Do you have ideas for fun, big events to promote nude recreation?

AANR has a new President, Susan Weaver. She's a great person and I look forward to nude recreation growing under her guidance.

I am on the AANR West and National PR committees. We are looking for fun PR events that can be staged hopefully nationwide, but it's OK if it's not nation wide as long as it has good and positive PR potential.

The Guinness World record Skinny dip and this Guinness nude roller coaster ride are 2 good fun examples of positive PR events.

I'm asking people, if you have ideas, let me know. You can leave comments here. You can personally e-mail me at tom@sunnyfun.com or you can call me at 800-786-6938. Just ask for Tom. I'll be happy to talk.

Here's the story on the Guinness record setting naked roller coaster ride:

"Hair-raising ... naked thrill-seekers on ride

The big stripper

MORE than 100 thrill-seekers rode a roller coaster naked, smashing the world record.

The 102 butt-naked adrenaline junkies let it all hang out as they took on the swerves and loops of the fairground ride to raise £22,000 for breast cancer research...

Senior Fundraising Manager at Bosom Pals, Barbara Warner said: "It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of 102 complete strangers, plus the world's media - so we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash more than £22,000 - for our vitally important cause."

I look forward to hearing your ideas. Tom

Nudism is starting to embrace social media

I just got back from the AANR West Board of directors meeting. I am the pr chair. AANR West started a twitter account in August. We are now going to start a Facebook account. The boards aim it to embrace social media as much as possible so that members and potential guests of nudist resorts can contact us as easily as possible.

The NY Times just had an article on businesses using Facebook. Here it is:

"Business owner, you might want to friend Facebook.

Identify a short list of goals before you begin.

Show some personality in your page.

Don't shill. Use your page to engage-and trust that sales will follow.

Use Facebook data to analyze your customer demographics.

A growing number of businesses are making Facebook an indispensable part of hanging out their shingles. Small businesses are using it to find new customers, build online communities of fans and dig into gold mines of demographic information.

“You need to be where your customers are and your prospective customers are,” said Clara Shih, author of “The Facebook Era” (Pearson Education, 2009). “And with 300 million people on Facebook, and still growing, that’s increasingly where your audience is for a lot of products and services.”

...Facebook offers an array of tools and networks, and it’s easy to wander down too many paths. Ms. Shih recommends that newcomers start by asking themselves a simple question: What is your basic objective? Is it getting more customers in the door? Building brand awareness? Creating a venue for customer support? Once you have set your goal, you can strategize accordingly.

...You can enliven your page with photos, comments and useful information. As you grow more comfortable, you can add videos or business applications. Flaunt your personality. The page of an ice cream parlor should feel different than that of a funeral parlor. “The pages that are most successful,” said Tim Kendall, the director of monetization at Facebook, “are the ones that really replicate the personality of the business.”

Aim at Potential Customers Only

...“I’d be out of business if I didn’t have Facebook,” Mr. Meyer said. “Especially with this economy, I need to stretch each marketing dollar as much as I possibly can.”

Facebook enables small businesses to engage in targeted marketing that they only could have dreamed about a few years ago. Facebook users fill out profiles with information like hometown, employer, religious beliefs, interests, education and favorite books, movies and TV shows — all of which can help advertisers deliver messages to specific demographic slices.

...“Be patient with it,” Mr. Nelson advised. “People are not going to flock to your social media site overnight. Technology is about the network effect. It takes time for those connections to build.”

England may finally recognize that nudists are discriminated against

PR is fantastic in the marketing of nudist resorts, as is the internet like this blog. However, one of the worst ways for nudist resort marketing is word of mouth. Yes, when you vacation at a nudist resort all people talk about is what nudist resorts they have vacationed at however, outside the nudist resorts, no word of mouth.

So many of our guests tell us their best vacations ever are at our resort. And then when we ask "how many non nudists have you told about our place," 95% of our guests say none. They are too afraid to admit they are nudists.

I have always said being a nudist today is like being gay back in the 1960's. You have to be in the closet for your own safety. Now some places like Palm Springs, it is very accepted. I was even the campaign treasurer for one of our city council members and was elect the president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Yet, if I was to try to teach school, I wonder would I have a hard time getting a job admitting I was a nudist?

In England they are starting to realize the discrimination against nudists.

Here is the story:

"The Government Equalities Office, overseen by Labour’s deputy leader, ranks the prejudice faced by those who wish to go naked wherever possible as equivalent to that experienced by homosexuals, ethnic minorities and the elderly.

A recent review into discrimination includes a submission written by British Naturism, which was selected for display on the website of the equalities office alongside work by Stonewall, the gay rights group, Age Concern and the Runnymede Trust, which campaigns for racial equality.

“Naturists encounter prejudice in employment,” it reads.

“This is a particular problem for people in the caring professions and education...

There is a thriving industry devoted to naturism in Britain, including more than 100 naturist-friendly campsites and a selection of luxury cruises where clothing is optional...

British Naturism has 16,000 members but claims there could be 1.2m naturists in the country, with many choosing to cover up their hobby.

Now it is urging the Government and other authorities to make “affirmative statements” in favour of naturism.

Andrew Welch, commercial manager of British Naturism, said the type of discrimination suffered by naturists today was similar to that endured by gay people before the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967...

“The presumption of many in society that a person without clothes is always up to no good is archaic and discriminatory.”

It would really be cool if England was the first major government to speak up positively about nudism. Here in Palm Springs, we are highly thought of by our local government because we have such a high occupancy rate, but that is just small town politics, not national politics.

I wish British Naturism good luck with their cause.

Now if you want to try topless or nude sunbathing for the first time, feel free giving us a call at 800-786-6938.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time. You don't even have to be a nudist to vacation with us.

Australian Swinger party backfires

There is an Australian so called nudist resort (I find it hard to believe that they really operate like a nudist resort). They announced a couple of months ago that their sales from nudists were way down, so this month they were going to be a sex club.

That's why I find it hard to believe that they were ever a real nudist resort since they are through a month long sex party.

As I have always said, nudists and swingers do not mix. You need to cater to one of the other. Otherwise you get an explosive mixture.

There was an incident at the club that made international news. Here's the story:

"Swingers sex party argy-bargy

...What organisers must have thought would be a national publicity coup has turned into a coup d’ etat, and now the public face of what sounded like a kinky idea on the page has become a very sleazy reality.

One of the more rotund middle-aged male swingers who was trying to enjoy the views at the week-long north Queensland sex-a-thon-sans-phones (without paying with his clothes) has created a mini-riot after four women confronted him about his refusal to show some skin (what the hell were they thinking?)

If you look at a photo of Mr Harrison you might understand his reluctance but the funny thing about all this is after a few weeks of epic free publicity the organisers have now seen there media-savvy promo idea explode in their faces? What worse promotion for the nudist colony can there be than a photograph of Mr Harrison accompanied with a news story detailing his behaviour...

Hardly the kind of national publicity the nudist colony marketing masterminds were hoping for when they first sold the story to the newspapers, eh?"

For the full story click here

This place did receive tons of national publicity for their sleazy party. It is too bad that real nudist businesses that really care about their customers can't get the same type of pr.

Now most of the stories about this lists the place as a nudist resort. This is the post I have seen that lists the party as to what it really was, a swinger sex party.

Calling a sex club a nudist resort, will give people the wrong idea as to what really goes on at nice nudist resorts.

Now if you want a nice relaxing safe and fun vacation at America's most mainstream nudist resort, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call. We are NOT a swinger resort, so you will have lots of fun at our resort.

Playboy nudist resorts and nudists

In February, Playboy TV did a show at our resort the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. They picked us as the BEST nudist resort in the US. To see the NSFW version of this post go to: Click here for NSWF Playboy blog post version

They featured us as they wanted the most mainstream nudist resort in the US. And it helped that we cater to first timers. They did not want a wild place, but a place where you could relax and have fun in the nude. And of course they didn't want kids like you would find at typical nudist resorts.

Playboy also picked us because we were a clothing optional resort. Playboy knows that to be successful, you have to have a nudist resort that is friendly for women. Women in particular are nervous their first time. Many think they will ease into nude sunbathing by going topless first (and some do). However, our experience is once women are here, they feel so safe and relaxed, they immediately go nude for their whole vacation. However, if we were nudity mandatory like at most nudist resorts in the US, the women never book with us.

Playboy has done a lot for promoting the freedom of enjoying life in the nude. They are a double edge sword. Yes, they pander to men and have made many woman feel insecure because they are not photo shopped like the models, yet they also give the message that it is OK to enjoy life in the nude and be free.

Overall, I think Playboy has helped the nudist movement more than hurt it. Also years ago there was a story at about Paradise Lakes in Playboy magazine. The owner said that PR piece brought in more first timers than any other pr piece they had had at that point.

Finally, those who have seen the Playboy TV show about our resort have said it is the most wholesome and well done nudist show they ahve ever seen. Playboy and their producer Kira reed did a great job. Kira reed has actually been a friend of ours for many years.

Here is a story about Playboy:

They had a couple stay at our resort, where it was their first

"Playboy will see you now

...Just as if she were visiting her dentist or pet groomer, a lady must make an appointment to attend a Playboy casting call. Potential nudists generally sign up online and pay about $50 to secure their time in front of the lens. The audition fee turns out to be a wise move in terms of efficiency. Jeff Cohen, a VP for Playboy Special Editions and the man at the wheel of the Jacksonville casting, explained the price is just steep enough to weed out no-shows and ensure a more dedicated talent pool. As in, if American Idol ever wanted to cut those early-season train wreck episodes, they could start charging $50 to audition.

... Most have traveled great distances for a chance to cross "pose for Playboy" off their bucket lists. Christine Placona, a porcelain darling with her super-blond hair done up country like Reese Witherspoon's in Walk the Line drove up from south of Palatka. Girls report from Tampa, Virginia, Georgia and Mississippi.

No matter their origins, all ladies are clearly nervous, and it's the only time I've seen 20 attractive girls sit silently in a room, a scenario I never would have imagined possible. The clothed ladies hunker over paperwork, while the robed ones fidget, flip through the girlie mags from the goody bags and fuss with makeup.

The other common factor is the answer given when I ask girls what inspired them to come out and pose: It's been a dream since I first found my dad's stash when I was (insert age). Kelli Motes, a WingHouse girl from Bradenton, puts the cutest spin on the response: "I've been looking for the bunny on the cover since I was 13."

Cohen and I opined at length about why first impressions of Playboy are so powerful. He's heard thousands of women over his decades with Playboy cite their first encounter and deem it a life-changing one...

... "Wow! That was so much easier than I thought it would be!" is the go-to summation from ladies leaving their session.

For the full story click here

It is interesting where the women said posing was life changing. We have found first time nudists say the say thing. So many women for the first time in their lives have said they now feel comfortable with their bodies and who they are. It seems posing for Playboy and vacationing at a nudist resort have a lot in common.

If you have always wanted to vacation at a clothing optional resort, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!
