Sorobon Nudist resort in Bonaire will no long be nudist

The world wide recession has effected nudist resorts as well as textile hotels. Sorobon is the latest nudist resort that is converting over to being a textile hotel.
I've always heard good things about how it was run, so we are sad to hear it will no longer be nudist. It was one of the few nudist resorts in the Caribbean that did not gouge nudists by being ridiculously overpriced. We always recommended it.

From their site:

"Sorobon Beach Resort has always been a naturist resort. As of December 15th 2010 this will no longer be the case. We will open our doors to the general public and nudism will no longer be allowed.

I think part of the reason they are going textile is I have found American and Canadian nudists are vacationing more and more ONLY in our 2 countries. They are tired of sending their money to foreign countries where none of it benefits the US or Canada. Since the US and Canada are the world's largest trading partners, anything benefiting one country helps the other.

I know we have so many guests that booked a week with us in the summer or fall (it's tropical storm and hurricane season in the Caribbean, Florida, and Mexico in the summer and fall so nudists never go to those places anyway as why vacation in the rain). And then they booked a week in the Caribbean or Mexico in the spring. Now they are staying with us year round and skipping those overpriced places.

Prior to the recession, people would brag about how much they overpaid to vacation in Mexico and the Caribbean at non nudist owned naked resorts. Not any more. Good value is the new luxury.

And luckily for nudists, The Terra Cotta Inn has ALWAYS been considered one of the best value nudist resort vacation in the world. MSNBC in November picked us as one of the best values in the US. That's one of the many reasons we are the most popular nude sunbathing resort in the western US.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We're the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Give us a call at 800-786-6938 (toll free US and Canada) to make reservations or
for more information. We answer the phones from 8am-10pm PST.

52 Great Weekend Escapes in Southern California, Terra Cotta Inn is recommended

We have lots of write ups about our resort from the press. I have always said for nudism to grow in North America, nudist resorts have to be able to compete head to head with mainstream textile hotels. We do that very well and pretty much are the only place out west that is recommended along with other mainstream hotels by the press. Other naked places my get a writer at them and write about staying at a naked place, but they never are considered one of the best of all hotels to stay at in Southern California.

For instance, this December in the Best of the Best issue of Palm Springs Life Magazine, we were picked as one of the 3 best boutique hotels of ALL small resorts and hotels in the greater Palm Springs area. Nude sunbathers are very fortunate in Palm Springs that one of the best hotels in town cater to them.

Now we are not the fanciest, we just take care of you the best. For instance the #1 selected hotel by Palm Springs Life Magazine has rates from $299 - $520/night. They are part of a hotel chain.

We on the other hand are a great value with rates from $149 to $189/night. Plus, we include complimentary breakfast and wine and snacks. Early check in (10am) and late check out (5pm). And in December from now until December 25th, we do a stay 1 night, the 2nd night is half priced special, INCLUDING WEEKENDS!

The reason I bring up today's post is a few years ago we were selected as one of the 52 Great Weekend Escapes in Southern California in the book by the same name.

The book is published by Insiders' Guide which is the third largest travel guide publisher in the US right after Fodors and Frommers. What sets Insiders' Guide travel books apart is they do in depth reporting on where to go, where to stay, things to do, etc. They are highly respected by travelers. We are honored to be recommended by them.

The book had 4 pages written about us. We were the ONLY place or activity that was recommended in Palm Springs. Now that's pretty cool. Insiders' Guide obviously felt that staying at our nudist resort is the best activity and place to stay in Palm Springs.

Now I was reading the acknowledgements in the book. They acknowledge only 4 people by name. Mary Clare and I were 2 of the 4 people. They write "Southern California overflows with terrific people and companies dedicated to showing residents and visitors alike a great time...

Several folks deserve special mention... Tom and Mary Clare Mulhall at The Terra Cotta Inn were a joy to work with, they single handedly gave us all the "in" we needed in the Palm Springs adventure/tourism community."

We have never been acknowledged in the forward of a book before. I guess being nice to people all the time really does pay off LOL.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience.

Never been to a clothing optional resort before? No problem. We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time!

Is the reason more people aren't flying, because it isn't fun anymore?

Airfarewatchdog.com is a great site. It lists the best airfare sales anywhere on the net. They also list "unlisted" sales that airlines may post on their sites for certain routes instead of general airfare sales.

Today on Facebook, airfare watchdog wrote they feel one of the reasons people are not flying more is it is no longer fun to fly. Here is what they wrote:

"Airfarewatchdog: It's our contention that even though fares are pretty reasonable, the reason that airlines aren't getting more people in planes is because flying isn't fun anymore. People are voting with their feet, and putting them on their gas pedal...s."

I have seen this even in or business. We are having more Canadians, Pacific Northwest guests, and midwesterners drive here then ever before. Part of the reason they give is it is such a hassle to fly nowadays.

Now, we still have lots of guests fly here because they want to vacation with us and flying saves the most amount of time. But, I bet one of the reasons the textile chain hotels are suffering low occupancy rates is there never was anything special about staying at a textile hotel, and with the inconvenience of flying, why bother any more.

This is a lesson for nudist resorts. If you don't make your resort fun, people will stop going too! People want fun more than ever especially in this economy.

Now if you want to take a fun vacation, give us a call at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA.

We are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time. You don't even have to be a nudist to vacation with us.

Beware of phony hotel and travel deals

All the time I see hotel "sales" that once you look closer, really aren't sales at all. They are just trying to con people into thinking they are discounting their rooms.

I just saw a big textile hotel in the Palm Springs area advertise a 45% off room sale for the summer. Their rooms are advertised midweek at $149/night. This "sale" has been picked up on many travel sites like Los Angeles Times as a "real" deal for budget travelers.

Now when you read the fine print, you'd also see that you'd have to pay a $25 resort fee and parking at this resort.

For the room rate to be 45% off, that means the current rate would be $270/night. I know this hotel NEVER sells for that amount. I checked travelocity and expedia. How much is a room currently at that hotel? $149/night plus $25 resort fee plus parking. Big deal, where's the discount.

People have to watch out for these phony "deals." Hotels all over the world are creating phony come ons so they can submit them to the gullible media as room sales. Let the buyer beware.

Now we have never ever had phony rates in which to offer phony discounts at our hotel. That is why we are considered one of the best value hotels of ALL hotels in Palm Springs. This is also why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs.

In the summer, in July and August, we have a true sale on Monday thru Thursday of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. We have had these special rates for the last 14years every July and August which is why we will be full in the summer. We have NO resort fees and no day fees and no parking fees. Also we include complimentary breakfast and afternoon stacks. We also allow early check in (10am) and late check out (5pm).

This year should be the year that you de-stress and try a fun new kind of vacation experience. A clothes free vacation. Stay at our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa to see why repeat guests from around the world fly to our nudist resort. AOL.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world last summer.

Terra Cotta Inn is the best value resort in Palm Springs

I was just reading on cheaptickets.com where some hotels were bragging that they were a great value because they were less than $5000/week this summer for a couple. I laughed when I saw that. Those hotels have no idea what good value means!

To our guests $5000/week is extremely expensive. And our guests are very upscale. At our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa, we pride ourselves on not only being the best value nudist resort in North America (if not the world), but also in being the best value hotel of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.

This is one of the reasons why we have over a 75% repeat guest rate with couples from around the world that stay with us. We have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the whole travel industry.

We are also the ONLY nudist resort west of the Mississippi that caters to couples on vacation that go topless or nude sunbathing.

We have the 2nd highest occupancy rate of ALL hotels in Palm Springs. Only the Indian casino hotel has a higher occupancy rate.

For instance let's look at the summer at prices. In July and August, our rates for one of our regular deluxe rooms (which is nicer than many other places kitchen suites, as we were originally built as a celebrity resort by the famous architect Albert Frey). They are $859/couple per week. With room tax, the rooms are $958/week. We include complimentary breakfast and afternoon snacks everyday not just weekends like many hotels since they are empty midweek.

We use a local restaurant that has great food at reasonable rates to cater lunches. You could easily have lunch for only $10-15/couple/day. So that is another about
$100/week for lunch or now $1059. With all the great airfare sales, you should be able to fly here in the US for less than $300/person. We will use an example of
$500/couple for airfare. Now you are at $1559/week.

For dinners, the National Restaurant Association says the average bill with tip and one drink is $50/couple. So that is an additional $350/week. Now you are at
$1909/couple/week.

That is less than $1000/person/week. There are NO OTHER resorts in the US that deliver that kind of value.

This is what else we give our guests. We have invested in a state of the art salt water pool and jacuzzi. Once you have been in a salt water pool, you will never want to be in a chlorine pool again. We have free wifi. We have free airport pick up and drop off. We have top of the line Sealy beds. Us and the Ritz Carlton are the ONLY 2 hotels in Palm Springs that have invested in a state of the art poolside cooling system (and the Ritz Carlton is closed right now for upgrades).

Our breakfast is fantastic as it is served buffet style and is very high quality. For instance all of the fruit we serve is restaurant grade fruit, not from the grocery store.

We have a free DVD/VCR library. All rooms have DVD/VCR players. All rooms have refrigerators and microwaves. Plus we have rooms with fully functioning kitchens so if you want to cook your own meals, you can save even more money. We serve complimentary Godiva brand coffee in the rooms and a complimentary Starbucks blend in the lobby.

Our regular rooms are 300 sq ft and our kitchenette rooms are 500 sq ft. So you are very comfortable in our rooms as they are larger than most in this price range.

Finally, we are considered the most mainstream nudist resort in American and are perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

If you are looking for your most romantic, fun vacation ever, give us a call at
800-786-6938.

Phony Discounts are the rage in the hotel industry

Our local newspaper, The Desert Sun recently carried an article about hotel discounts that local resorts and hotels are offering. We have always wanted to get the extra free publicity by listing discounts, but we have found that it is difficult because we are considered one of the best value resorts in all Palm Springs and have never overcharged our guests. Thus, we can't discount back to normal rates.

For instance, the Desert Sun article about one resort wrote about how that resort felt so bad for their customers in these trying economic times that they were discounting their massages by 30%. They got about 5 column inches in the Desert Sun. However, their regular rate for a 50 minute Swedish massage was back breaking $125. Even with their so called sale of 30% off, it brings their massage rates to $84/50 minutes. We have always offered a full hour massage to our guests for just $80/hour.
And according to examiner.com we are one of the top ranked spas in Palm Springs for massage. So basically they gave free pr because they used to price gouge and now have reasonable rates.

We can't discount our rates because they have always been extremely fair. That is why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs.

One hotel listed their rates at $549/night to a "discount" of $199/night. The funny thing is I bet year round that place sells their rooms for $199/night or less. I bet no one has ever paid $549, yet they try to pretend they are a great bargain as they are over 50% off rack rates.

So be aware of phony discounts and sales and scams in the hotel industry this year as everyone is looking for bargains and deals.

Our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa has always been the best value nudist resort not just in Palm Springs, but the whole US, and we intend to stay that way.

So if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, we are the perfect resort. We are considered the most mainstream clothing optional resort in the US and are perfect for couples trying nude sunbathing for the first time.

European Style sunathing pool at Miami Hotel

Topless sunbathing is starting to be considered trendy and sexy at some regular hotels. The Fountainebleau hotel which is a regular textile hotel just underwent a big $500 million upgrade in Miami Florida. They wisely took out the family water park there and installed a European style sunbathing pool for topless sunbathing.

I guess they realized just like we have, that families and kids are nice, but they don't take long vacations. Couples take much longer vacations, that is why we cater to them. And vacationers don't enjoy being at topless or nude sunbathing pools with noisy kids hanging around.

Here is the story:

"Bringing sexy back, with $1B: Miami hotel reborn

The renovated Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, FL ...It takes a lot to impress here, a place where magazine models shop and $100,000 cars creep by without a batted eye.
But there are exceptions, and in the 1950s and 60s the only one that mattered was the Fontainebleau hotel. Blending five-star luxury with chic, progressive style, it was where Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack stayed and played, where James Bond beat Goldfinger in a game of gin rummy. A sleek, curvy layer cake of a place bending into Atlantic beach.

But that was decades ago—centuries, really, in the lifetime of a high-class resort—and the grand old dame had been surpassed by newer and hipper sites.

Not anymore. After finding a new owner willing to pump in $1 billion.

..."It's not a planned, themed, Orlando or Vegas-type resort," Karawan said. "(Lapidus') feeling was, it's more about the people, all about social interaction. This is about you being the star."

...Gone is the former 7,000-square-foot children's water park, "Cookie's World." The new Fontainebleau features a freeform main pool and a separate "European" bath, where topless sunbathing will be allowed...

For the full story CLICK HERE

We stayed at the Fontainebleau back in the 1980's. It was a classy hotel back then. My feelings are they will do a great job of keeping their European style sunbathing pool classy and hopefully make more people realize that topless sunbathing is a fun thing to do on vacation.

I noticed that their spokesperson said "it's more about the people, all about social interaction." That is exactly what good nudist resorts are about. Topless and nude sunbathing is a positive experience. You want to share that experience with others. Guests at good nudist resorts have lots of fun and laughter as people have such a great time.

If you have ever wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. This July, tripadvisor.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world.

Topless sunbathing in Las Vegas

We are in Las Vegas this week for a short vacation. A number of the hotels allow topless sunbathing which is also called European sunbathing in Las Vegas.. We have been to Caesar's and didn't like it - they were overwhelmed with single men

Mandalay Bay was much better, although it still had a lot of single men.

Last night, we went to the Bob Dylan concert at the Hard Rock Hotel. What I was so surprised to see was young women playing at the slot machines in bikinis in the casino. And not just regular old sting bikini bikinis, but many of them wearing thong bikinis.

We went to the pool which was packed. I would bet 25% of the young women in their early 20's had on thong bikinis.

There is a major market that nudism has not been able to market too, younger women.

At my hotel, The Terra Cotta Inn, we have guests from their 20's to 70's. However there is a large market of young people who appear comfortable enough to be in thong bikinis playing at slot machines that other nudist venues seem to be missing.

If only nudism had more marketing muscle.

And if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, give me us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com
