Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California Rocks

Nudists all know that we are the nude vacation destination of choice out west. We have couples from all over the US, Canada, England, Australia, Mexico and lots of other countries stay here. Which is why Terra Cotta Inn is Unique. Year round we are popular 7 days a week instead of just weekends like typical nudist resorts.

And of course first timers love our place as we're the most mainstream nude sunbathing resort in the US and as our local newspaper the Desert Sun says, we're perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

We have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the travel industry at over 80%. Lodging Magazine says if a vacation resort gets a 15% repeat guest rate, they are doing really well. Sandals Resorts brags that they have almost a 35% repeat guest rate. So to be an 80% repeat rate, it is really cool.

And what is so nice about Terra Cotta Inn is because we are a vacation resort instead of just another weekend getaway like everyone else, we have different people here all the time. So it doesn't get cliquish here like it would at places that cater mainly to locals.

Of course local Southern Californians also LOVE Terra Cotta Inn which is one of the many reasons why we were just picked by the Los Angeles Times newspaper in their July Reader's Choice awards for 2011 as the MOST POPULAR of ALL small resorts of ALL Southern California. Many places say they are popular ever though they are pretty empty midweek. The Los Angeles Times knows better, which is why they were very proud to pick us. We actually got a letter from the President of the Los Angeles Times congratulating us on our major achievement.

And of course one of the many reasons we were selected is because we are such a fun place and because it is such a friendly atmosphere here. Snobs don't fit in. We recommend other places for them to go.

A tradition guests started maybe 15 years ago is painting rocks and then coming back and visiting them. Where are a few examples. Aren't they great.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, sunny, unique vacation experience. One that you will want to repeat over and over.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Last November, MSNBC picked us as the Best value nude sunbathing resort in the western US.

And in December, 2010 Palm Springs Life Magazine picked us as the BEST small resort in the whole Palm Springs area in their Best of the Best issue. It's pretty cool that a nudist resort is considered the best place to stay in town. We were picked not because we're exclusive and snobby, (we let other places win those categories). We were picked because we are so friendly and because the guests have such a good time here.

Give us a call at 800-786-6938 to make reservations or for information. We answer the phones from 8am-10pm PST.

Terra Cotta Inn Discounted rooms for the Palm Springs Film Festival

As readers all know, our resort The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa is one of the best value hotels in ALL of the Palm Springs area. Nude sunbathers are lucky as they get to stay at such a great priced hotel.

And in January, we have our annual room sale on Sunday - Thursdays of stay one night, the 2nd is half priced. So for instance, if you booked for a Monday and Tuesday your rate would be $223.50 or only $111.75/night including breakfast and afternoon snacks, early check in at 10am and late check out at 5pm.

Today the Los Angeles Times had a blog post about "special rates" for the Palm Springs Film Festival. All of the places they quoted were more expensive than our resort. One of the places has a "discount" rate of $295/night.

Not only are we more affordable, we are more luxurious than many of the recommended places. We have top of the line king sized beds, state of the art salt water system heated pool and jacuzzi, free wifi, pool side heaters, in room coffee, dvd players, and more.

It is so hard to convince the mainstream press that one of the BEST hotels and BEST VALUE hotels in Palm Springs also happens to be a clothing optional resort. Some of the press still think of nudist resorts as a nudist colony out in the woods. Well, we have nothing in common with the nudist colonies of olden days. We are better than most boutique hotels and resorts. We are also the most mainstream nudist resort in America and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Our local city magazine, Palm Springs Life Magazine knows all of the hotels in Palm Springs. They have been publishing for over 50 years. In their December 2009, Best of the Best issue, they selected 3 hotels as the TOP boutique hotels in town. We were one of the hotels that was selected (we were #2). It's too bad that the Los Angeles Times decided to exclude one of the best hotels in Palm Springs in their blog post just because we're clothing optional.

Sadly people will over pay staying at textile hotels where they would have had a much better time staying at our clothing optional resort. MSNBC in November had a TV segment called "5 reasons to bare it all on your next vacation." They told people clothing optional resorts were much better values than textile hotels and even named Terra Cotta Inn one of the 2 best deal nudist resorts in the US.

So this post is letting the media know that people can come to the Terra Cotta Inn go topless and nude sunbathing all day long and see some of the best movies at the Palm Springs film festival in the evening. And we are a lot better value than the places you are recommending.

The Los Angeles Times has a travel article about Palm Springs

The Los Angles Times newspaper just came out with an interesting article about Palm Springs. Here it is:

"A visit to 1959 Palm Springs
The year was a seminal one for the desert resort town; 50 years on, it's still a swingin' time.

Dwight Eisenhower, on holiday from the White House, whips a golf club beneath a blue October sky... Meanwhile, other rich and famous folk are partying at the Chi Chi Club or pulling up their Cadillac coupes (nice tailfins!) in front of the Riviera, that vast new mod hotel. All over the Coachella Valley, architects and builders are seducing tourists with butterfly roof lines, space-age appliances, minimalist graphics and backlit starbursts.

Yes, 1959 was a swinging year in Palm Springs. And it's not over yet.

Thanks to legions of preservationists, entrepreneurs, publishers and design-driven travelers, the cult of Desert Modernism gets bigger and bigger, drawing all sorts of retro pilgrims to Palm Springs, including me....

Picture a whole ultramod 'hood of soaring roofs, clerestory windows, carports instead of garages, peek-a-boo screens made of stacked concrete blocks, pebbles and palms in the yard, and living rooms just begging for somebody to slip a little Dean Martin on the hi-fi. New, these houses sold for $19,000...

"Nineteen-fifty-nine was a good year for architecture here," Jade Nelson, the 33-year-old manager of the Orbit In hotel, told me. His place went up in 1957, but "my father and grandfather went to the opening week of the Riviera in 1959. In a white 1960-model Cadillac Coupe de Ville with red leather interior."

The building, designed by Rudy Baumfeld of Victor Gruen Associates, was actually a nod across the Atlantic -- an homage to a tall, curvy, ultramod chapel that modernist pioneer Le Corbusier designed in Ronchamp, France, just a few years before.

Now it's a Bank of America. But it's also a reminder: Before the first management consultant claimed credit for coining the phrase, the builders here were thinking outside the architectural box.

So was architect Albert Frey. In addition to a number of startling private homes and a compound now known as the Movie Colony Hotel, Frey collaborated on the low-slung City Hall and Fire Station No. 1 in the mid-'50s. By 1959, he was working on the city's aerial tram project, which would be completed in 1963.

Later came Frey's enormous pointy-roofed Tramway gas station, near the northern entrance to town. And even though it's a 1965 structure, you should stop there, because it now houses the Palm Springs Visitor Center. Go in and buy a $5 map to 75 local modernist landmarks, including many designed by Frey, William F. Cody and E. Stewart Williams...

Not everybody wants to stay in a big hotel, and by 1959 Palm Springs was already full of tiny ones. In the Tennis Club district, a short stroll from downtown, you had the Town & Desert (built in 1947, designed by Herb Burns). The Village Manor (1957, Burns again) was its younger sidekick a few doors away....

The reborn Parker, Moruzzi writes, is proof "that Palm Springs truly is the face-lift capital of the desert."

Of course, plenty of '50s Palm Springs landmarks have been lost, including the Desert Air (a fly-in hotel) and the Chi Chi Club (closed in the '60s)....

But in a territory that's supposedly so mutable and history-averse, it's a great comfort to lie low in the shade of the rediscovered buildings that endure..."

It's great that so many people are fascinated my the mid-century modern homes and hotels. And nude sunbathers are lucky, they get to stay in an Albert Frey building.

Yes, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa was once the famous Monkey Tree hotel designed by Albert Frey in 1960. We were originally designed as a celebrity resort, so we have very large rooms (300-500 sq ft).

So far this year, the press loves Palm Springs modern properties. The Los Angeles Times, New York Times, CNN, Washington Post and more have praised all the preservation work.

So it's time you should try something new, something fun, and different. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time! And you get to stay in a historic hotel.

Beware of Hotel "Deals"

The Los Angeles Times just printed a hotel "deal" for a textile hotel in Palm Springs. Book now and get 40% off! Rates only $161/night, regularly $269. At that hotel, I don't think anyone has EVER paid $269/night. The true rate right now is the $161. This is not a deal.

When I was president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, I toured that hotel. Their rooms are nice like our rooms at The Terra Cotta Inn. And at $161 that should be the regular rate.

They make up a phony rack rate of $269 so they can offer phony discounts. This particular hotel also has a resort fee of $25 plus if you want to stay late for instance to 5 pm like our guests can, they charge and additional $75.

So let's compare someone checking coming in January on a Mon and Tues night. They want to check in early, but can't. They have to wait until 4pm. They pay $161/night. They have $25/night resort fees. They pay $30-35 for breakfast. They don't get free afternoon snacks like we serve. Then if they stay until 5pm they pay an extra $75 for a total phony discount of $367 or $183.50/night. And the Los Angeles Times is fooled and thinks this is a bargain?

In January, our resort The Terra Cotta inn clothing optional resort and spa has a real discount on Monday thru Thursday nights of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. Breakfast is complimentary as is afternoon snacks. No resort fees, You can check in as early as 10am and stay until 5 pm at no extra charge. Our guests would pay $223.50 and get to stay longer and have better amenities. Sadly though, the Los Angeles times does not print our real bargain.

Last week Chris Elliott, the MSNBC and National Geopgraphic Traveler magazine travel reporter was on TV and pointed out that nudist resorts are a bargain. Our resort was one of three nudist resorts in the US that he mentioned that were particularly good bargains.

Many nudists fall for these phony deals. In my next blog posts I will discuss this.

Now is the time to try something different and fun. Think clothing optional. Think Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, California. Give us a call at 800-786-6938.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Beware of phony hotel and travel deals

All the time I see hotel "sales" that once you look closer, really aren't sales at all. They are just trying to con people into thinking they are discounting their rooms.

I just saw a big textile hotel in the Palm Springs area advertise a 45% off room sale for the summer. Their rooms are advertised midweek at $149/night. This "sale" has been picked up on many travel sites like Los Angeles Times as a "real" deal for budget travelers.

Now when you read the fine print, you'd also see that you'd have to pay a $25 resort fee and parking at this resort.

For the room rate to be 45% off, that means the current rate would be $270/night. I know this hotel NEVER sells for that amount. I checked travelocity and expedia. How much is a room currently at that hotel? $149/night plus $25 resort fee plus parking. Big deal, where's the discount.

People have to watch out for these phony "deals." Hotels all over the world are creating phony come ons so they can submit them to the gullible media as room sales. Let the buyer beware.

Now we have never ever had phony rates in which to offer phony discounts at our hotel. That is why we are considered one of the best value hotels of ALL hotels in Palm Springs. This is also why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs.

In the summer, in July and August, we have a true sale on Monday thru Thursday of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. We have had these special rates for the last 14years every July and August which is why we will be full in the summer. We have NO resort fees and no day fees and no parking fees. Also we include complimentary breakfast and afternoon stacks. We also allow early check in (10am) and late check out (5pm).

This year should be the year that you de-stress and try a fun new kind of vacation experience. A clothes free vacation. Stay at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa to see why repeat guests from around the world fly to our nudist resort. AOL.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world last summer.
