The Emmy award winning TV Show The Doctors discusses Nude Recreation Friday

The Doctors TV show is shown nationally in the US and Canada. Tomorrow, Friday, February 18th they will air a segment called "The Naked Truth About your Health."

Their promo says:

"The Naked Truth about Your Health

It’s time to get comfortable in your own skin and uncover the truth about your body. Learn the risks and benefits of hot tub skinny dipping, take a peak into the lifestyle of a nudist couple and discover which foods help you look better naked!"

The risk they mentioned was people with high blood pressure should not spend much time in a hot tub, which is good advice. Our segment was very positive.

Here is the link: http://www.thedoctorstv.com/main/show_page/D3099 To find what time it airs in your town, click here: http://www.thedoctorstv.com/main/local_listings

Tom and I were guests on the show. Our segment was filmed for about 15 minutes which will be edited to maybe 4-5 minutes. So we anxiously are looking forward to see how they edit our segment. We were invited on the show as the experts about nudist resorts since our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs is so popular.

During the show, one doctor admitted going to nudist resorts in the Caribbean, and all 4 doctors said "skinny dipping, yes!"

Now the part in the promo about the couple throwing off their clothes from behind the sofa was not part of the original filming. it will be interesting if anything "else" is added.

Hopefully those parts will be included in the show.

I hope everyone enjoys it.

Shades of Facebook - Almost every single photo on my blog has been deleted last night

Shades of Facebook. I woke up this morning and found almost every single photo has been deleted on this blog.

Now with this blog, I have never shown frontal nudity only implied nudity. As a few picture without people were left up, it is as if a google employee went through every post here with a hatchet and cut out the photos to censure this blog.

Very, very bizarre.

Of course it would be nice if someone from google would have e-mailed me about this situation.

Should Nipple piercings be banned at nudist resorts? - Give us your opinion

A woman named Felicity has started a nudist blog called, Young Naturists America. She just wrote a post about nipple piercings that I thought was pretty interesting.

Her blog post is titled: "Nipple Piercings and Dinosaurs."

She talks about Rock Lodge, NJ nudist club and how they have a policy that bans nipple jewelry.

From the Rock Lodge website: "Body Jewelry. At present, genital and nipple jewelry are not allowed. Prior to arrival at Rock Lodge, please ensure that any genital jewelry is removed and that any nipple jewelry is either removed or covered."

Felicity writes: "Those who supported the rule argued that nipple piercings don't belong in a family-oriented nudist club; that it draws attention to areas nudists aren't trying to draw attention to, i.e. the breasts; that nipple piercings are sexual and associated with the swinger atmosphere (ridiculous). On the other hand, proponents of change argued that nudism is about open acceptance of people as they are and allowing them to express themselves."

She further writes: "nipple piercings are becoming a lot more common these days among young people, and I have a few friends who have them who might say, "Rock Lodge is nice, BUT what's with this stupid rule?" I think the club would do better to cut out a rule that would exclude or discourage younger people from joining, those who'd keep the place alive."

For her full interesting blog post Click here

We have guests from their 20's to 70's that stay with us. Although most people do not have pierced nipples, some do. We have had 20 year old guests and 70 year old guests with nipple piercings. We have never had a guest complain about the nipple jewelry.

Piercings have to do with fashion not morals. In the 1800's, it was fashionable for women to have pierced ears. Then in the Victorian era, it was considered risque and only poor or "loose" women had pierced ears as clip ons became the rage. As late as the 1950's, women were considered "slutty" if they had pierced ears. Then Hollywood changed it in the 1960's as female movie stars got pierced ears and no one gives it any thought after that.

I remember in the 1980's almost no nudist resorts allowed nipple piercings. then as pierced nipples started to slowly catch on, more and more nudist resorts like ours allowed them.

The same was true about shaving genitals. In the early 80's no one shaved, now most Americans, nudist and non nudists alike shave or trim their genital area.

Now of course all businesses have the right to make their own policies on the issue concerning nipple jewelry. But is banning it a smart business move?

Personally I see no big deal with nipple jewelry.

What's your opinion?

Right a comment here and let everyone know.

Facebook needs an 18+ policy There's too much stupid censorship

The above topless photo is Patty, our manager at Terra Cotta Inn. This photo was our Facebook resort web page photo for Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa here: http://bit.ly/TerraCottaInnFBPage

A few months ago this photo was taken down by Facebook warning us that they do not allow nudity, and if we persisted, they would delete our account. Now you see more nudity in spa ads in The Los Angeles Times, etc., but don't try to argue common sense with Facebook. Also I see more nudity on Spa pages in Facebook. But, since those spas are not nudist, it's OK.

A fan of the popular Australian singer Kylie Minogue posted a photo on Facebook. I don't know on what Faacebook page it went on. The photo was taken down for "nudity." Here's the story:

"An innocent picture of singer Kylie Minogue with a teddy bear was censored by Facebook for being 'nude', all because she was holding her microphone near his nether regions. CLICK HERE FOR THE KYLIE MINOGUE TEDDY BEAR PHOTO

From the picture taken on stage at London's G-A-Y club, Minogue, 42, can be seen sporting a big smile on her face as she hugged the oversized bear, the Daily Telegraph reported.

A fan posted the snap on Facebook but the site's censors quickly took it down, explaining, "we do not allow photos that contain nudity"..."

For the full story, Click here

I have only followed Kylie's career a little as I know she is a breast cancer survivor. that changed her life. She's said "I experienced a world of illness and positive attitudes. These experiences contributed to making me a more mature person." She is also a very fun loving person as you can see in the photo.

As you can see, it's a fun photo with NO NUDITY. Facebook needs to have an 18+ rule. Google does with blogspot. This blog shows no frontal nudity, and our sister blog at http://terracottainn.blogspot.com has frontal nudity and has an 18+ warning. Flickr owned by yahoo has an 18+ section for frontal nudity.

Our Facebook page and my facebook account is set up 18+ as I don't want to have to deal with teenage boys on my Facebook account. So it would be very easy to do.

Facebook, it's time to become an adult instead of a prude. You already have 18+ in effect, let people over 18 post photos like the Kylie Minogue photo and simple nudity photos. It's 2010 not 1910. It's time to act mature towards the human body and adult humor.

Terra Cotta Inn Discounted rooms for the Palm Springs Film Festival

As readers all know, our resort The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa is one of the best value hotels in ALL of the Palm Springs area. Nude sunbathers are lucky as they get to stay at such a great priced hotel.

And in January, we have our annual room sale on Sunday - Thursdays of stay one night, the 2nd is half priced. So for instance, if you booked for a Monday and Tuesday your rate would be $223.50 or only $111.75/night including breakfast and afternoon snacks, early check in at 10am and late check out at 5pm.

Today the Los Angeles Times had a blog post about "special rates" for the Palm Springs Film Festival. All of the places they quoted were more expensive than our resort. One of the places has a "discount" rate of $295/night.

Not only are we more affordable, we are more luxurious than many of the recommended places. We have top of the line king sized beds, state of the art salt water system heated pool and jacuzzi, free wifi, pool side heaters, in room coffee, dvd players, and more.

It is so hard to convince the mainstream press that one of the BEST hotels and BEST VALUE hotels in Palm Springs also happens to be a clothing optional resort. Some of the press still think of nudist resorts as a nudist colony out in the woods. Well, we have nothing in common with the nudist colonies of olden days. We are better than most boutique hotels and resorts. We are also the most mainstream nudist resort in America and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Our local city magazine, Palm Springs Life Magazine knows all of the hotels in Palm Springs. They have been publishing for over 50 years. In their December 2009, Best of the Best issue, they selected 3 hotels as the TOP boutique hotels in town. We were one of the hotels that was selected (we were #2). It's too bad that the Los Angeles Times decided to exclude one of the best hotels in Palm Springs in their blog post just because we're clothing optional.

Sadly people will over pay staying at textile hotels where they would have had a much better time staying at our clothing optional resort. MSNBC in November had a TV segment called "5 reasons to bare it all on your next vacation." They told people clothing optional resorts were much better values than textile hotels and even named Terra Cotta Inn one of the 2 best deal nudist resorts in the US.

So this post is letting the media know that people can come to the Terra Cotta Inn go topless and nude sunbathing all day long and see some of the best movies at the Palm Springs film festival in the evening. And we are a lot better value than the places you are recommending.

Interesting nudist article from 1962

I've always felt that for American nudism to be more accepted by the general public, it has to be competitive with textile resorts in amenities and prices. That's why we have always targeted our resort as affordable luxury.

And when the press does take tours of our place they ALWAYS comment that we are one of the nicest of ALL hotels in Palm Springs. We're proud knowing that nudists get to stay in one of the nicest hotels of all hotels in Palm Springs.

Now on the naturist library blog I found an article basically saying what I've been saying. And it is from 1962!

Here's the article:

"NUDISM NEEDS TO COME OUT OF THE WOODS
We hear and read frequently made statements that "nudism has come out of the woods," but has it?...

...There are still far too many clubs in which even the thinking behind the effort needs to "come out of the woods" before the clubs, themselves, can have any hope of getting out of the woods and away from the all too rustic setting and accommodations offered to the members and potential members. All too often the word "rustic" is being used as a crutch upon which to lean in a defense of what is plainly inadequate facilities.

Nudism has reached the place in its progress toward acceptance when many people are being attracted to it who have no desire to be required to become pioneers at the same time. They have every right to feel that after some thirty years on the American scene, nudism should have something more to offer than a camping area and outdoor sanitary facilities. Yet there is a surprisingly large number of nudist clubs, and we use the words loosely, which offer little more.

Eastern clubs, as well as other clubs attracting members from the larger cities, are in particular need to modernize, to offer these new people to nudism something more than primitive accommodations. It is necessary they be offered something in the line of more modern accommodations and facilities...They have every right to expect such facilities, and, in the main, are perfectly willing to pay for them. They are not willing to pay for them and not receive them...

Norval E. Packwood (1902-81)
ASA Executive Director (1950-61)
(Source: The Nudist Newsletter, No. 130, November, 1962)

For the full article click here

All nudist resorts are ambassadors for nude recreation. If you go to a restaurant and don't like the food, you don't go back to that one restaurant. It doesn't mean you never eat in a restaurant again.

Yet, for first timers, if their first experience is bad, odds are they will never try nude recreation again.

I'm glad many nudist places have upgraded their facilities. That will hope grow nude recreation.

One out of every four pageviews on the internet are on Facebook

Wow, Facebook is becoming a thousand pound gorilla of web traffic. One out of every 4 pageviews is a facebook pageview. That's BIG!!! More and more businesses are marketing through Facebook. Nudists need to get a better presence there too.

Nudiarist, who writes the best nudism blog showed the amount of traffic that nudists sites get in his blog post here: click here

He rightly commented:

"It's interesting to see how the national organizations fare so poorly when compared to commercial sites like Clothes Free International, blogs like mine, and the social networking sites. It's clear that AANR and TNS have let the Internet get away from them. AANR is trying with their blog and forum, but they are still woefully behind sites that do a much better job."

Here's the article about facebook's popularity:

"I was reading an article the other day that revealed Facebook in the UK accounts for 1 in every 7 pages viewed on the Internet. I thought wow, I knew Facebook was big but did not realize it was that big. Then I wondered what this statistic is in the US..."

In the UK, Facebook accounts for 15% of the total pageviews (or 1 in 7). In the US Facebook accounts for, now get this, 1 in every 4 or 25% of our total pageviews. Unbelievable!

Google on the other hand accounts for only 8% of the total pageviews (or 1 in 12)..."

For the full article click here

Now the article says facebook is more engaging, people play games there like farmville, mafia wars, etc. that use up pageviews. But still facebook is a major heavy weight on the internet.

So how has nudism done on facebook? AANR's site has 820 fans. TNS has 683 fans. Myself, I have 815 friends and The Terra Cotta Inn resort page has 514 fans. Skinbook has 1912 fans, Angye Fox the marketing person at Caliente has 1634 friends, and Cypress Cove has 142 fans.

Those are pretty pathetic numbers for nudism, even for me. My twitter account is almost 2500 followers.

Now maybe it is hard to get fans and friends on facebook and that is why the National nudist organizations have so little. Are people afraid to join as facebook is public and others will see that they are fans of nudism? That could be.

But then twitter is public too where everyone can see who you follow. And I have almost 2500 followers there. And on facebook there is a fan page called Sleeping Naked. It has 147,757 fans. That's right almost 150,000 fans and it is a persons page, not an organization. So obviously not everyone is afraid to say they enjoy doing something naked.

As I said, nudism is pathetic on facebook.

Oh well now that we know, time to do better.

If you want a fun vacation, now is the perfect time to vacation at a clothing optional resort. Give us, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938.

6 Tips for successful nudist blogs

I have been blogging now for over 3 years. With both of my blogs, this one and the NSFW version Click here for NSFW version I get a lot of e-mails and comments. About 1000-1500 users per day see my blog.

In talking with new guests of our resort The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa, Palm Springs, CA, most have read our blog which go them interested in taking a vacation at our resort.

If you are thinking of doing a blog whether on nudism or some other topic, I thought this post was helpful. Here it is:

6 Tips for Customizing Your Small Business Blog

If you’re like most socially-savvy companies, your business probably has a blog. It’s a great way to connect with your customers, announce new products, and provide a human face to your company’s image...

A Few Key Tips

1. Install some top blog plugins:... While there are tens of thousands of plugins available on multiple platforms, a business blog should focus on search engine optimization (SEO), making the blog load faster, and making it easy for others to share blog posts via email, Twitter, and other social networks...

2. Integrate social media links and buttons: Don’t be afraid to integrate Facebook and Twitter on a business blog. It’s a standard practice and will help drive new visitors to your blog. Social media buttons make it easy for customers to tweet out your work, while adding links to the company’s Twitter and YouTube accounts will help bolster their numbers and improve their ranking in search.

3. Focus on simple designs, not bells and whistles: The focus of a blog should be on the content, not on widgets or sidebars or flashy designs...

4. Do show effort in the design, though: A corporate blog is also a chance to show off a human element of the company and to be creative...

5. Have your blog on your own web domain: Most companies have their blogs at blog.companyurl.com...

6. Don’t hide your “about” information: Assume that your average reader has never heard about your company. If you have that in mind, you want to be sure they can quickly find out more about you. Either have a paragraph at the top or on the side describing the company, or make the “About” page very prominent.

For the full article click here

Good luck with your blogging. It's lots of fun and lots of work.

And for those of you looking for a fun vacation here is my plug following top #6 above:

Has AANR Become Outdated? Commentary by the AANR President

There are two major nudist organizations in the US. AANR which is the American Association for Nude Recreation and TNS, The Naturist Society.

I am on the AANR West board of directors http://aanrwest.org IMO, AANR in the last 10 years has done more for mainstreaming nude recreation than ever before, and more than any other organization. They have earned the expression the credible voice of nude recreation.

The President of AANR just wrote an article for Pasco Naturally newspaper. Here it is reprinted from AANR's blog:

"For the second time in 15 months, the AANR Board of Trustees voted to suspend the charter of a major club in Florida. The particulars were different, but both centered on the board’s feelings that the marketing practices of the clubs were contrary to our principles and standards related to sexual exploitation of the human body. In 2008, the issue was Caliente which invited swinger groups to sponsor “theme nights” at the resort and planned to sponsor a booth at “Swingfest.” This year it was Paradise Lakes which scheduled a “Miss G String” contest with non-nudist models and planned to air the event on the Playboy Channel under the theme “69 sexy things to do before you die.”

The AANR ruling documents provide that “A charter may be temporarily suspended by the President if charges are filed by the pertinent regional division or the suspension is approved by the board of trustees; such suspension to be effective until the next in-person meeting of the board of trustees.” Suspension is not a finding of guilt. It gives the association time to complete further investigation and gives club management time to develop an appeal before the charter is revoked. In both cases, club management decided to withdraw from AANR before the process could be completed.

Management of both clubs told me that economics were the reason for their decisions. They claim that traditional nudists do not spend the dollars on room rentals, meals and drinks that are necessary for the resort to be profitable. They need to reach another audience with the propensity to spend more money. I understand the problem. AANR, itself, has experienced a drop in membership as have nearly all membership organizations. As we manage our organizations, we need to adapt and do things differently in order to survive. However, we also need to step back and remember what we stand for.

In the past several years, AANR has been very successful in changing public perception about nude recreation. Major media outlets have featured nude recreation as a legitimate recreational choice. AANR has also been very successful in changing the viewpoint of elected officials and government agencies. We have differentiated ourselves from the adult business industry. We are being recognized as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation. The affiliation with AANR has enabled many clubs to get building permits, liquor licenses, and sometimes to be allowed to exist. That public trust cannot be jeopardized.

This past summer, AANR sponsored The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip. Club owners and beach organizers reported that many people participated who had never before been nude in mixed company. The press reports were the greatest we have ever seen for an event. Clubs signed up new members. The event portrayed wholesome family nude recreation. No one confused it with a strip show or a swinger convention. The event told me that, with focused marketing, our resorts and AANR can grow in membership without a sexual tone.

One of the resort owners told me that “the only thing acceptable to AANR is sitting on a log watching a campfire.” I think that most AANR members would disagree with that assessment. Times have certainly changed from the 1950s when I became involved as a child. We have more tolerance. But, most of us see that there is a line which should not be crossed if we are to be true to our brand and to the promises we gave to public officials. The AANR plaque on the wall of a club or participating business needs to stand for something. Sometimes we need to take a stand to enforce that.

I am sorry to lose two clubs with wonderful facilities which have provided a destination resort for many AANR members and potential members. My wife and I have visited both many times. I also feel for the members who have invested thousands of dollars to buy a condominium in a resort that has changed its image. My personal hope is that the management of these resorts re-examine their marketing strategy and agree to uphold the principles and standards of AANR.

After years of fighting for our right to exist, it’s a bit strange to hear from a club owner that we may be “outdated.” We walk a tough line between ultra-conservatives who would outlaw our clubs and the adult industry which wants to piggy-back on our success in bringing public acceptance. We know our niche and what it takes to protect our brand. And, we draw the line."

For AANR's Blog click http://aanr.blog.com

One of the most important sentences in this post is "Management of both clubs told me that economics were the reason for their decisions. They claim that traditional nudists do not spend the dollars on room rentals, meals and drinks that are necessary for the resort to be profitable."

Nudists only have themselves to blame for losing both Paradise Lakes and Caliente resort to becoming swinger and sexual oriented clubs. Every time a nudist vacationed in the Caribbean or Mexico at a non nudist owned naked place, it took money away from the real American nudist clubs. I bet, less than 20% of our business at Terra Cotta Inn comes from AANR and TNS members. Further I have found most AANR & TNS members only want to stay at our resort on weekends and go to the non nudist owned places in the Caribbean and Mexico for a week.

Nudists, if you want nice places in the US, WAKE UP!!! You have to vacation at them. STOP going to naked places in Mexico and the Caribbean that laugh in your face charging you sometimes over $100 a night more to stay on the "nude" side. Stop going to these places where to eat nude you have a hamburger shack, and the prude side has all the nice meal options. Otherwise, some day you will wake up and say, where did all the nice nudist resorts in the USA go? It's happening already.

AANR does a great job in supporting nudist rights in the US. You should also support them by belonging to this fine organization.

Now if you want to take a fun vacation, give us a call at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time. You don't even have to be a nudist to vacation with us.

England may finally recognize that nudists are discriminated against

PR is fantastic in the marketing of nudist resorts, as is the internet like this blog. However, one of the worst ways for nudist resort marketing is word of mouth. Yes, when you vacation at a nudist resort all people talk about is what nudist resorts they have vacationed at however, outside the nudist resorts, no word of mouth.

So many of our guests tell us their best vacations ever are at our resort. And then when we ask "how many non nudists have you told about our place," 95% of our guests say none. They are too afraid to admit they are nudists.

I have always said being a nudist today is like being gay back in the 1960's. You have to be in the closet for your own safety. Now some places like Palm Springs, it is very accepted. I was even the campaign treasurer for one of our city council members and was elect the president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Yet, if I was to try to teach school, I wonder would I have a hard time getting a job admitting I was a nudist?

In England they are starting to realize the discrimination against nudists.

Here is the story:

"The Government Equalities Office, overseen by Labour’s deputy leader, ranks the prejudice faced by those who wish to go naked wherever possible as equivalent to that experienced by homosexuals, ethnic minorities and the elderly.

A recent review into discrimination includes a submission written by British Naturism, which was selected for display on the website of the equalities office alongside work by Stonewall, the gay rights group, Age Concern and the Runnymede Trust, which campaigns for racial equality.

“Naturists encounter prejudice in employment,” it reads.

“This is a particular problem for people in the caring professions and education...

There is a thriving industry devoted to naturism in Britain, including more than 100 naturist-friendly campsites and a selection of luxury cruises where clothing is optional...

British Naturism has 16,000 members but claims there could be 1.2m naturists in the country, with many choosing to cover up their hobby.

Now it is urging the Government and other authorities to make “affirmative statements” in favour of naturism.

Andrew Welch, commercial manager of British Naturism, said the type of discrimination suffered by naturists today was similar to that endured by gay people before the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967...

“The presumption of many in society that a person without clothes is always up to no good is archaic and discriminatory.”

For the full story click here

It would really be cool if England was the first major government to speak up positively about nudism. Here in Palm Springs, we are highly thought of by our local government because we have such a high occupancy rate, but that is just small town politics, not national politics.

I wish British Naturism good luck with their cause.

Sharon Stone has a topless photo on the cover of Paris Match Magazine

Paris Match Magazine is one of the most popular magazines in France. It is like a combination of Time and People magazines. Sharon Stone just appeared topless on the cover of that magazine.

Now obviously, this is not a nudist photo and it has nothing to do with nudism except to show the difference between the American attitudes towards bare breasts and the European attitudes.

We have been to Europe many times. They are very casual about nudity. To them it is really no big deal. Here in many parts of America, the sight of a woman's bare breasts is almost as bad as committing murder. Actually it is probably worse as American network TV show tons of violence, but no nudity. In Europe, they consider television violence to be bad and nudity is OK.

The Sharon Stone bare breasts story on all of the American websites, showed the cover of Paris Match with stars or black bars covering Sharon Stones breasts. The few European websites I saw covering this story, shows the actual Paris Match cover.

Even with this blog, I am not going to show the original cover as google does not allow blogs to be indexed if they show any nudity. And I want this blog to be indexed. So you will have to go to my other blog at http://terracottainn.blogspot.com to see the uncensored photo.

95% of all blogs are abandoned

Everybody is so busy these days. It is rush, rush, rush this, Hurry, Hurry, hurry, that. Now this is perfect for the nudist resort industry as nudist resorts are the perfect way for people to de-stress and to relax. Much it makes it hard to find time to do fun things like posting on blogs.

Trying to maintain a blog is difficult. Here it is 10pm and this is my first chance all day to write on this blog. And I have missed almost a whole week because we have been so busy at our resort.

Well the NY Times just came out with an article saying 95% of all blogs that are started are abandoned. On this blog, my no nudity blog, I have almost 350 posts.

I hope everyone has been enjoying what I post. I always try to find interesting things that you don't always find on other nudist blogs. And of course I write about our nudist resort The Terra Cotta Inn.

Here is the story:
" Blogs Falling in an Empty Forest

“HI, I’m Judy Nichols. Welcome to my rant.”

...Thus was born Rantings of a Crazed Soccer Mom, the blog of a stay-at-home mother and murder-mystery writer from Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Nichols, 52, put up her first post in late 2004, serving up a litany of gripes...

The post generated no comments.

Today, Mrs. Nichols speaks about her blog as if it were a diet or half-finished novel. “I’m going to get back to it,” she swears. Her last entry, in December of last year, was curt and none too profound...

Like Mrs. Nichols, many people start blogs with lofty aspirations...- Getting started is easy, since all it takes to maintain a blog is a little time and inspiration. So why do blogs have a higher failure rate than restaurants?

According to a 2008 survey by Technorati, which runs a search engine for blogs, only 7.4 million out of the 133 million blogs the company tracks had been updated in the past 120 days. That translates to 95 percent of blogs being essentially abandoned...

Judging from conversations with retired bloggers, many of the orphans were cast aside by people who had assumed that once they started blogging, the world would beat a path to their digital door.

“I was always hoping more people would read it, and it would get a lot of comments,” Mrs. Nichols said recently by telephone, sounding a little betrayed. “Every once in a while I would see this thing on TV about some mommy blogger making $4,000 a month, and thought, ‘I would like that.’ ”

Not all fallow blogs die from lack of reader interest. Some bloggers find themselves too busy — ...Others graduate to more immediate formats, like Twitter and Facebook. And a few — gasp — actually decide to reclaim some smidgen of personal privacy.

...“The Internet is different now,” she said over a cup of tea in Midtown. “I was too Web 1.0. You want to be anonymous, you want to write, like, long entries, and no one wants to read that stuff.”

Richard Jalichandra, chief executive of Technorati, said that at any given time there are 7 million to 10 million active blogs on the Internet, but “it’s probably between 50,000 and 100,000 blogs that are generating most of the page views.” He added, “There’s a joke within the blogging community that most blogs have an audience of one.”

...Many people who think blogging is a fast path to financial independence also find themselves discouraged. Matt Goodman, an advertising executive in Atlanta, had no trouble attracting an audience to his self-explanatory site, Things My Dog Ate, which included tales of his foxhound, Watson, eating remote controls, a wig and a $400 pair of Prada shoes.

... “I think I made about $20” from readers clicking on the ads. He last updated the site in November.

Mr. Jalichandra of Technorati — a blogger himself — also points out that some retired bloggers have merely found new platforms. “Some of that activity has gone to Facebook and MySpace, and obviously Twitter is a new phenomenon,” he said..."

Luckily I have had many guests tell me they enjoy my blog and I have had many people tell me how much money they have saved flying to our resort because I post airfare sales.

It is hard keeping up a blog. But, I intend to do so for many more years.

Should nude resorts be clothing optional or nudity mandatory

I thought this was interesting. A nudist resort blog from Canada that says clothing optional policies do not work.

I would never say that their policy of mandatory nudity doesn't work, yet obviously they feel so threatened by successful clothing optional resorts like ours that they have to devote a whole podcast to saying why they feel clothing optional doesn't work.

Now what exactly is a clothing optional resort? Every single nudist place is independently owned and operates in a manner that they think is best for their guests or club members. All I can say is how do we operate our place. There is no 1 definition of clothing optional.

Years ago, there was a research survey for the purpose of advertising to couples to vacation at nudist resorts. Men didn't care whether a place was nudity mandatory or clothing optional. Women however by a large majority said they would go only to clothing optional resorts because they would feel more comfortable at one. Thus, lots of nude places started calling themselves clothing optional to successfully appeal to first timers. And it WORKS!

We operate our resort based on common sense. People come here to go nude sunbathing. Because we have one the highest repeat guest rate of ALL hotels in the US at just over 75%, our repeat guests set the tone for nude sunbathing.

My wife and I are the owners. We work in the nude as we set the tone for nudity. On our blogs there are nude pictures of us showing we are comfortable with nudity. However at many nudity mandatory resorts, management works dressed. Strange!

Not all people especially women want to eat in the nude. Many women feel comfortable lounging nude poolside, but like to wear a cover up when they walk. That is OK. In the winter, in the evenings it gets chilly, so guests cover up. Common sense prevails.

When people call, we screen them. We tell people that our guests come here to topless or nude sunbathe, not to sit around in bathing suits. If they want to sit around in a swim suit, then go to a Marriott. Thus we never get people not at least topless sunbathing.

Our clothing optional philosophy works. We are extremely popular and are the only nudist resort that caters to couples on vacation in the western US. I know if we were nudity mandatory like other places, we would have much lower occupancy rates like them.

Now I don't care what Bare Oaks naturist parks clothing policy is. It is their right to make whatever policy they want.

This reminds me of the arguments that some naturists give that nudists aren't as "pure" as naturists. Who cares. That's why I like it that AANR came up with the term nude recreation to get rid of the silliness in the terminology.

Finally, on nudist forums, I always see lots of men insisting on nudity manditory policies, but I don't remember and younger women starting out in nude recreeation ever insist on manditory nudity.

That blog should not go saying Clothing optional does not work as some of the most successful nudist resorts in the world are clothing optional.
This is from their blog:

"Why Clothing-Optional Does Not Work
Episode VIII

We discuss the many reasons why clothing-optional policies do not work in naturist clubs. Naturism wasn't always so tolerant. In the beginning of the 20th century when naturism started, wearing clothes in a naturist club was not an option. The clothing-optional policy, a well-meaning attempt to be more inclusive and to make it easier for new people, has actually back-fired..."

Westjet has a major airfare sale to Palm Springs - Buy tickets by Midnight Wednesday June 3rd

I just learned Westjet has a blog. I will give you the link to the blog later in this post.

We love Westjet, since they started flying to Palm Springs, our Canadian business has sky rocked. We now book more room nights with Canadians than we do with guests from Southern California.

But that is pretty easy as we are the only nudist resort in the Western US that caters to couples on vacation. We are the only place that is busy 7 days a week instead of just weekends like most everyone else. Since Canadians love spending 1 to 2 weeks at our resort in Palm Springs on their vacations, they don't want to go nudist resorts where not many people around from Sunday to Friday nights.

Nudism is very social especially at our nudist resort. People love to meet, talk, go out to dinner together, etc. So you have to be a vacation resort to get vacationers to want to come back. And that is exactly what we do best as we have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the travel industry at just over a 75% repeat guest rate.

Here is the sale information from Westjet's blog:

"WestJet has the USA on sale - travel until Oct 31

We have found we have a lot of guests fly to Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and Las Vegas besides Palm Springs especially guests who are talking long 2 week to 1 month vacations. They drive around the Southwest and spend 1-2 weeks at our resort besides going to other cities.

I commend Westjet for having a blog. We have had one now for years. It is nice when big corporations catch up with small businesses in using social media.

If you have always wanted to vacation at a clothing optional resort, now is your chance. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

AANR has a blog

Blogging is one of the best ways to let people know what is happening in the world of nude recreation and at specific resorts.

We have had this blog for 3 years. We have a round 1000 people per day look at this blog. We used to average around 3-4,000 people per day read the blog until google decided to censure blogspot blogs that had nudity.

AANR, the American Association for Nude Recreation which is the national organization for nudists that help protect our nudist resorts has now decided to start a blog. It is located here: http://blog.aanr.com/

I congratulate AANR for doing this. Blogs are a major investment of time. However, they are one of the best ways to teach people about what you are selling. And yes, AANR is selling something. They are selling the concept that nude recreation and nude sunbathing are fun experiences.

We are both personally and corporately members of AANR. I recommend everyone join this fine organization.

Good job AANR.
