Not all nudist resorts are just weekend getaways
We had a couple come by for a tour today. They are in town through Sunday and had already booked at our resort on Thurs, Fri, and Sat. I asked them where they were staying and they are at a big hotel in Palm Desert, a town about 20 miles away.
I said "well you can see we are over half full today, why didn't you book here especially since we have our summertime special of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced."
I was told they stayed at another place midweek in Palm Springs a couple of years ago, were the only ones there, and had a boring time so they assumed all nudist resorts in Palm Springs were empty midweek and only booked us for the weekend.
Then I saw this post on a nudist forum:
" _______ Resort all to ourselves...what a strange feeling!
Wow...what a strange experience! We usually come to __________ for the weekend, but with our trip to Mexico, and much desired time with our lovely granddaughter this past weekend, we didn`t leave for ______ until she went home, then arrived here ... on Sunday evening a couple of hours before dark. Not a soul in sight after we spoke with _____, the owners. From 6 to about 10, it was just us enjoying the solitude, the pool, the hot tub...
This morning, saw no one at all until about 10 when a guy drove out from town to spend the day at the pool, and the resort`s handyman.
Now, it`s 5:30 in the afternoon on Monday, and again my sweet wife and I have the resort to ourselves. I have enough steak for 8 or so, ...looks like leftovers tomorrow!
It`s been a lot of fun, but really strange."
I have always said all nudist resorts have a responsibility to other resorts in the way they treat guests especially first timers because if a first timer has a bad time at our resort, odds are they will never try ANY place again.
And for instance as in the above 2 examples, if you go to a nude place and no one is around from Sunday until Friday, you assume ALL nudist reaorts are like that which isn't true.
For instance, we are the ONLY nudist resort that is popular 7 days a week in Palm Springs. We are NOT just a weekend getaway. If you are here midweek, you will meet lots of really nice people and we can even sell out midweek. On our site at the bottom of our home page, we print our upcoming availability. We are the only nudist resort that does so in Palm Springs.
When we first opened 14 years ago, we told potential guests on the phone that when they booked that maybe only 2 or 3 couples would be here, but that all other nudist resorts were slow midweek too. We lost business short term that way as not all nudist resorts would admit that they were only weekend getaways.
However, long term, guests love our frankness and honesty. We now have the reputation that if you want a fun nudist vacation in Palm Springs and you are social and love talking with other nudists, we are the place to go to 7 days a week not just weekends. Of course if someone calls and wants a place all to themselves, we always recommend the other nudist resorts here in town.
Now if you want a great clothes free vacation, give us a call at 800-786-6938.
Just yesterday, the big news site in Australia, news.au.com picked us as one of the 10 best nudist resorts in the world.

San Onofre nude beach will be closed if naturists don't win court battle
I have had a few people say to me that they bet I am happy that San Onofre nude beach down by San Diego County may be closed by the state. They said "more business for me."
That is so untrue. Only about 15% of our business comes from Southern California as we're the ONLY nudist resort west of the Mississippi that caters to couples on vacation. Southern Californians normally just want to book us only on Saturday nights like typical nudist resorts, where guests from around the world like to book us 7 days a week. That's why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.
We have had lots of guests who have booked us Sunday thru Thursday nights and then go to San Onofre for the weekends when it has nude sunbathers.
Lots of people like nude beaches, so I am sad if it is not reopened to nudists.
Here is the story:
"Naturists lose court battle to keep O.C. beach nude
Group says it will likely appeal to California Supreme Court in case involving San Onofre
A group of nudists who want to keep San Onofre State Beach's Trail 6 a clothing-optional beach have lost their latest legal battle, after a panel of justices at the 4th District Court of Appeal ruled that a policy that addresses nudity at state beaches is invalid.
The ruling favored state officials who last spring decided to crack down on a more than 20-year tradition of nude sunbathing at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach.
Huntington Beach attorney Allen Baylis, who led the fight against the ban, said the Naturist Action Committee will likely appeal their case to the state's Supreme Court.
"It's time for the (Department of Parks and Recreation) to realize that one of the reasons San Onofre has so many visitors is that there's a very popular clothing-optional beach there," Baylis said. "The people who visit Trail 6 pay their admission fees and buy their annual passes, which contribute a significant amount of money to the department and the local economy."
...Officials said the naturists have to adhere to a code in state law called nudity prohibited, which states that "no person shall appear nude while in any unit except in authorized areas set aside for that purpose by the department."
...Stearns also said the new superintendant's decision to ban nudity at the beach came after an increase in complaints about the influx of people to the area in recent years, stating that the area is no longer remote.
Some in the naturist community disagree, however..."

I hope the California Supreme Court is more enlightened then the court of appeals.

Topless swimmers win right to use city pools topless in Sweden
Swedish government officials get it right concerning women's rights to swim topless at city swimming pools.
For years women have been able to legally topless sunbathe on many Swedish beaches. But, starting in the 80's a backlash started growing against bare breasts. I guess maybe it is the Americanization of treating breasts as a sexual object instead of what they are mammary glands.
Now I hear from people who say that breasts should be covered because they are too sexy. But, at the same time people say some women's legs are very sexy. Should they be covered too? What about cleavage? Should that be outlawed? What about beautiful faces?
Eva Longoria is considered very sexy. Yet as far as I know she has never appeared topless. It is her face that makes her sexy judging by all the hair and cosmetic products she pitches. She we make pretty women cover their hair and faces like Muslim women do because they are sexy?
Here's the story:
"Women in Malmö have been given the right to bathe topless in the swimming pools of Sweden's third largest city.
The city's sports and recreation committee voted on Wednesday against a motion entitled: "Women with two-piece swimsuits ought to wear a top piece".
The committee eventually settled on the wording that "everybody should wear bathing suits" at Malmö pools but there is no requirement for women to cover their breasts...
But eventually the committee overcame its misgivings and the final decision was unanimous...
“Everyone is required to have a swimsuit when visiting the city’s indoor pools and if it doesn’t cover the upper body, that’s OK too.”...
"We don't define what bathing suits men should wear so it doesn't make much sense to do it for women. And besides, it's not unusual for men to have large breasts that resemble women's breasts," he said.
The Social Democrat politician feels the entire issue has been overblown.
“This is really not that big a problem,” he said...
Speaking to The Local at the time, Ragnhild Karlsson, 22, explained the womens' motives for swimming without bikini tops.
"It's a question of equality. I think it's a problem that women are sexualized in this way. If women are forced to wear a top, shouldn't men also have to?"
Outraged by what they regarded as discrimination, a group of women in southern Sweden made a show of solidarity by establishing the network, whose name translates as both "bare breasts" and "just breasts".

Yesterday was the 10th Annual take your dog to work day
Godiva is probably the most famous nudist dog in America. She has been on TV, in newspapers, magazines, etc. We got her at 8 weeks and she was been working here at the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa her whole life.
She is 14 now. She decided to retire about 6 months ago when she lost her hearing. She has slowed down a lot, but still enjoys going out seeing and "chatting" with the guests a few times a day.
Now that Godiva has retired she is even working on her memoir.
Here's the story:
"Today the Daily News tells us some news that is simultaneously stupendous and devastating. Apparently, tomorrow is "Take Your Dog to Work Day." THAT IS A THING? Did you people know this?... What kind of offices have we been working in until now that we didn't know this was a holiday, and that it's been celebrated in the United States for ten years?
You see, that's why the news of Take Your Dog to Work Day is both happy and sad. People will be bringing puppies to the office! Yay! But some of us don't even have a single puppy to bring. Booo ...
Blue, white and dog collar workers: Owners get set for 10th annual Take Your Dog to Work Day."

Rush Limbaugh calls nudists nuts and Looney Tunes
I never listen to Rush Limbaugh. He has a habit of getting his "facts" wrong. Just like today, where he calls nudists nuts and Looney Tunes. The funny thing is I know a lot of nudists that listen to him and like him. That means he is calling a lot of his listeners Looney Tunes.
I would bet 40% of our guests at our nudistresort consider themselves conservatives. Nudists are all political persuasions just like they are all ages, shapes, etc.
I think everyone should go to this site and let Rush know how wrong he is about nudists. I already did.
Go to: http://mediamatters.org/limbaughwire/2009/06/24 And tell Rush Limbaugh just how wrong he is about nudists.
Here is what he said:
"... Rush switched gears, pointing to an entry on the New York Times' Green Inc. blog reporting: "Going without clothes on beaches and other vacation spots is commonly called naturism -- a description that implies helping the planet, as some practitioners claim to be doing." Rush said he has a problem looking at most people when they're clothed, but now we're being encourage to go nude. What about skin cancer? Rush said these people are nuts, and he guaranteed that the people we're talking about here are nothing to look at. He hasn't seen them, but he knows these people. He added: "I know the left. I know liberals. All right, would you want to see [Sen.] Barbara Mikulski [D-MD] nude on a beach? Would you want to see [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] nude? OK, do I make my point? OK?"
Later on he continues on his rant against nudists:
...LIMBAUGH: It's not called nudism anymore -- naturism. These people are nuts. They're actual Looney Tunes. Snerdley, I'm gonna knock it. I'm gonna knock it. These people -- I guarantee you - I guarantee -- I don't want to be stereotypical here, but I guarantee you, the people we're talking about here are nothing to look at. They're nothing to write home about. They're not -- you wouldn't put their pictures in a magazine. I guarantee you. Trust me on this.
No, I haven't seen them. Don't -- I just -- I know these people. I know the left. I know liberals. All right, would you want to see Barbara Mikulski nude on a beach? Would you want to see Nancy Pelosi nude? OK, do I make my point? OK."

US Chamber of Commerce encourages people to vacation in the US this year
I've been saying since last year that Americans and Canadians should only book at US and Canadian nudist resorts this year.
All the time I hear from people asking me "why aren't there more places like Terra Cotta Inn in the US." And then they proceed to tell me how they just spent like $5000-7500 in Mexico or the Caribbean on vacation.
We had one guest this spring stay with us for 3 weeks. They said this year they could afford 3 weeks at our resort for the price of 1 week in St. Martin.
Now our business has been pretty good this year. April was the busiest month in our 14 years of business. However, for instance, June has been slower than usual as it has been cloudy and cool in San Diego and Los Angeles. Many people who live in those cities don't know that it is sunny and warm just 100 miles away in sunny Palm Springs. As an example we only have 1 couple at our resort tonight from Southern California. We have more Canadians here than Californians. So we can always use more guests from out of state and out of country booking their vacations here.
American and Canadian nudists need to support our own. They need to join AANR and FCN to protect our nudist rights. They need to join nudist clubs and vacation only at US And Canadian nudist resorts. When nudists go to the Caribbean or Mexico, they are lining the pockets of non nudists who charge nudists more to go nude, than they charge textile guests. (Club O is an exception. It is very, expensive, but it is a naturist owned and managed resort).
I know more and more people are tired of being overcharged to go nude in the Caribbean and Mexico, but they need to completely stop going and support our own country and our own hard working nudists and nudist organizations.
I am surprised that more nudists have not said the same thing as I do. I know many nudist resorts in the US and Canada are hurting financially this year. They need the money much more than Jamaica or Mexico. Americans in the hospitality industry are being fired and yet people spend their vacation dollars not in their own country? It does not make sense unless you just don't care what happens to our country.
Now I see the President of the US Chamber of Commerce is finally saying people need to vacation in the US to help spur the economic recovery.
Here's the story:
"Travel and Tourism Can Help Spur Recovery
By Tom Donohue, President and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
June 23, 2009
Hundreds of cities and tens of thousands of small businesses depend on travel and tourism for their very survival, including the city I work in, Washington, D.C. In fact, travel and tourism is a $740 billion industry that employs 7.5 million people. It's been hard hit by the economic recession...
One thing we can do to stimulate the economy is to promote the vital travel and tourism industry. We can start by making America a more inviting place for international travelers to visit and conduct business. Passage of the Travel Promotion Act would be a huge step in the right direction...
In addition to attracting international visitors, we need to remove impediments that make it difficult for our own citizens to travel within our borders. Highway congestion, airport delays, and other inconveniences are increasingly causing many Americans to rethink travel plans. If we invest in a modernized infrastructure, we could create jobs during the recession as well as encourage more domestic travel when times are better.
Attracting visitors to our country is a lot like attracting capital--they go where they feel welcome, safe, and can get their money's worth. We want the United States to be the travel destination of the world, while making it easier for our citizens to get from point A to point B. Passage of the Travel Promotion Act would help achieve this at no cost to U.S. taxpayers."

In my previous post I mentioned how most government officials are boobs. Well this post proves it.
The geniuses that run the Michigan Liquor control commission has determined that the above label may be detrimental to your health and thus needs to be banned.
Now I don't know about you, but I have never heard of anyone getting a DUI for looking at a beer label. Or for that matter becoming an alcoholic.
Here's the story:
"Banned in Michigan: This nude beer label could be 'detrimental to your health'
You can buy it on draft but don't expect to see Stevens Point Brewery's Point Nude Beach Summer Wheat beer in a bottle anytime soon in Michigan.
The label, which features a nude-beach scene with a cleverly placed beach towel and other summer-themed toys has been deemed "detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of the general public" by Michigan's Liquor Control Commission...
Aside form attracting lots of attention, it also earned a silver medal in the Beverage Testing Institute's 2008 World Beer Championships.
"Point Nude Beach Summer Wheat is a refreshing, thirst-quenching ale perfect for the beach or any other summer activity that calls for a cold beer. What you wear - or don't wear - when you enjoy Point Nude Beach Summer Wheat is up to you,"

Seattle allows nudity in summer solstice parade
In many parts of the US, government authorities are terrified of public nudity. I guess government officials think that if someone sees a bare boob, it will remind them that most elected officials are also boobs at heart.
In Seattle, there is a neighborhood called Fremont, where for the last 21 years they have been having a fun parade welcoming summer. It is clothing optional.
And if you lived in Seattle, you would welcome summer too as their weather is not always the nicest for nude recreation. For instance the #1 home state of our guests is the state of Washington. Canada would be number 2, and California number 3.
We have the out of state and out of country guests vacation with us because we are the only nudist resort in the Western US that caters to couples on vacation.
Here is the story:
"Fremont welcomes summer with nudity, parade
SEATTLE - Hundreds of people - some wearing bizarre costumes and some wearing their birthday suits - turned out for an annual tradition celebrating the beginning of summer in Seattle's Fremont District.
Once again, clothing was optional in the Fremont parade. People used their freedom of expression to go down the parade route in everything from home-made costumes, to body paint, to nothing at all...
The couple agreed that the parade is different from all others in the Seattle, because of the "the nudity, the light-heartedness of it ... the freedom of expression."
"It's fun because nobody hassles you, and you just get to have fun," said the groom. "That's what summer is all about - like being a little kid."
Others who showed up to watch the parade say they love how the city lets people express themselves and have fun.
"The people here are a fun group of people to be around. ... The energy is awesome," said Laura Tritz of West Seattle.
It was the 21st year for the parade, and the 38th year for the community fair that coincides with it."

Happy Naked Hiking Day Today
Today, Sunday is Naked Hiking Day. We have a lot of guests who go to Joshua Tree National Park which is just 1 hour north of Palm Springs to go nude hiking. We have some guests who specifically went there today to nude hike because of today being naked hiking day.
Our local newspaper wrote about naked hiking day. They asked some local people in our area if they would go hiking and they said no. Our local paper should have asked guests at our resort and they would have had a few people saying yes.
Here is the story:
"Prepare to cover your eyes today as nudist across the country plan to shed their clothes for a naked hike.
The annual tradition – Naked Hiking Day – coincides with the summer solstice, which happens this year to fall on Father’s Day.
Local hikers, however, say a nude hike in the desert heat today is unlikely...
...The Hiking Naked in Palm Springs group has attracted as many as 35 hikers and has been hiking around the Coachella Valley for more than six years, Gilbert said...
“We’re aware it happens on the summer solstice day,” McCorkle said. “With through-hikers — people who hike the trail all in one season — it’s kind of like an unofficial tradition for them.”
Local law enforcement agencies say skinny dipping poses more of a problem in the valley than naked hiking.
“It’s new to me,” said Pat Pilcher, a ranger at Joshua Tree National Park.
Valley nudists, Gilbert said, prefer the isolated hikes in Mecca Hills where Ladder Canyon is tucked away.
...Nude-hiking advocates say they aren’t out to startle people. Nudity, they say, enhances one’s appreciation of nature.
Many nude hikers go out of their way to avoid being seen choosing to hike during the week or early hours when it is likely they will have the trail alone.
Hiking boots, sunscreen and insect repellent are all recommended, even if hiking in the buff.
“The thing you have to worry about this time of year is the snakes are out,” said Ben Guitron, Indio Police Department spokesman."
For the full story click here
I normally find our guests will drive to a remote area of the Joshua Tree and hike for an hour or so in the nude to say that they have done it and then come back to our resort to relax and have fun.
There are no rules against nudity on Federal lands. My understanding from reading on this issue is a ranger will just ask people to dress if they are seen nude hiking and are not lewd. Of course any particular national park service ranger may not know the law and issue you a citation. This is one of the reasons why people hike in more remote areas.
And if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa is the most mainstream nudist resort in the US.

Big Brother is alive and well in Bozeman, Montana
Many nudists are scared to death to "belong' to nudist organizations as they are afraid it would be used against them. Now the city of Bozeman is proud to be the very first "Big Brother" city in the US to ask for passwords to y our social media sites on their hiring applications. So much for the Bill of Rights in certain parts of the west.
Here is the story:
"Job applicants with the city of Bozeman are finding that their private Internet discussions and pictures may not be so private after all.
The city is asking job seekers for the user names and passwords to Internet social networking or Web groups to which they belong. The decision is sparking an outcry from those who say the policy goes way too far...
"I liken it to them saying they want to look at your love letters and your family photos," said Amy Cannata, with the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana. "I think this policy certainly crosses the privacy line...
"I can tell you I would not provide it in an application I submit," Rupp said. "I have been told repeatedly it is not scored, and the application is not discarded if not provided."
Rep. Brady Wiseman, a Bozeman Democrat, led the state's fight against the Patriot Act when the Legislature issued a harsh critique of the federal act, arguing it trampled civil liberties and put the government into a position of snooping on citizens.
Wiseman said Bozeman now is going too far.
"Asking for passwords is over the line," Wiseman said. "I think that this notion opens up a whole new line of debate on privacy."
..."It's one thing, and I think totally reasonable, if someone has a public profile to go check it out," Cannata said.
But private groups and profile could reveal information employers could not legally base hiring decisions on, such as a person's religion, she added."...

Palm Springs is the perfect summer and fall vacation destination. We are the sunniest city in the US. It is very rare for Palm Springs to have any rain from May until December. When you compare this to other rainy summer and fall vacation destinations like Florida, Mexico, or the Caribbean it is no wonder why we are one of the most popular nudist resorts in North America.
And especially this year. American and Canadian nudists have decided to finally support nudism in our own countries. We have found nudists are tired of being over charged to stay at non nudist owned naked places in the Caribbean and Mexico. April was our busiest month in our entire 14 year history. I heard so much from repeat guests that they will not go to the Caribbean or Mexico until the recession is over. They will only vacation in the US and Canada. A lot of these guests are now booking 2 and 3 vacations in the year with us.

24% of British women have topless sunbathed while on vacation
Or maybe I should have wrote, 24% of British women have gone topless sunbathing while on holiday. Brits use the world holiday instead of vacation. Year round about 5% of our guests are English as we are the only naturist resort in the western US that catered to couples on vacation, so naturally if they all want to take their holidays with us as long as they know about us.
And of course that is the hardest thing. Being a smaller resort, I am in charge of marketing. But, I am also a working owner making sure our resort is well run and guets have a fun vacation here. Which they do as we have one of the highest repeat guest rates in the whole travel industry at just over 75% repeats. So lots of British guests thing the US is backwards and doesn't allow topless sunbathing which just isn't true.
New statistics released by the FCO yesterday show that 24 per cent of British women have sunbathed topless on holiday.
The FCO is England's Foreign Commonwealth Office. They put out a press release in the middle of June saying because topless sunbathing is obviously so popular with British women while they are on vacation, they sould not topless sunbathing in socially backwards countries where women are treated like 3rd class citizens like all of the middle eastern countries. Of course they didn't use the words socially backwards, they just said check the local laws like it is illegal to topless sunbathe in middle eastern countries. And actually pretty much all moslem countries as they are afraid of the sight of bare breasts.
What I find to be so interestiong is the FCO surveyed 30,000 adults so this was a major scientific survey. England is supposed to be nervous with nudity just like the US. This shows that women in English speaking countries are feeling much more comfortable with their bodies just like their European counterparts.
So, English women, I know why you vacation in middle eastern countries. They are deserts and you don't want rain on your vacation. That is why you don't go to Florida in the summer as it is the rainiest state in the US.
However, there is a desert city in the US called Palm Springs where we are located, where you can also go topless or nude sunbathing. Safely and legally! And we average less then 3 inches of rain a year. And we are quicker to get to than the middle east.
That's why we are the most popular vacation resort for nudists in the western US. We have one of the highest occupancy rates of ALL hotels in Palm Springs.
In the summertime, although we are a 17 room boutique luxury nudist resort, we bring in about 1% of the whole summer hotel revenue of ALL hotels in Palm Springs because we are so popular.
We are the most mainstream clothing optional resort in the US and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Vacationers warned No topless sunbathing in Dubai
Europeans love topless and nude sunbathing. All the beaches in Spain and France are topless. And many of the best beaches in Spain are nude.
It amazes me why Europeans would want to go topless sunbathing in nudity fearing and backwards country like the UAE where Dubai is located.
Countries like those should be boycotted by sunlovers until they join the 21st century.
Even here in America we have great nude beaches like Haulover beach in Miami to go to. Now I know that Miami is one of the rainiest cities in the US especially in the summer, and most smart nudists would never fly to Miami for a summer vacation, but then people can also come here to Palm Springs, CA to go topless or nude sunbathing. Palm Springs is the sunniest city in the US and it rarely rains at all from May until December.
At our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa,
we were picked by AOL.com as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world and the only one that caters to couples on vacation in the US.
Here is the story:
"Keep your tops on, Brit women warned
Dubai: British holidaymakers have been warned they face serious consequences if they are caught sunbathing topless or behaving indecently in the UAE.
... The new advice says "thousands of British tourists risk arrest by not checking local laws and customs before they bare all abroad".
New statistics released by the FCO yesterday show that 24 per cent of British women have sunbathed topless,... - on holiday and over half of Britons travelling abroad have kissed in a public place. {Tom's note: these are jailable offenses in Dubai.]
...the UAE, wearing skirts above the knee is unacceptable behaviour that could lead to fines or official warnings.
- Making rude gestures is considered an obscene act can be (and have been) prosecuted
- Topless sunbathing is strictly forbidden and can result in prosecution or deportation.
- Kissing in public is an offence in the country."

It is time that westerners spend their hard earned vacation money in modern societies. Why give oppressive regimes money where you can be jailed for a simple kiss in public. If these countries want to treat women as third class citizens, why should westerners support them?
We have lots of Brits vacation at our resort. I would estimate about 5% of our rooms year round are booked by Brits as we are the only nudist resort west of the Mississippi that caters to vacationers.

95% of all blogs are abandoned
Everybody is so busy these days. It is rush, rush, rush this, Hurry, Hurry, hurry, that. Now this is perfect for the nudist resort industry as nudist resorts are the perfect way for people to de-stress and to relax. Much it makes it hard to find time to do fun things like posting on blogs.
Trying to maintain a blog is difficult. Here it is 10pm and this is my first chance all day to write on this blog. And I have missed almost a whole week because we have been so busy at our resort.
Well the NY Times just came out with an article saying 95% of all blogs that are started are abandoned. On this blog, my no nudity blog, I have almost 350 posts.
I hope everyone has been enjoying what I post. I always try to find interesting things that you don't always find on other nudist blogs. And of course I write about our nudist resort The Terra Cotta Inn.
Here is the story:
" Blogs Falling in an Empty Forest
“HI, I’m Judy Nichols. Welcome to my rant.”
...Thus was born Rantings of a Crazed Soccer Mom, the blog of a stay-at-home mother and murder-mystery writer from Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Nichols, 52, put up her first post in late 2004, serving up a litany of gripes...
The post generated no comments.
Today, Mrs. Nichols speaks about her blog as if it were a diet or half-finished novel. “I’m going to get back to it,” she swears. Her last entry, in December of last year, was curt and none too profound...
Like Mrs. Nichols, many people start blogs with lofty aspirations...- Getting started is easy, since all it takes to maintain a blog is a little time and inspiration. So why do blogs have a higher failure rate than restaurants?
According to a 2008 survey by Technorati, which runs a search engine for blogs, only 7.4 million out of the 133 million blogs the company tracks had been updated in the past 120 days. That translates to 95 percent of blogs being essentially abandoned...
Judging from conversations with retired bloggers, many of the orphans were cast aside by people who had assumed that once they started blogging, the world would beat a path to their digital door.
“I was always hoping more people would read it, and it would get a lot of comments,” Mrs. Nichols said recently by telephone, sounding a little betrayed. “Every once in a while I would see this thing on TV about some mommy blogger making $4,000 a month, and thought, ‘I would like that.’ ”
Not all fallow blogs die from lack of reader interest. Some bloggers find themselves too busy — ...Others graduate to more immediate formats, like Twitter and Facebook. And a few — gasp — actually decide to reclaim some smidgen of personal privacy.
...“The Internet is different now,” she said over a cup of tea in Midtown. “I was too Web 1.0. You want to be anonymous, you want to write, like, long entries, and no one wants to read that stuff.”
Richard Jalichandra, chief executive of Technorati, said that at any given time there are 7 million to 10 million active blogs on the Internet, but “it’s probably between 50,000 and 100,000 blogs that are generating most of the page views.” He added, “There’s a joke within the blogging community that most blogs have an audience of one.”

Richard Jalichandra, chief executive of Technorati, said that at any given time there are 7 million to 10 million active blogs on the Internet, but “it’s probably between 50,000 and 100,000 blogs that are generating most of the page views.” He added, “There’s a joke within the blogging community that most blogs have an audience of one.”
...Many people who think blogging is a fast path to financial independence also find themselves discouraged. Matt Goodman, an advertising executive in Atlanta, had no trouble attracting an audience to his self-explanatory site, Things My Dog Ate, which included tales of his foxhound, Watson, eating remote controls, a wig and a $400 pair of Prada shoes.

Should nude resorts be clothing optional or nudity mandatory
I thought this was interesting. A nudist resort blog from Canada that says clothing optional policies do not work.
I would never say that their policy of mandatory nudity doesn't work, yet obviously they feel so threatened by successful clothing optional resorts like ours that they have to devote a whole podcast to saying why they feel clothing optional doesn't work.
Now what exactly is a clothing optional resort? Every single nudist place is independently owned and operates in a manner that they think is best for their guests or club members. All I can say is how do we operate our place. There is no 1 definition of clothing optional.
Years ago, there was a research survey for the purpose of advertising to couples to vacation at nudist resorts. Men didn't care whether a place was nudity mandatory or clothing optional. Women however by a large majority said they would go only to clothing optional resorts because they would feel more comfortable at one. Thus, lots of nude places started calling themselves clothing optional to successfully appeal to first timers. And it WORKS!
We operate our resort based on common sense. People come here to go nude sunbathing. Because we have one the highest repeat guest rate of ALL hotels in the US at just over 75%, our repeat guests set the tone for nude sunbathing.
My wife and I are the owners. We work in the nude as we set the tone for nudity. On our blogs there are nude pictures of us showing we are comfortable with nudity. However at many nudity mandatory resorts, management works dressed. Strange!
Not all people especially women want to eat in the nude. Many women feel comfortable lounging nude poolside, but like to wear a cover up when they walk. That is OK. In the winter, in the evenings it gets chilly, so guests cover up. Common sense prevails.
When people call, we screen them. We tell people that our guests come here to topless or nude sunbathe, not to sit around in bathing suits. If they want to sit around in a swim suit, then go to a Marriott. Thus we never get people not at least topless sunbathing.
Our clothing optional philosophy works. We are extremely popular and are the only nudist resort that caters to couples on vacation in the western US. I know if we were nudity mandatory like other places, we would have much lower occupancy rates like them.
Now I don't care what Bare Oaks naturist parks clothing policy is. It is their right to make whatever policy they want.
This reminds me of the arguments that some naturists give that nudists aren't as "pure" as naturists. Who cares. That's why I like it that AANR came up with the term nude recreation to get rid of the silliness in the terminology.
Finally, on nudist forums, I always see lots of men insisting on nudity manditory policies, but I don't remember and younger women starting out in nude recreeation ever insist on manditory nudity.
That blog should not go saying Clothing optional does not work as some of the most successful nudist resorts in the world are clothing optional.
This is from their blog:
"Why Clothing-Optional Does Not Work
Episode VIII
We discuss the many reasons why clothing-optional policies do not work in naturist clubs. Naturism wasn't always so tolerant. In the beginning of the 20th century when naturism started, wearing clothes in a naturist club was not an option. The clothing-optional policy, a well-meaning attempt to be more inclusive and to make it easier for new people, has actually back-fired..."

Ten Commandments of naturism?
I recently saw this posted at a nudist blog. click here to see the blog
"Ten Commandments of Naturism
Being a member of Skinbook can be quite entertaining sometimes, especially if you don’t take the discussions too seriously... it seems that the original poster is quite serious...
1 Only wear clothes and shoes for warmth and protection.
2 Do not alter any part of your body.
3 Respect the environment and cut down on activities (sic) that are detrimental to the destruction of the natural environment.
4 Respect your body. Do not smoke or drink alcohol to excess. Do not use medications made by big drug companies.
5 Do not eat meat.
6 Do not gamble.
7 Use your real name as a naturist.
8 Have a bit of common sense in knowing situations when being nude is appropriate and not.
9 Do not use naturism as a smokescreen for other forms of behaviour that is practiced by other social minorities such as homosexuality or swinging.
10 Have fun and stay positive."
What does everyone think.
My opinion is if these were truly the 10 commandments of nudism, then we would have an empty resort.
I always love people who think they know what is "best" for everyone else like the person who wrote these 10 commandments.
We opened the Terra Cotta Inn almost 15 years ago. When we opened, a so called naturist "leader" told us he was appalled that we used http://sunnyfun.com as our web address. He said how dare we say naturism was fun. We were sending out the wrong message. He said naturism had nothing to do with fun. To him it was a religion and he was as dogmatic as any wacky religious right preacher you have seen.
He spent the rest of his life being a negative influence towards our business telling everyone don't go to the Terra Cotta Inn because they believe nudism should be fun.
And of course now years later AANR and all other nudist resorts follow our lead telling everyone how much fun it is to enjoy nude recreation.
In my opinion, the whole point of nudism is to have fun enjoying the freedom of not wearing clothes. Of course you need to be respectful of others. And our guests agree since we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs.

Disney warns people about "evil" animal nudity
Godiva who is pictured here, used to be for nudity. If she had her way, she would skip her collar. When she was young, she used to bark at people who wore clothes. And this has been documented in the Arizona Republic newspaper by a reporter that was writing about her first experience nude sunbathing at our resort.
When she went to the pool wearing clothes, Godiva barked at her, when she decided to go to her room and come out nude and sunbathe like everyone else, Godiva was fine.
Now Disney is confusing poor Godiva. It is warning people about animal nudity as if it is a "bad" thing.
Disney has a new movie called Earth. It has been getting great reviews as it shows how mankind can ruin the world not only for us, but for ALL living creatures. I have not seen it, but have been told it is very educational.
The reason I bring this up, I just read that the movie reviews caution that the movie contains "brief animal frontal nudity". I kid you not!
Here is what I read:
"I thought you would enjoy reading the review of the movie Earth. Specifically, the last paragraph mentions 'brief frontal animal nudity.' Am I missing something?
"Animals are always nude, and we see them from every angle - side, back and yes, brace yourself, the front (gasp!). Not only is this nudity brief (thank goodness), but it's animal nudity..."
- missyfern1
Dear missyfern1:
Thanks for pointing this out. You sound like somebody who has a reasonable grasp of the animal world, perhaps somebody who used to live in a beautiful part of the country where animals freely roam...
Like you, I don't think of animals as nude.
But then again, this is a Disney movie, and in that world, animals frequently wear clothes, even hats.
My other beef with this warning is the word "frontal." I assume this is to warn us about the mammals and not, say, alligators.
But being that most mammals walk on all fours, the idea of animal frontal nudity assumes the viewing perspective of an auto mechanic checking out your car's catalytic converter..."
Now I checked on line and sure enough, newspaper reviews of this movie all contained the "brief frontal animal nudity" warning. For instance you can see that warning here in t he Washington post's movie review: click here to see movie review warning
Now you know little kids could care less about nude animals. That means Disney's lawyers made them add that disclaimer because they were afraid that American adults would get upset seeing a naked polar bear, or elephant, or even god forbid a naked whale.
Has America gone nuts where we are so afraid of a creature not wearing clothes that we have to warn people that they may see naked animals in movies? What's next little tops and bottoms for female dogs when they go to the beach. And for risque female french poodles, I guess they can go topless and just wear a thong. But wait, dogs have 10 nipples. That's a lot of nipples to have to cover up. So I don't know if we should let them go topless. After all some in the religious right might get upset.
Is Disney going to go back and warn people there there is nudity in Bambi and 101 Dalmatians?
Well Godiva is doing her part to make Disney happy. Here is a picture of her wearing her new work uniform so no one can accuse her of showing improper animal frontal nudity.
If this isn't the silliest story I have read in a long time, I don't know what is.
And if you aren't afraid of human nudity, try a fun vacation this year at our clothing optional resort, The Terra Cotta Inn located in sunny Palm Springs, CA. We are the sunniest city in the US and the perfect place for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.

Topless Coffee shop in Maine burned down - Arson
A topless coffee shop opened in Maine a few months ago. Reading about it online, it was very popular with both male and female patrons.
Sadly, many closed minded (or clothed minded) people were very unhappy with it.
Now the funny thing is if you go to the south of France or Spain, at their beaches, there are many beach side cafes and coffee houses. At many of them, the wait staff, both male and female worked topless. In those countries it is no big deal as the clientele was also mainly topless since most beaches in these countries are topless beaches.
Here in the US, we make a big deal about the sight of a bare breast. Not so in Europe. Obviously, European countries are way more mature in their handling of the nude human body.
Here's the story:
"Topless coffee shop burns down; official says it was arson
...Shop's proprietor Donald Crabtree says he will rebuild even in a mobile trailer
Crabtree said he did not have insurance for the Grand View
...In the end, a coffee shop in Vassalboro, Maine, that gained national attention for its topless waiters and waitresses simply proved too hot -- the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop burned to the ground early Wednesday morning.
..."I really liked it here," waitress Krista Macentyre said after learning the cause of the fire. "We weren't hurting anyone. I don't know why someone would do something like this."
...For Crabtree the coffee shop literally was home. He and his two daughters, their two boyfriends, and his two infant grandchildren lived in quarters attached to the Grand View. The fire forced them to relocate to a motel.
...Crabtree said his 10 female and three male employees are "in shock."
While some Vassalboro residents expressed displeasure with the 18-and-over establishment, Crabtree said he had received no threats.
In a February interview with CNN shortly after Grand View opened, Crabtree said the coffee shop was doing brisk business in the small town of 4,500. "It's just been crowds mobbing in," he said at the time.
"This place was made to put smiles on people's faces," he said Wednesday.
Waitress Macentyre added, "This was a good innocent business."
"Every worker was just trying to take care of themselves and make a living -- just trying to live like everybody else," she said."
For the full story: click here
That is the one thing about nude recreation. It makes people happy. Now it would have been even better if the patrons could also enjoy their coffee topless like in Europe.
It is pretty scary that some people are that threatened by the sight of bare breasts that they burn down someones business. And even more scary is the owner of the business along with family members lived next to the coffee shop. They even had a 4 month old baby. The owner and family could have died in the fire if a ambulance had not noticed the fire and woke the owner.
It's sad that in America we still have so much hatred of the human body.

Sunny Palm Springs, California has no June Gloom
Many people always lump Palm Springs in with Southern California when they think about weather. People think Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego all have the same weather.
They couldn't be more wrong.
For instance today they are predicting San Diego which is where Black's Beach nude beach is located to be mostly cloudy and a high of only 70F. Palm Springs is 100% sunny and predicted to have a high of 98F and low humidity. Perfect nude sunbathing weather.
The reason I bring this up is a couple who is checking in today called this morning wanting to cancel their reservation this week. They said they had been in San Diego over the weekend and were so disappointed because it had drizzled there and was cool. They couldn't go to the nude beach. Naturally, we were 100% sunny over the weekend.
When we told them we were 100% sunny and a high of 98F today they couldn't believe it as Palm Springs is only 2 1/2 hours away from San Diego. But, yet our weather is completely different than the rest of southern California as Palm Springs is the sunniest city in the US.
We average less then 3 inches of rain a year. The reason we are so sunny is we have a 10,800 foot mountain chain separating us from the Pacific ocean. So we don't have any of the ocean clouds or rain.
Above is a photo of the Palm Springs tram going up the side of the mountain.
There is an expression in Southern California called June gloom. In the month of June it is normally cloudy until late afternoon along the beaches in California.
Some come on out to sunny palm Springs and enjoy the warm sunshine! No June Gloom here!
Now is the perfect time to try topless or nude sunbathing at our resort. Last year both AOL.com and tripadvisor.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world.
We are the most mainstream nudist resort in America and perfect for couples trying topless or nude sunbathing for the first time.
We even have a special in June for first timers. Book Sunday through Thursday, stay 1night and get $25 off on the 2nd night's stay.

Saggy pants crackdown in Flint Michigan
Flint, Michigan which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the US is cracking now on crack. Not drugs, but butt cracks.
Here is photo from The Flint police department showing how you can be arrested in Flint Michigan for having butt crack.
Don't the police have enough to do to like for instance go after real criminals sellin real crack instead of enforcing dress codes? Doesn't their city council have better things to do to do?
Now I admit, since I am older, I think it is a pretty stupid way to dress having your pants half way down your rear. But, then the older generations have always thought many things young people do are dumb like long hair and sideburns in the 60's and 70's, rock music, weird colored hair, etc. The world has survived those "fashion" statements (and music) and it will survive saggy pants.
Flint officials worry about the economy and real crime. Get your heads out of the cracks.
