for kids?

A brave district council in New Zealand unanimously voted to approved a nude beach at Kapiti Coast.

Now all the "what about the kids" prudes are coming out of the woodwork.

First there will be signs where the nude beach is located. 10 year old kids don't go to the beach by themselves. They go with their parents. If the parents don't want to go to the nude beach they don't have to. there is plenty of other beaches to go to.

Next, kids love nude beaches. Go to Europe and you will see how much fun they have.

I will bet never once have these prudes ever been to an official nude beach. They are just fear mongers.

Here is the story:

"Beach nudity 'too much for kids'

Kapiti Coast District Council has come under fire for considering allowing nudity on its beaches.

The council regulatory management committee's unanimous endorsement of a staff recommendation to allow nudity along the 45-kilometre coastline - unless nudists' behaviour is deemed offensive or lewd - has brought strong criticism from a family-oriented lobby group and some residents.

Elaine Watson, who has a six-year-old son, said she did not object to restricted nudity areas, which could be avoided.

"I am not too worried about topless sunbathing but full nudity is a bit much for young kids. I would not be happy with them wandering willy-nilly along the beach..."

"The protection of families and the welfare of children has been cast aside in favour of so-called freedom of expression," national director Bob McCoskrie said.

Families stayed clear of nude beaches for a good reason, he said.

"They do not want their children being confronted by naked men and women.

"The rights of nudists to `hang loose' should not be at the expense of families feeling embarrassed or offended.

"It is completely inappropriate for children to be confronted with naked adults walking past or sunbathing."

"...It is clear from our legal advice that bylaws against nakedness are vulnerable in that they breach the Bill of Rights Act and recent case law says merely being naked does not make a person liable of causing an offence," Ms Rowan said.

"Lewd and offensive behaviour is a matter that is more appropriate for the police and they have the powers to act against it..."

"There have been people choosing to sunbathe naked from time to time and we have not received complaints," he said...

It is a refreshing change that in an English speaking country, politicians voted to do the right thing instead of caving in to the right wing extremists.

What is also interesting to note is one of the woman interviewed said she was OK with topless sunbathing. I have always found that once women are comfortable with topless sunbathing, it is only a matter of time before they start to enjoy nude sunbathing. That is why we are one of the few nudist resorts in America that allow women to just topless sunbathe at our resort, because they always end up nude sunbathing by the end of their vacations.

Going to nude beach and skinny dipping on a popular bloggers bucket list

A survey showed about 25% of Americans have been skinny dipping in mixed company. Many times people are too nervous to try a nude beach or to visit a nudist resort first, so they go skinny dipping at a secluded beach for their first topless or nude sunbathing experience.

There is a pretty popular non nudist blog called marcandangel.com that has an Alexa number in the low 50,000's. They just posted a bucket list of things they wanted to do before they had children. One is go skinny dipping and the other is go to a nude beach.

It is interesting that they note these are things they want to do before having kids. I think one of the reasons there aren't a real lot of nudists in their 30's is so many people have kids at that age and they don't want to take them to nudist resorts or nudist campgrounds.

In my opinion one of the bigger reasons nudism has not grown more is that nudist "leaders" insist an making nudism child friendly. If you look at the most popular nudist resorts in the Caribbean, they are all for couples. Our resort is for couples and we are the most popular nudist resort with vacationers in the western US.

This blog shows the thinking of non nudists. And they don't want to go to nude beaches with kids.

Here's the post:

"They say having children changes everything... Responsibility kicks in, compelling you to dedicate a significant portion of your time and attention to the best interests of the little ones. Combine this with the obvious physical and lifestyle limitations that come with age and it seems to me that there are several activities to check off the bucket list before settling down to start a family.

Here’s our list of 70 things to do before having children. For us, it’s simply about conquering as many life experiences as possible. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer.

40. Go skinny dipping in a large body of water at midnight.
67. Bare all on a nude beach"
